Sounds like they are in very early testing phases.  6 weeks is not near enough time to identify bugs, correct them, test and implement the fixes.  Then what of the features not yet turned on? 

Are we to assume that they will call their open beta as a release?  From the statements made by Adventurine up to now, that could be their game plan.

All we can really do is wait and see, but I think they are doing it wrong, the game could be subject to a lot of negative publicity if they release it in a less than ready state.  The genre has a long history of games that have done this and never really recovered.

And keep in mind this is what they "wanted" to show us.  They threw a bunch of nice comments, with a few skeptical ones in from "closed beta testers".  Lord knows what they didn't show in terms of "feedback from beta".

We'll see shortly.  I will be stunned if this game is good.  It will go against all conventional wisdom based on its weird development cycle, the size of the studio, etc, etc.   Though......I can still hope that it will be.

They are running out of nonsense so they just need to make it up.  Clearly zayne is making things up.

Especially with impending nda free beta stuff comming (see other thread) the skeptics/trolls/haters are stepping things up while they still can.

From my experience, in order to actually make a mark, you have to break free of "conventional wisdom." They wanted to be revolutionary. You can't do that by following the same old drill as everyone else. Basically, following conventional wisdom won't get you very far (unless you are incredibly lucky, like 1 in 10million). You have to break away from what is accepted, or you end up just like everybody else. (And recently, devs following the standard path have come up lacking).

There's just no confidence from their end.  The only thing reassuring from Adventurine's end was the "in-game" video, which was largely edited, and the second video where the connection feed was lost at the end. (don't know the cause, still didn't look good)

Best thing they could do, would be to open up beta to include far more than the current 50 testers they have.  If the game's truly ready for a 2008 release, it should easily be ready for half of the community.

How can i trust a game that only allows 50 people into beta? Hell games in alpha have more players then that. Now i did read what the beta players said and to tell you the truth how can i trust that? Not saying i wont give Darkfall a try just saying that so far they have yet to show me any concrete info about this game. Now why should i play a game that keeps people out of the loop? Now i am sure a lot of people want to see this game succed but right now i really am unsure about this game.Now it would be nice if they released some unedited game play.

Whatever the case may be this game right now is just drawing me away instead of in.

First, we have absolutely no clue as to the number of people in beta atm.

Second, many games put up an NDA and try to keep people out of the loop.

Third, we do have a vid of unedited gameplay, the ADW vid.

I didn't state that what I said was fact. Perhaps I should have made it clearer that it was my personal opinion.

I am basing my predictions on the comments from the Beta and my belief that there is a lot of work still to be done and I can't see it being ready in a few weeks time.

Well, that's a valid point. Nothing gets done during the Xmas Holiday, however, I'm giving them the full 365 days.

But I guess I agree, we can stop counting Xmas week.

IMO it's not about them releasing in 2008.  It's about them communicating with their fans and future customers.  If 2008 ends in silence I fear that Darkfall may not ever recover.

People said the same thing when they never started the Guild Beta, or when Closed Beta never started the first time.  But the fans say that Tasos never actually said when these would start, and saying "soon" and then never hearing anything about them again does not count as lying.

So I'm positive that the rabid fans will continue following Darkfall even if they miss the 2008 release.

Probably still be lots of fans if they miss a 2009 release. They'll just say the standard: I'd rather they get it right, than release it when it's not ready. That works for infinity.
