I think the Bible would be an excellent lore for an historical/real-time mmo

With the true epic battle of God and Satan, along with stories of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah,

Moses, king David, Samson, Solomon, John the Baptist and ofc Jesus

Gods army, the angels, Jesus and his diciples and all his followers  would ofc be the good side,

while the evil side could be represented by the Lucifer's army, the Romans, Sodom and Gomorrah, Pharisees and Sadducees, the scribes

Pontius Pilate could be somewhat indifferent.

Well I think it could work anyway, at least the story would be epic.

Well, this would cause all sorts of issues :P

For one the schism between Christians, Jews and Muslims.  All three are based off the Old Testament.  Then you have the issues within each of those faiths.  On the Christian side you have the Catholics, Protestants, Eastern Orthodox and all of the other different sects.  On the Jewish side there are a couple of different sects that I know of and the same with the Muslim side.  Do not think anything like this could ever come about on a mainstream basis.  Sure, there could be a "Left Behind" mmo or something on a small scale hosted by an individual church.  But, if you tried to go mainstream good grief.  Just imagine the lawsuits if you went with a Christian slant.  People of the Jewish faith would have a field day filing suits that hte game was anti-semetic etc.

Frankly, on the surface, it is not a bad idea.  However, if the maker of said MMO actually managed to make the game WITHOUT offending religious groups I would be in total awe.

The fact is, people love to be angry and love to take offense.  Religion gives folks leave to do just that, and since religion and politics are intertwined, the game would have to deal with that too. In short the makers  have to deal with several billion folks who simply don't get the following:

Remember, no one can make you "offended".  You choose to be offended.  That is why the term is, "To TAKE Offense."  There is NO "make" offended.:-)

If such a game were to come out, I would want to be a demon.

I reckon it's both, good/evil concept and guidelines. So there would be more to build an mmo on

Now,from the bible I read as a kid I remember the works of G. Dore as excellent artwork, take a look at these, wouldn't they be great:

Today we have the technology to make the characters almost look like this ingame

Just have the top 10-20 religions and make it a pvp game with territory wars.

Actually this word be an awesone mmo if done right.  Thinks about it, angels of god and minions of satan are actually ones who past on.  They could set it up to pick a known person or create your own of course.  Awesome, just think of the possibilities.

Ok, new thread within a thread.  Pick your character and why.  Mine:

Rick James with the long braids-beads and a crazy outfit.  His specials could be:  The Superfreak, Cold Blooded, The Mary Jane and of course The Bad Mamma Jamma.   Everytime I owned you, for instance, with the Superfreak, he would break down and dance around you singing the Superfreak and you would hear it in your headphones.

Awesome

Prolly be more accurate to base it on the ancient greek gods, since seems that the bible took some of the basics from there...

12 disciples = 12 gods

God = Zeus

Jesus = Hercules

Jesus n Herc did the same basic thing...battle against evils of their time. Both the son of a god sent to earth to save the sad mortals...blah blah.

Claiming the bible is the most epic of good verses evil simply means you never studied your ancient history much, nor learnt much about other religions.

I think we all know a Biblical MMORPG like WoW, where you hack and slay and collect gear, isn't going to happen.

 I"ve seen suggestions for a Crusades MMORPG, with Christians vs Muslims, but that's not going to happen either.

However, I'm sure you could make an interactive 3d Bible world. You can roam around the world, and talk to historical figures. You can go to Moses, and he'll tell you the ten commandments, you can go to Adam and Eve, and they'll tell you about being cast out from teh garden of Eden, you can see Christ crucified on teh cross, and stuff like that.

YOu could even make it a game with Quests, and each quest teaches you about the Bible.

You might think, wtf show Jesus crucified in the cross in a 3d world? But come one, Mel Gibson did it in a movie call the Passion of the Christ, so why not a video game?

Sry But I'm not going to search 7 pages to see if anyone's said this yet.

On-Topic:  I think  turning the Bible into an MMO would be a good idea say....50 years from now.   Maybe.

Off-Topic:  I think part of the hate is that if you believe in one religion you most likely believe all other religions are wrong.  I understand that in some cases but what makes your religion any better than someone else's?  Also,  in the US and other countries that emphasize individual rights,  I've always wondered why there's so much discrimination against homosexuals.  I'm asking this because I've seen a lot of people using Christianity as an excuse for it but that religion also seems to value acceptance and tolerance which just confuses me further.

Thanks for reading.

     Really its not a bad idea in theory but might be difficult to implement....... Lore wise though there is a ton of people involved and alot of history........People often confuse the bible with religion and often they are two different things...The bible is the greatest book ever written....The information inside is incredible and so are the stories......If the game was made without ties to any particular religion (ie catholicism, methodist, mormons, jehovahs witness, etc) then it could be done......

          If you have read throguh the bible then there is little doubt how God feels about homosexuality (has nothing ot do with religion).......People dont want to hear it but He states many many times how he hates it......HE created man and woman to be together and that is how it was meant to be..... What is often misunderstood is that people think Christians hate homosexuals but in reality they hate the act of homosexuality.......There is always forgiveness from God for people who have sinned whether it be homosexuality or some other sin........

Just a piece of ancient fiction that, when compared to similar works of the era, is wholly pedestrian and uninteresting.

Dio's chronicles of history... now that's some intersting shit.  Oh, and it like actually happened and stuff which automatically makes it more interesting and pertinent.

And to the nutjob above me I ask only this: How the hell can "God" hate hot girl on girl action?  There's no ****ing way.  No ****ing way.

Homosexuality Isn't a sin.  I may not like to see two guys doing the naked tango but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.  If it makes them happy they should go for it.  Also I'd like to see two people actually doing a tango naked and I don't mean sex.  That and it just seems wrong to discriminate against a whole group of people just because a main character in very thick fiction novel says to.  Also, how can you hate lesbians?  They give us the best porn!

Pinky! are you pondering what I'm pondering?

But I also firmly believe in Loving your neighbor as yourself. It just really pisses me off when people are so stereotypical and have no respect for one another. For God's sake! You defend Homosexuals but bash Christians in the same breath...

It just doesn't make sense to me. Earlier in the thread Christians were accused of playing the victim card...but this thread in a way proves that Christians are criticized just as much as homosexuals or muslims or jews or atheists. WHY is that? What is so hard about respecting eachother? We can disagree, but why does it ALWAYS have to turn into a bash of one group or another? Let's grow up a little guys and gals.

Um well in the Bible it says its a sin. Where do you think do you think the word Sodomy came from? Sodom maybe? and that city was destroyed. At least thats what I believe the word originated from.  Do I hate Gay people? no, but I dont' agree with their lifestyle. God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

I dont' think Homoxeuality is wrong because The Bible says so either,  sex is for reproduction and 2 gay people having sex cant reproduce they are doing it for pure pleasure.

in the OLD Testament...but I'll post what I did on the last page

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%201:26-32;&version=9;

Romans 1: 26-32

but that shouldn't leave the impression that Christians hate homosexuals. It also says in the Bible that we should love our neighbor just as much as we love ourself. I disagree with homosexuality, but I won't bash people because of their choice. God gave us free will...so if you want to be gay, that's your choice.
