Who cares if its real or not. The bigger question is why is this game still in development nearly 10 years after beginning? Any game that has been in development for that long is flawed and is destined for failure. Enjoy wasting 50 big ones on this.

Concepts can be thought up in a second...that doesnt take 2-3 years between the start of the game and when it CHANGED COMPANIES in 2003.

Im going to develop a game that is based around the zombie apocolypse that has full loot pvp, 6 classes, faction alignment (zombies vs nonzombies imo)....wow that took long.  now obviously the concepts go deeper than that but you get my point.  these guys did not sit in front of a white board for 2-3 years developing concepts.

Creating a new engine from scratch though...yea that takes some time i would assume

it has been in development for 5 years.....maybe 7 if you want to be a nit

Because the website asked them?  Aventurine didn't invite them....they simply accepted their request.

Any media that wants to do the same is welcome to do so...but i applaud Aventurine for focusing on their game and following the attitude that the game will speak for itself.  Much better than all hype and no result.

and also you notice the difference at windows...sometime is day and there are to seen trees and sometime they dark night ...same goes for the different flooring in the pictures..in no way there is parquett and something else in one office...,btw..anyone noticed these are totally diefferent guys then they was in Athens ADW  ? how come they changed appearence that quick ...

So you have pictures of their studio, what does that prove? they have been working on the game? I sure hope so, it's been 8 years, I'd hope they are working on something. I guess I'm just confused on what the point is besides giving the OP his daily trolling requirements.

I wouldn't worry about it. Nearly 200,000 ppl registered on the official forums, and once the game goes live, that number will explode with other ppl realizing it actually happened. Plus you know about it, nearly everyone at MMORPG does.

You don't need 6 million subscribers to be successful.

This is my opinion on what you are talking about.

A game like WoW, whose target audience is MUCH larger than DF needs marketing to reach all those people.  I dont think anyone disagrees that WoW is designed to have a "lower barrier of entry" in the sense that it is easy to pick up and learn, and also appeals to the masses.  It has a HUGE Target market.

Darkfall is a niche game.  If it ever cracks a million subs im going to be shocked and would actually bet money against it ever becomming that popular.  We are talking about eve-esque numbers here.  I dont remember what kind of marketing EVE had prelaunch, but maybe someone can remind me as it would make for interesting discussion since the development teams have a lot in common.

So right now, the target market for DF is probably aware of DF.  It would be a big waste of money and time to market it at this point in the game, just to maybe pull in some more people.  Those people will pick up the game after it releases because if it releases well...the reviews and media love it will get will serve that purpose.  And also they may focus more attention on marketing at that point once they are happy with a stable product that makes them money.

As far as leaving my house...laptops are fun and my job is not only a lot of fun in that im very mobile...but it allows me to hop on forums during slower times.

No problemo.  We will hopefully have the video up soon.  At first they said sometime this week, but the italian journalists made it seem like it may be sooner, even today in posts this morning.  So we'll see. 

Though I have a feeling it is going to be a gameplay video in the sense that it is fraps...and not an over the shoulder video like i would have hoped.  Still very good and very welcomed of course.

New engine from scratch is 3 to 5 years easy. It can take up the greater part of development I know that much.

Because come Jan 1, 2009. This game will have been in development for 8 years, thats pretty damn close to a decade if you ask me, but 8 years is still to hell of a long time to be stretching out an MMO project. Specially one that looks this bad.

For the record that office is not impressive. Its like a room with some "puters" in it, with a star wars poster and some DF shit tacked up everywhere. Yep cutting edge stuff.

Aside from that I don't think anyone would disagree the game is "real" as in it is somewhere on planet earth loaded onto a pc. What the majority of the so called "trolls" typically say is it's never coming out.
 

Listen they can have some basement flat in some building somewhere on the moon for all I care. They can work on this shit till doomsday as well. Until it hits a shelf, until I can hold this game in my hand. Until I can go to a website insert my credit card to download this game in it's entirity.

Aye thats right. Darkfall game of today is 5 year old and not a 7 old one as some claims. Game was more or less restarted mid 2003.

Even the developers of Darkfall of today call it a 5 year old game, not a 7 year old one.
