"My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle" - Firefly |
I'm tired as hell of wow... and all quest-grind/mob grind/faction grind/gear grind MMO's. To be honest right now I cant stand playing any MMO but EVE... and thats only because its a whole different thing.... I'm a long time MMO vet, going back to EQ1. I'm one of those who cries constantly about the loss of pre-cu SWG.... and waits so desperately on MMORPG.com for something to come along to give me back that old MMO feeling..... but gets disappointed time after time......
Just in case you didnt hear me the first time, I'm tired as hell of traditional MMO gameplay, especially WoW.. However: My two best friends just forced me to buy WOTLK so I can do group stuff with them... I gave in reluctantly and installed it.... I'm still tired of WoW and the new expansion doesn't change that a bit... I likely wont quest hardly at all... and will level solely off 5 man instances with my best friends.... yes its the same old content reskinned, not an amazing new MMO experience... NOW TO FINALLY GET TO MY POINT: There is no other MMO in existence with this level of polish.... It's incredible after spending the last year going from one MMO to the next, desperately hoping to love each and every one.... to see the contrast when I go back to WoW.... it just emphasizes the difference.... WoW's world is so well thought out and so well put together, the world (at least the currently populated part, the game IS after all getting old) feels ALIVE... and teeming with activity. I took a run accross the original world on my mount.... it's incredible to see what a vibrant seamless world Blizz created when so many others have failed. Yeah, you might hate the art style... you might hate the low polygon count.... and you might hate that leveling up is easy mode, especially due to solo questing... but you have to admit, Blizz earned all that crazy money they are making. Keep up the good work Blizz, I'm sure WoW still has a healthy life ahead of it. Grymm |

If everyone that played WoW switched to Warhammer, and the servers were populated, everyone would be much happier. |

Its not awful.... its just nothing new, not that polished, and quite frankly not as good as WoW... combat is less fun, the PvE is rediculously linear, and the PvE part of the game really encourages soloing. WoW does this too to a slightly lesser extent, but at least its got nice challenging five man dungeons for every level range.

I played WAR from beta until tonight when I cancelled three accounts (me and my 2 sons). I wanted it to succeed! I tried to stick with it... So many problems.. The worst, for me, is the horrible User Interface which either responds very slowly to ability activations or sometimes doesn't respond at all. I won't go into all the other problems I have with it. I've lost confidence. Not polished at all. WoW is a very polished game. I played it for years and like the OP, I am sick of it. Unlike the OP, I'm not going back. The UI is second to none and the combat flows so well when you use your abilities... It does deserve praise no doubt. On the other hand, if you don't care much for PVP or want a solid PVE experience, LOTRO is also a fantastic game. With the release of the Mines of Moria expansion it has taken a big step forward. Again, if you want PVP - look elsewhere. |

Shadowbane is a better game than WoW. The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else. |

I'm just gonna chime in here by saying that I too left WoW about 3 years ago and recently came back after trying a lot of other MMORPGs (AoC, CoX, EQ2, FFXI, GW, HGL, WAR). I left WoW because when I got to lvl 60 and PvP'd the game to death, I felt I exhausted it's content, but I am VERY pleased that I have come back because after playing it a short while I just realise how good it really is compared to all those others. Here's the Top 10 reasons why it's still king and those others aren't: 1. Open, seamless world where going from one zone to another doesn't, usually, require a loadscreen. 2. Fresh, new environments as you travel around the world with a variety of mobs. 3. Smooth animations with excellent sound, all-round. 4. Loot! You get a little reward virtually everytime you kill something! 5. The items in the inventory actually have satisfying clunks, tings and rustles as you move them! 6. A great assortment of skills given when you level up which give a subtle but interesting twist to the gameplay as you progress. 7. When choosing 3 different races, you can level up in entirely different areas doing entirely different quests! 8. It has crafting which is fun to do. 9. The most satisfying feeling of progression ever! 10. And the most important one of all: IT WORKS! (Where are the bugs?!) You'll always get the odd 15-year old complaining about how WotLK "sucks", or the jaded gamer (who's racked up years of gametime) saying that MMORPGs and the grinds are getting "boring". But the game doesn't have the most skilled development team of thousands, being paid millions - for nothing. There is another little game called LOTRO which has most of these elements as well. There are loads of other reasons why WoW is such a good game but the above partly explains why I am back to stay with WoW for a while.
And the results are in: |

Actually Guildwars is pretty well polished too, never seen a single bug in it. But, yes. None of Wows features are unique but they do work well together, that is why it is so succesful. And Blizz are good on giving it's fans what they want. |

The best thing about WoW is that it's reliable. I tour around many MMOs but whenever I get back to WoW, I feel like always know what I'm getting into. I trust Blizzard with my monthly subscription, unlike some others. [charsig=http://lotrosigs.level3.turbine.com/032020000001a0f62/01007/signature.png]Altineen[/charsig] |

First off, you saw the title of the thread and didn HAVE to click it.... second off... just because a thread is about a certain game doesnt mean it has to be on that board... This thread is directed at the general population who (like me) arent really interested in WoW, and therefore wouldnt be reading on the WoW forums.
So quit crying, and oh.. LOL @ you for calling me a fanboi... I stated TWICE in my post that I'm sick and tired of WoW.... Grymm |

I have a solution. Every time I get bored with Wow in the last 2 years I stopped playing 6 or 7 days. After that I always stand in awe the moment I log in again. I only play without add ons - no quest helper - no search on the web for quests or boss tactics. Doing very few quests each day and it's a great game. Try role playing, it's fun. Only raid once a week. Sorry but those guys who are 80 already and downed some bosses in WotLK Raids are nuts. |

To say there is no other game in existence with the level of polish as WoW is simply untrue. WoW has it's bugs. The reason WoW sits on top of the market is not it's superior gameplay or polish. The reason it's boss is it's super low system specs, which makes it easily accessible to the masses. Everybody can play WoW, not everybody can play say, LOTRO or EQ2, but those games, in my opinion, are just as superior as WoW. EQ2 is not as polished as WoW, but LOTRO certainly is. Blizzard also knows how to market their product. They advertised to those that the others do not. I mean if some other games on the market would advertise outside of the current player market, their subscription numbers would jump up there with WoW. I mean I doubt Mr. T, Ozzy Osbourne and William Shatner actually play WoW, but it's a sure fire way to get folks to pick up that WoW box the next time they are in WalMart. Don't take this as a WoW hate post. I played WoW. It was not the game for me, but I do know it is a good game. Have a good day! Lorius-LotRO |

Where is the personal flying mount over the lands you quest in like in Outalnd or Northrend. Flying and landing over forests, mountains, cities and land anywhere you want... Where is the competitve e-sport addition in those games? Just a few thoughts of gameplay value for extreme fun. Oh yeah, Wow doesn't support player housing. Wow a real game breaking issue. |

I clicked on it because I thought it would be a good thread that belonged in GENERAL Discussion. Not some drivel praising Blizzard. I stay away from the WoW forum section to avoid that mess. Please don't bring it here.

That simply isn't true. If the fact that the low end specs were key to success, then older games and F2P games would have toppled WoW long ago. The OP has it right. "I am a WoW clone." Me |

You're absolutely right. I'm simply amazed every day at the 12 milion subscribers flocking to Shadowbane. It's quality and appeal are second to none. "I am a WoW clone." Me |
