Hmmm, lots of mixed opinion here and this probably means the OP needs to try it for themselves. I love pvp, pve, crafting etc. I left WOW 2 years ago as I was bored of same-old-same-old (I had been playing WOW for several years). I have played over 10 titles trying to find a new home. I had high hopes for both AOC and WAR; unfortunately, for me, they both failed to hook me and I have returned to WOW and EVE. The best alternative to WOW I played was LOTRO, although the crafting in VGSOH was inspired. WAR failed for me because: 1. I'm sorry, but the world did feel empty of players because of scenario grinding. I changed servers 3 times on Euro because the die-hards convinced me my problem was bad server choice rather than game design. 2. I played the same old scenarios again and again. Total blind zerg fests, although this was quite fun for the first few days. I realized that WOW battlegrounds were more innovative, varied and that classes in wow had more options and tricks than in WAR. This was a disappointing realisation for me, WAR was supposed to be the pvp king. 3. The open-world pvp - which I got a taste of during the Halloween event - was a boring stand-off in which range-dps were king. It was extremely dull. No tactics, no sneakiness, no lure and bait, no traps...just stand-off, zerg, die, rez, stand-off. The stand-offs lasted 10 minutes at a time btw, with some foolhardy types testing the water and dying in no-man's-land. 4. PQs are empty. The end-game playas will tell you that at end-game they are full and wholesome. That's great, but not much consolation for those who are expected to drift through endless ghost-towns. I am still perplexed about how bad - for me - this game was. First AOC, then this. When I went back to WOW two-weeks ago I was struck by how much Blizzard have gotten it right. For sure I am in nostalgia mode, for sure I will tire of it (again), but until a solid mmorpg fantasy pvp game is released I would recommend LOTRO (pve) or WOW (pvp server). If you can live without fantasy, then EVE is maybe yer best pvp bet. Just my opinion! Regards Melmoth |

I have been playing MMO's since EQ and I can honestly say that this is the most overhyped piece of garbage I have ever played. I have never been more disapointed in a game than I have been with WAR. The game is one big scenario grind, it lacks a meaningful world to explore, theres no sense of WAR or battlefield which you feel you must hold your ground in. Keeps dont mean a single thing, I had imagined they would be forward spawns and every keep capture would bring you that much closer to the enemies city. On top of the horrible RVR design, the game's combat feels god awful. Never have I played a game where the only way I know my "Sword Attack X" ability went off is by looking at my hotbar to see if it had actually went on cooldown. The combat animations are horrible, the game runs as if it is displaying AoC quality graphics... its basically one big unfixable mess. Anyone who is on the fence about buying the game... watchout for all the people who post how great it is... I bet there still level 1-20 which imo is the "prime" of the game. After that is all goes downhill from there. |

This sums the game up pretty well actually. The fact that taking or losing a keep doesnt mean anything was a massive turn off for me as well. Its all just a level grinding treadmill exactly like WoW and the RvR is just a gimic. To the OP - If you want a game with meaningless RvR that you can actually ignore with no consequence then this might be the game for you. |
