This is my first post on these forums and I would like to start off by saying that I am proud World of Warcraft fanboi.

I used to be a successful accountant for a reputable firm but since I started playing WoW, nothing else matters now. I resigned from this job and just live off my savings now. I also broke up with my fiance I knew and went out with for over 8 years. She left as a direct result of my WoW playing. I used to play club soccer as a rep for my club but I gave that up, as well as my weightlifting days. I have put on over 20kgs since I must play WoW for at least 12 hours a day and I can't afford time off to cook myself. Most of my friends that I played sports with or through work I have not seen for a long time now, most have given up on my refusal to change. Why should I? I have many friends in game anyhow.

I do not see these sacrifices, as I am enjoying myself. I am a real WoW fan....and with Lich King, the fun never dies.

No, this is a serious post and it is not ridiculous.

Blizzard has done a very good job in creating a lifestyle through a game.  What other game can do that? Why can't a game be a lifestyle?

Everyone is entitled to make their own decisions.

Thankyou Blizzard Now back to the game

Well...I can respect your happiness I suppose. I'm not one big on socializing often but even I find that a bit excessive. Your savings won't last forever. I myself lost a girlfriend because I enjoyed gaming. It's a mistake I wouldn't make again, but really it was one of many problems we had. Since then I have refrained from 10+ hour sessions of gaming. I take a lot of breaks, go out more often, and have a few more real life friends because of it. It made me realize that I was trying to live vicariously because my real life sucked. I fixed it, moved on, and I am not only a better person but a better gamer because of it. Hope you do the same................................................................and if this is a satirical thread -- LOL.

If this is a serious post, then maybe you have an addiction, and should not be treated lightly.

The OP is either sarcastic or joking. In his post we see gathered the whole assortment of gaming stereotyping (no friends, no family, no jobs, fat, basement dweller etc.). I guess it makes for a good comedy relief, until people not associated with gaming start believing that this description fits the norm, rather than a grossly exagurated carricature.

Things are not always obvious, especially if English is not your mother tongue. Even if you have good command of the language, you can't be sure that the guy posting in such a multicultural forum is equally eloquent.

Which brings me to your post ... I don't understand your answer.

No my friend I am not joking. In fact, I was successful; earning more then US $80,000 a year, a soon-to-be ring on my married finger and a sociable sportsman who was well liked.

But I packed it all in. I did not feel like being the norm and not really enjoying something which many do not manage to do. Is it excessive? well, until my funds run out or I find myself getting too fat, then I will not lay down my WoW hat till then.

I do believe Blizzard has more then successfully taken all these factors which is why they have created such a drug and WoW is that vehicle to carry this to millions of WoW fans.

this is what happends when players play an mmo that have addictive personalities.

Sucks that you ruined your life.

Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age?

Sadly, I actually know someone like this.

I took a temporary job while I go to school, just to make ends meet working as a Pantry cook in a country club. Their is this guy I work with (We'll call him Jim") that is 38 years old and one HELL of a chef. He had a beautiful.. I mean drop dead gorgeous wife, a nice place, and money.

I thought I was bad with online games, playing (Well prior to school) 8 hours or more a day. This guy has since lost his wife due to playing WoW and lost his job. A month has gone by since he was let go and I found out he STILL hasn't obtained a new job. Instead, he is living off of his savings and playing Warhammer non-stop. Been past his house several times (Which he rents off of family) and it looks like his truck hasn't moved in weeks.

It's sad.

For the Horde!

My story is similar.

Ever since I started playing World of Warcraft, I started getting promoted at work and ever increasingly lucractive job offers.  Not long ago I was a mere peasant sorting mail in the post-office, but just as I was about to hit level 60 in WoW, I became CEO of a multinational corporation.

I used to be rather nerdy, overweight and short-sighted.  The only girls I could pick up were the ones that understood Klingon, and they were probably men pretending to be women anyway.  But after playing World of Warcraft - all of that changed.  It was like WoW energized me; I played the game and suddenly my upper body strength increased 100 fold, the fat just fell off, and the ladies won't stop calling me.  Two are attempting to have sex with me right now.

I'm playing Soccer at an international level, professionally, not even trying and I'm already getting contract offers from the top clubs in the World.  After the Burning Crusade my penis inexplicably increased in length and girth, and with Wrath of the Lich King my intelligence now rivals that of Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstien.

I do not see these as sacrifices.

Many people have predicted the imminent decline of WoW for almost 5 years. One day, they will be right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
