Dude it literally takes years to recoup energy used to produce the home user solar panes and batteries(storage vessals would be a better term since not all are traditional batteries) for them.

It's just plain stupid to get the govt. involved in the market when there is no need to and especially before we have viable production methods that would truely take advantage of the 'economies of scale'.

I miss how my old computer kept the house warmer in winter :(

Worry:

  • Taxing YOU to prevent (or stop, reduce)  "global warming"

It is no longer "global warming." It is now "climate change."

The premise, ultimately, is energy independence via Energy Technology (ET).  I think, wise nations such as Qatar and United Arab Emirates, though over-leveraged, are more focused on trade and tourism than they are on natural resources.

Countries such as Canada and Russia stand to gain, enormously, from a world dependent on oil.  Or, at least, a world dependent on natural resources  I say we can do better.

Say no to Energy Taxes.

Say no to Energy Interdependence.

Say yes to America.

I remember something that Tom Friedman (who I agree and disagree with on different topics) said on the Charlie Rose Show. In order for the US to kick our additcion to oil (and yes...It is an addition. Anyone who calls it something else is in denial) that the way out is not to "Drill, Baby, Drill" but to "Inovate, Baby,Inovate". He then quoted an OPEC minster in the 1970's who said that the Stone Age didn't end because we ran out of stones, it ended because someone invented a better way to make tools. And so this is how the oil age will end also. That someone should be the US if we are to remain competative in the world. The world is looking towards us to find they way out of the addiction and we have the technical expertise, the means to do it. All we need is the will to do it. Once we find the solution(s) the rest of the world will follow our lead. If we fail to do so our role as a wold leader will be seriously diminished if not taken from us by those who accomplished what we were either unable or unwilling to do. As much as I love the idea of going back to the Moon and on to Mars, I think out next "Project Apollo" type goal should be for the US to be the first major country to shed its dependence for oil. (We won't the the first country since Iceland is projected to be oil free in a few years.)

This issue is a major set-back for all of the nations because all of us need oil. I think further expeditions for oil in other nations should be promulgated. Another is to be able to come up with a new source of energy as a substitute for the oil because eventually it will be depleted and it would cause a very big problem for all of us.

Oil is power.  It is like removing the carrot from in front of the donkey.  There is no end to the thirst for oil from the powers of the world.

Little old, but good insight.

Thanks.

It is a big reminder of how autos need to be retooled to be fuel-efficient.  Manufacturing cars that are simply lighter could have a far-reaching impact.

Edit:  And you have people driving around in the most tacky, and tasteless, vehicle - the hummer.
