Avison wisdom of the ages...

It's like Cabal Online had sex with Devil May Cry! I really hope the action based gameplay works out nicely. From what I've seen it might still be skill based. Any thoughts on this mmo recently brought to light?

Heres the teaser video they made: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk2aRhJ6n4o

Also, does anyone know of any other games like it?

Continent of the Ninth from NHN will be like that too and then there is Kingdom Under Fire II which will have action orientated combat with an RTS twist.

Seems Korea has realised that more action orientated combat is a worth white thing to pursue in their new MMOs. Shame western developers are still stuck in the same rut of press hotkey, skill goes off systems.

Nice, but I'll be keeping my eye on Black metal rather than Blade and soul.

Don't know if you can run it?

I think that's pretty wide stereotyping. There are developers on both side of the ocean that are trying different things than press hotkey, 123 etc.

There is was Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, The Agency, DC Universe, Stargate Worlds, the chronicles of spellborn, etc.

Metal Black looks quite nice as well. I really hope they implement some unique and interesting skills.

My biggest gripe with the mmo genre is how high level combat becomes a glow fest. Everyone is casting and using so much stuff that you can't even tell, visually, what is what. City of Heroes is the king of what I call the "lightshow effect".

None of them use real time combat and key combinations to pull off skills. There are no hotkeys in Blade & Soul and C9, you use a combination of keys and movement to perform skills, that is what action means.

Fast paced non-turn based MMOs won't work until connection speeds worldwide are vastly improved.

it works with 64 players on smaller world maps..  don't see why it wouldn't work with a few thousand on a large world map.

There's no difference. You're just increasing the player count while increasing the server power.

What makes it hard is the fact that the players are paying for the service. For example in Battlefield 2142 you can have 32 players per side in a huge fight. But in order to make it lag free the server boots any players with a ping over 150 and players have decent pcs to begin with.

It's significantly harder to manage a server thats supposed to accept all players, you can't know what to expect and anticipate which makes the scenario harder over all.

If anyone remembers planetside....it was awesome. Lagtacular but awesome.

Sure you can! It just takes time! Twenty years from now, with the rate of advancement we see now, we will all have sweet mmorpgs broadcast into our Iris through fancy glasses as we pretend to pay attention in gen-ed classes!

I'd also like to tell everyone my dream.

Devil May Cry in mmo form....ridiculously over the top action and epic environments...plus friends. I love the DMC art style too.

And Blade and Soul appears to be bringing me a little closer....

I really hope Aion is good too, it seems to be my type of mmo as well (based on my personality not the dmc combat thing).

Does anyone know if something like DMC online will ever grace my computer...or if something like it is in the works?

C9 Blade and Soul both look good, but it looks like they are only developing the Korean version at the moment so it will be a while before we see it in he US.  I will check out Kingdom Under Fire, I have not heard of it.
