I finally had enough of wow and thats all i have to say about wow. Now i have a few questions before i come to lotro. Is there any lore in game where i can read the quests and feel like there is a meaning to doing the quests, is the crafting better then wow meaning can i make usefull gear low or high level? Finally how is the community?

1. Yes, every single quest have alot of lore to it. (Epic Book / quests)

2. Weapons that you craft is often better than raid weapons, if you crit craft it.

3. The community is amazing, have never seen anything like it. As in wow, you would see people begging for gold, arguing in world chat or something like that.

In LOTRO, i have never ever seen that, and i've been playing for about a year, everyone is helpful, atleast in my server: Laurelin

 1) I don't think you can get better lore than LOTR from Tolkien.  2) What do you mean by better? 3) I think most anyone would agree that LOTRO's community is the best on the market.

so there is no rush to level to the max? Cause in wow it was be a level 70 or now 80 or dont bother playing.

Take your shoes off for LotrO, there is not nead to run to the end, if you keep a good pace, you willl never run out of content , it is how I play Ive not run out of content for the last 2 years

I am wondering where you get in WoW you have to rush to 70,or 80? Thats a choice you make.Nobody is twisting your arm and making you do it.I was once like you sick of WoW and moved on to Lotr,EQ2,and then back to WoW.I hope you enjoy Lotr's more than me,because other than it being the best looking mmo I have ever seen,it was Boring.Now EQ2 was a damn good game and I stayed in it longer than any other,you might give it a try when your done with Lotr.Goodluck in your new Endeavers,I will me taking my time Soaking up Lich King,Because I never get in a hurry for anyone,I am in it to enjoy:P

I took my time in WoW as well and really enjoyed level 1-60. Then all of a sudden my friends all mutated into power levelers with the single minded goal of getting to 70 so they could raid. I'll be the last person to put down WoW as it is a quality game providing something to do for every kind of player. The downside is of course everything seems meaningless in WoW. There is no central sotry to push you as you level There are no chapters or paths to choose. After awhile you start to feel ti's all about the gear and nothing more.

I too am considering LOTRO . Not because I'm sick of WoW but because I need a game that better suits my play style. I know LOTRO has collection quests and the other standard MMO quest types but I have a feeling that central story and great writing I keep hearing about will keep my motivated. However I do plan on looking for a good kinship and wil hopefully be dragging a friend in game with me.

The one thing that concerns me though is the class system in LOTRO . One of many things Blizzard got right was a very diverse and fun character development syste. I know LOTRO classes are lore centric but am hopong I'll find that same level of immersive character development.

As most of the previous posters have already stated (not that I feel it can be stated enough to do it justice) but I have yet to play a game that beats the story and lore of this game or even comes close. Thats my opinion ofcourse but I really feel that its the main selling point of the game.

The epic story with voice overs and the detail put into them is really what keeps me playing most.

Like yourself I played WOW before LoTRo but I dont believe I ever even read any of the quests as in order to compete for a raid spot so I could get gear so I could then compete for a raid spot etc made me just level as fast as I could.

I also have not had a feeling of acomplishment in WOW since before BC where I always get that feeling here in LoTRo when I complete a book in the epic story line.

The trick to this game is to not play it like WOW I did that and quit 2 weeks later shortly after release but when I came back about 6 months later I took my time read the quests and been loving it since.

The crafting is better IMO here but not required as everything is BOE so if you level a proffesion but want something from another proffesion no big deal just buy or trade it from someone.

The community on my server (Gladden-US) is great I cant speak for other servers but I have never been ninja looted or seen 1 Chuck Norris joke ever. That is just my personal experience but other peoples may very.

Well coming back to WoW (after nearly 4 years) after trying many reputable MMORPGs just makes me realise why WoW is king when it comes to MMORPGs. So many elements in the gameplay are just streaks ahead of so many other games. 

LOTRO, however, is a PERFECT companion to it and personally these two games fulfil all my MMORPG needs at the moment. (And with WotLK and MoM out now, you really can't go wrong. I am hearing only great things about both expansions btw!)

Play LOTRO for a slower pace, but also to interact with a much more mature community. I've been playing LOTRO for nearly a year and a half now, and the groups I've joined and the friendly chat make it a thoroughly enjoyable game.

The only other MMORPG I feel I'm missing out on is EQ2, but I know that if I join that then I'll just be spreading myself far too thin. 

Anyway, both WoW and LOTRO come highly recommended.

FWIW, I'm playing Wrath with a good group of family and friends, and I manage to eke out some enjoyment, but IMO Lotro has it all over WoW especially in the three areas you mention. The quests are loaded with lore, especially the epic book quests which are a game all to themselves - very well written and immersive. The crafting is much better, and you can make some of the best gear in the game, although it's still a big grind so I don't do much with it (I'm kind of grinded out these days). And the community has been really pretty good too, although to be honest I never had a problem with the WoW community like a lot of people seem to have. Give Lotro a shot, but stick with it at least past level 20, that's where the game starts getting great, IMO.

Because that's all WoW is about.  Just look at the system Blizzard has put in place.  EVERYTHING in the game has to do with obtaining that next piece of gear that give an incremental increase in stats:

- Badges
- Raiding
- Rep grinds
- Battlegrounds
- Arenas
- Heroic 5 mans
- Etc

Well the system works really well for people who have the time to participate in end-game content.  In Another life I had the time for such things but those days are gone. I think you should play a game not live it and what WoW requires is just too much for me.  I also don't want easy rewards either.  Getting decent gear shouldn't be such a challenge but I can see why it would be if that's all your game has to offer.

BTW I'm not a WoW hater. It's one of the finest games every made. I just think there are lots of people like me who get to that top level and realize that life circumstances, or a refusal to spend all your time in front of a PC prevent you from going any further. I'm thinking that LoTRO will have me more focused on the story than worrying about gear. That beig said though I'm really looking forward to getting feedback from the community on the new legendary weapon system.

The secret to LOTRO is to enjoy the journey to the end. Then once your at the end continue to enjoy the game with the friends you met in your journey to the end.

I too came to LOTRO after two years plus of WOW. LOTRO is a much better game for me as i am more into a good story and while graphics are not the number one issue for me the LOTRO graphics are also top notch.  My only issue is its not easy to find fellowships. I think that a lot of folks just get a high level friend to run them through the epic quests much as people do in WOW for instances. Hopefully with the release of the xpac more new subscribers will join and there will be more "grouping at level"  than ive found so far.  But again, if anyone is looking for a good mmorpg (stress on the rpg part) without a doubt LOTRO is as good as it gets right now. Ive tried a few others and this is where i have chosen to land.

Once again unless your on a very populated server, the best way to find a fell is to ask in kin. Eveeryone is rolling new alts so there will be people in lower lvl arenas atm. Check out the official forums o see what good kins are present on the server you play on.

The thing that impressed me the most about lotro is the athmosphere, riding a goat going fro 21st chamber to dolven view is priceless.
