Craig Morrison, Game Director for Age of Conan has written a letter to the Conan community where he details plans for the near future of the game, including the DirectX 10 version of the game coming in the next major update, as well as new dungeons, the Tarantia Commons outdoor playfield, improvements to the game's itemization and statistics, and more.

With the latest game update launched and on the live servers I thought it was a good time to catch up with you all and let you know what is on the horizon for the coming game updates and give you all a general status update.

With the new PVP systems now in place and Ymir’s Pass now available for you to explore we move on to the next major additions to the game. I’ll talk a little about the immediate plans for the next update as well as covering the things you can expect to see relatively early next year.

We are now preparing to take the DirectX 10 version of the game from our internal testing servers out to the public test servers, so you can see it for yourselves. The next major game update will include this version of the game and make it available for everyone with the appropriate hardware to enjoy. Since the outset we have been determined that the new DirectX 10 functionality would not just be a ‘gimmick’ addition to the game and would add visual quality to the game, we feel that the version we are preparing now for testing does achieve this and in a way that will find the right balance between visuals and performance. We have also gone to great lengths to try and make virtually all the DirectX10 features customizable so that you can find the right balance between features for the performance level of your hardware. What we did not want to do was push this version out too early and not see the real added benefits this technology can bring. I am really looking forward to players getting to experience some of the new visual improvements that this new technology allows. It really brings an even further splendor to the game world.

So 6 months after release dx 10 still isn't in game yet?  Glad I jumped ship after a month.

Awesome news. The first real dx10 mmorpg (the lotro dx10 was almost nothing).

i'll be waiting till after it gets released before i resub, partially due to the fact that im broke and also that i dont want to come back to it until i know its safe

Funcom should have been sued for false advertising, DX10 was on the box, that should have indicated it was available at release.

But let's get realistic here, adding a few more fancy graphic affects does literally nothing to the dearth of high end content.

So all you end up with is another "Meh".

Yes, didn't they promise, right after launch, that DX10 was going to be in no later than August.  They also said PvP should be in June and July. 

I just cant get myself to go try this again, maybe after all this is in I will.

Nope, they didn't. They said there would be a world first >preview< at a computer fair in Europe between August 23rd and 28th and this is what they did.

im pretty much in the same boat as you. broke as joke for now and also dont want to come in until its safe:). i do want to come back, but i dont want to come back to a mess like last time.

Well DX10 isn't a reason to resub. They need to add a little more to the game before i think about coming back.

Personally i think people need to give AOC and FC a break a little. As much as i agree they lied etc etc, they just got a new game director, well not just but he s doing a great job IMO. Give them more time and i think this game will be the game people wanted. People need to remember that more then one good MMO is good for the genre.

I was wondering if the DX10 client was coming out soon as I saw known issues reported in the newest ATI drivers.

So anyone with an ATI card with the latest drivers might want to look at the release notes on ATI's page if you plan to try the DX10 client of AoC.

the game, as it was advertised with dx10 etc..., was one of the reasons (aside from having an out of date pc anyway) that i upgraded my system to play AoC. i'd need a lot more than dx10 to come back now.

quite honestly i don't think any amount of improvements (or deliveries of release promises) can bring me back short of adopting the "alternate combo system." if i heard they were delivering on bug fixes, revamping the horrible pvp system, endgame was picking up, server populations were fun, etc... AND switching to the alternative combo system i would honestly consider resubbing.

Craig's not the "new guy", he's the Fall Guy.  He fixes Funcom's mess ups after the damage has been done.  Poor Craig, he needs to start his own company.

Actually, the "promise" was made after they ripped DX10 out of launch.  They said at that time that DX10 would be released sometime in August.  Then at the computer fair in europe, they showed off DX10 AoC at that fair.  There was a press release about it 1 week before the fair.  Again, THEY PROMISED DX10 by August.  Funcom fails.

About frigging time. Now I just have to figure out how to run DX 10 good on my XP, no way in hill that I upgrade to Vista.

That it says Dx 10 on the box isn't the worst thing BTW, the worst thing is that microsoft had it on their DX 10 page all the time, as a reason to upgrade to vista for XP users.

I'd be willing to give the game another shot if they reactivated my account for a weekend, but there is no way I'm going to pay them money, they need to woo me.

Yes, but I have read several reports on the web that it doesn't work completely, some parts don't work and some even say they never will. I don't know as I haven't tried it myself, and I'm on Vista anyway, but if anyone else could comment on this with some concrete info, it would be interesting to know how it goes.

I agree, the game needs more than prettier graphics to get me to resub. Hopefully they improve many other things between now and then.

Yea, it involves copying dx10 system files.  You would also need to find XP video drivers that support DX10...which do not exist.
