Q. Will the Heavy Metal event introduce an open RVR component, like Witching Night did? I'm looking forward to what sounds like a really cool Reikland Factory scenario, but I'm also hoping that there will also be considerable encouragement for open field combat. A. Each event is different, and there is at least one daily task that encourages open RvR, but the Heavy Metal event focuses mainly on our unique temporary scenario, Reikland Factory. source: http://herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war?id=449 What do you think about this event? I think it's going to be fun but I guess Mythic reached a dead end and thought that if players do not want open RvR, then they would focus on scenarios. However, if I were Mythic I would focus in open RvR in order for players to unlock the new careers. And on top of that, you can solo the event. Mythic said: "The goal of the event is that every task is soloable, can be done by any level, and is doable in an hour or less". Awesome, very easy, players don't have to group, good encouragement! |

More scenarios and more solo content. Well at least Mythic is sticking with the path they have chosen. I will, however, still do the events so I can try out the new classes. |

If I want to play an FPS I'll play TF2 or something... I won't be returning until they make at least one scenario-less server... |

Coming from games like LOTR where i spent good chunk of time spamming looking for team and groups, this is a relief to me. Atleast i ahve a choice to solo or get in groups. One of the main reasons i love WAR and do not hesitate rolling so many alts. In games like LOTR you have to think twice before making an alt because you never know at what point you will get stuck in game. |

The design of this event is really disappointing. Holiday Events should be more solo friendly / scenario based but something epic like this where its almost like a storyline event thats seeing the addition of new forces to the battle front should of been Open RvR based not Scenario / Solo based. Im disheartened they really had a chance to do something to get people ready for Patch 1.1 but im starting to wonder if patch 1.1 might actually just ruin ORVR. I've still got my fingers crossed and if Patch 1.1 doesn't offer something to ORVR to finally get people's heads out the sand I'm out. Not forever I do have fun sometimse but I will cancel my sub until they rectify this nightmare they created with Scenarios.

I really don't understand how can ANYONE consider this event a bad thing. FFS, Mythic is giving you guys a whole new scenario for free! And what's more it is temporary! Do you know what that really means? That there are more of them somewhere out there! Blizzard makes you PAY for one measly BG every 2 years FFS! Imo this event is a test for future events and patches - just like Witching Night was. In Witching Night we had a test (not really successful tbh) of open RvR events and PQs that are bound to feature hugely in patch 1.1. Heavy Metal is obviously another taste of things to come - I suppose that besides the regular batch of permanent scenarios we'll have a few rotating in and out of the game with events or maybe even battlefield conditions (unlockable scenarios). This looks awesome to me - I really can't find a fault with this. Imagine WoW with 10 "special" BGs rotating in and out of the game - but Bliz will never do it because they have their army of zombies happy with crumbs they are doled out - why would they bother? Jeez... some people can never be satisfied. |

I agree that there should be content accessible for solo players. But there is plenty of that already. I don't know how mythic can improve open RvR if they are doing the opposite. I also agree that for this event some of the content should be soloable, but all of it? Again, the game already has a lot of content that can be accomplished solo, but I thought that the focus of a MMO, specially WAR that was supposed to be very PvP-oriented, ends up as a single player game with a monthly fee. The scenarios are fun, but the way it was implemented into the game doesn't help at all. WAR is not everywhere, go to the open RVR areas and see for yourselves. Once in a bluemoon you see some action. Many of us came to this game expecting to see glorious battles, not just 12 vs 12 in mini-games. If this game was advertised with a focus on mini-games, I wouldn't buy it on the first place. There is no such encouragement for open RvR but scenario grinds. |

You can't deny that the biggest issue that WAR has is its reliance on scenarios by the players. I hated fucking BG's in WoW and came to WAR looking for the RVR Lakes which were exciting during Beta but went to hell with Scenarios always being over powered in its rewards. In Scenarios you get rewarded for defending and attacking but in RvR lakes you pretty much only see rewards for attacking. Despite the XP boost its not enough and Mythic knows it by testing us with the Halloween Event which I found to be fantastic. TO be honest ALL Scenarios should be heavily rotated, removed, or only certain ones available depending on the war fronts and maybe only available when one of the realms has pushed / locked down enough territories to a particular campaign. It should give alot less XP and have NO repeatable grindable quests. We've yet to see a successful attempt on a city because everyone is playing scenarios. THey wanted to use WOW as an example for some of their choices but they forgot 1 key thing. People like to do what ever is the most 'rewarding' in WoW. If it rewards something people will play it. RvR Lakes as they stand now are not nearly as rewarding as other elements of the game unless your attacking and thats a sham and a shame. IF Heavy Metal is a sign of the future then its bleak for me. I want the Warhammer Future to be based in the RvR lakes NOT scenarios. While its a good sign they'll be doing free content updates its a poor sign that they understand the problems and frustrations for those of us that are wanting to focus on the core game which is the fight for city and not shitty scenarios and uber leet prizes of "Ooh I got the most DPS in taht 15 min fight!" bullshit. Markoraos for once I think your letting your love for the game and its possible promise cloud your better judgement. Usually im rooting for you when you crap on people but you are lying to yourself if you really believe Heavy Metal's scenarios focus is a good sign for the future of the game. btw I do take offense to your post Markoraos because I've had nothing but love and faith in Warhammer and Mythic but I'm NOT blind to whats going on and I'm certaintly not blind to the glaring design flaws that are evident now that the non beta populace have come along. Maybe you should be slightly more objective instead of letting your fanboism get in the way of good judgement towards fellow players of the game. |

Actually this is the way i thought scenarios would work before the game released - conditional, unlockable scenarios. I completely agree that there should be more emphasis on Open RvR. I've been yelling about dangers of mixing open PvP with scenarios waaay before the game released and am pissed off as hell they decided to completely ignore my and other fans warnings. I wouldn't say it was intentional though... THey wanted to use WOW as an example for some of their choices but they forgot 1 key thing. People like to do what ever is the most 'rewarding' in WoW. Agree completely. WoW world PvP failed because they rewarded attacking only - while common sense dictates that main rewards should be in holding an objective. Again, it is amazing that they managed to botch this at the release with such a glaring and obvious example of WoW staring in their face. IF Heavy Metal is a sign of the future then its bleak for me. Hmm I'm a self-made fanboi on this site, that's certain, but it's a reaction to the tide of excrement I've seen swamping these forums. I assure I'm very critical of the game on other sites which aren't as hate-filled as this one. Here's a little list of what I feel is wrong with the game, just to make my point: mixing scenarios and open RvR in general, scenarios too rewarding, too much "tunneling" in PvE storylines, massive fps drops in the vicinity of keeps, bad loot tables for champion and hero mobs, too slow leveling, bad campaign ruleset design, no PvE content in RvR lakes to draw players in, too much running in general, too few crafting professions, some PvE content seems rather unpolished, lack of proper guild housing, zones' design seem too contrived - no wide open spaces for example, obviously unfinished itemization - especially high level items, renown tactics seem pretty pointless and quite weak, general bugginess (nothing really serious though), still no global /defense channel, most building are "closed" thus gimping immersion, lack of variation in individual mob behavior (though smart pathing makes PvE much more interesting than a lot of trolls would like you to believe), unfinished trophy system (cloaks in particular) etc etc... See? I can list all of the games faults as well as anyone else. And I'll probably start talking about them on this site when those goddamn WoW trolls finally move away from here so we can have a normal, rational conversation. Until that happens I'll stick to being a fanboi here because by god this game is really good enough to deserve a few fanbois to defend it against untrue and unjust BS that's been the norm around here.
Let me just elaborate some more on how massively aggressive and unfair general attitude is towards Mythic and WAR on this site. When 1.5 was announced there was a bunch of indignant "I quit" posts here proclaiming doom and the death of the game because amongst the many changes were slight nerfs to HoTs in the game. Mythic was proclaimed a completely clueless and despicable company which is only out for the grub, completely ignoring any and all player concerns. Well guess what? They decided to leave those HoTs as they are after careful testing on their test server. Give Mythic some credit people.. I really don't know where this hostility and distrust originates but it has reached a bit creepy levels. This is an event - a nice thing given for free to players. The sky is not falling, the game is not about to be butchered and killed by a bunch of incompetents just because they made one effing event... It is a nice thing. It shows they care. they give stuff away for free and are actually listening to their playerbase - not as much as they could, ofc, but waaaay more than what is the norm in mmos. Just compare this HoT change and the way they handled it with many other such class change patches in other mmos, including the most popular one now. Heck, I waited for almost 6 months before Bliz got off their asses and got down to fixing my hunter which was nerfed below the point of playability. 6 effing months in which i couldn't do an instance for the love of god because no one wanted a hunter in their group. Let us put things in perspective here, hmm? |

I agree mark the general attitude towards Mythic & WAR on "this' site is overly violatile and down right trollish. I took offense because it felt as if you were 'slamming' me into that catagory when I've been rather out spoken both under this name and my retired name with my love for WAR. Whether the event was planned before or after launch they should of adjusted it seeing the current issues with the state of the game. If 1.1 doesn't address the issues and make the RvR lakes viable then I will temporarily retire my account. |

Thank you. Finally, a poster with a modicum of level-headedness. A rarity here where mosts posts are just thinly-veiled cross-board trolling, post-quit hating and emo ranting. Would most of us prefer to see more emphasis on ORvR and less on scenarios? Yes. Is Mythic taking steps to do so? Yes. Is Mythic boosting populations of already populated servers (which helps in ORvR)? Yes. Is the response happening quickly enough? Depends who you are. An average adult without ADD is probably OK with the pace of the changes. * * * Why those who aren't satisfied feel the need to cry about it here is beyond me. Seriously. What's crying here going to do about it? Why should Mythic bother sifting through 90% tainted meat for the few decent morsels in this forum? You want to help the game? Yeah, 1.1 is my great hope too. (and sorry for being a bit hard, those past months were really trying on the nerves around here... I hope Aion/Darkfall/TCoS will come out soon so we can have a normal talk without the troll zerg camping here) Really the main gripe I have with Reikland thing is so obvious... but I don't see anyone noticing it here... They are making Reikland not contributing to the zone control (it yields no VPs) which is not horrible per se, but at the same time they're making it 10% more rewarding in terms of individual rewards (Xp and Rp). This is worrying - it shows that they still haven't grasped the basic human psychology regarding individual vs group goals and rewards. Individual benefit will ALWAYS take precendent over group's. If you want to make a group-based environment you have to make group rewards directly benefit the individual. To make it even more clear - doing what's good for the group should benefit the individual even more. All the team sports are based on this basic mechanic - it is really puzzling that mmo developers still haven't grasped this very very simple principle. I know that its just to make people play the scen more while it's active but still... they would play it even without those additional rewards. Humans are naturally selfish and heroism is a very rare thing... which usually turns out to be an illusion when you look close enough. They must start making those individual vs group rewards more compatible - current open RvR situation is a very very clear example of this syndrome. I really hope 1.1 takes this into account. |

Have to agree, the way I see it...there's too much focus on scenarios...Mythic needs to work this out better. NOBODY is going to rvr if its easier to do everything in a scenario. The trouble with scenarios is..they're kind of like fast food.....you will eat it for a time..then you will move on, because you are tired of it. Thats exactly the theme I am seeing here from posters on this site and other forums. We need the rvr to be more exciting ..more attractive so that players will do that more often than scenarios and stay playing the game. RVR should be the thing that keeps players motivated and playing...scenarios won't ever do that...as the above poster stated they are minigames, and as such are basically temporary entertainment. And I don't have any good ideas about how to make RVR the main focus. I think maybe scenarios PRIOR to open beta and release should have been toned down some in the rewards etc. But..too late now ..it is what it is. Cend

I wouldn't mind that at all. I for one would like to see more people around the world and not in scenerios all the time, people in PQ's and questing after 25ish are non-exsistent. |

The trouble with scenarios is...that is where your opponent is more than likely hanging out. I think thats what he's getting at. If your opponent is in the scenarios, he's not in the rvr lakes, so no matter how much you want to fight in the rvr lakes, you can't do it by yourself. :P Empty rvr lakes is a complaint that I read often when surfing a few forums. Also same scenario popping time after time after time. Just want to add I know that Mythic is fixing this or has fixed it..not sure ..I don't go to scenarios unless dragged there by guildies. :P Cend |

The trouble with the rvr lakes vs scenarios is that the lakes are boring. Zerg the castle door, zerg the lord, rinse and repeat.. Unlike doac where you had various tactics you could use, busting holes in the walls or in some cases climbing over them to toy with the defenders, and placeable artillery... WAR's rvr lakes are too linear, there's no 'fun' in it.. Most of the time the sides are totally unmatched too. In the scenarios at least its relatively even matched, and theres just more dynamism to them. WAR's gotten dull. Maybe this event will rekindle my desire to play it.. but who knows. Besides, there are alternatives for me now.. The future generation of mmos coming up is going to be mighty wicked. ---- |

On the server where I play, the T4 RvR zones are active on a nightly basis. If you're looking for that kind of a fight, it is out there for you. Why? Well, it's the 6th most populated server and there are a good number of people at T4 level. However that number still only represents about 8% of the total population on either side. I think that bodes quite well in the next couple of months as far as what we're going to see for ORvR. The thing I would be more concerned about is going to be the lag issue for all those players being all out there at once. As far as activity level goes though, I don't think that lack of numbers in the T4 RvR lake areas will be an issue. The T1-T3 lakes is another issue. Something else to think about is that there's a built-in disincentive to run scenarios after a while. Once your Renown reaches 38-40 you aren't going to be getting much renown out of Scenarios, even when you're running with a guild party and winning all of them. That disincentive will eventually cause those min-maxers (personally I despise that kind of play) to leave scenarios due to the fact that they are able to get Rank faster in ORvR. |

In regards to the original post, I was just queued up for Reikland for at least 2 hours. Folks are doing scenarios, but still mostly Nord... ~Ripper |
|
The activity in the rvr is not the problem, its the dullness of the rvr. It feels like something quickly slapped together with little thought just to have something there on release, instead of a sophisticated pvp realm vs realm warground. Like if they took everything good about doac's rvr, stripped it of everything but the very basics, then slapped it on a quickly done pve world. Mythic sacrificed everything that was excellent about doac to make a mainstream wow-clone. Argh. (no, not an insult to wow, just a reference to a particular mmo genre) ---- |
