I enjoyed the first book. Unfortunately for me, I found that each of the successive books seemed to suffer from sequel syndrome. Still this series is one of the best-selling so there's a pretty good chance that this game is the devs to mess up. Does anyone remember the FPS? I tried the shooter that came out a while back. Balance issues did not matter as much in a FPS, and the story was surprisingly well done. A MMO though? I agree almost everyone will want to channel. Or be a heron mark blade wielder. Or both. I find the Jedi and SWG analogy fitting. NGE and Jedi ruined the game. Well Sony certainly helped. For WoT I could see a great deal of hype, a lot of ppl who would try the game. But stay? Hopefully the devs put together a top-notch product. |

Its about time. Been hoping for a WoT mmo for some time. Now I know some people might be afraid that its a new company who has a lot of people that arent experienced in the field, but taking a look at a lot of recent mmo's does having experience or being a well known company lead to a great mmo? no it doesnt. Perhaps a new face can make something that we can enjoy... Warp |

Oh wonderful, another Perpetual with a different name to ruin one of the better fantasy series out there. When will these idiots out there understand there is more to making MMO than just great lore. The fruitcakes in this industry truely amaze me sometimes at their complete lack of understanding of the genre. They are going to magically raise investment capital and a development team that will do justice to this series? More like bilking another group of investors who fantacize they can have the next Wow on their hands. |

Hmm, could work well or just be a mess. I would prefer a "Game of throne" game instead myself however. Anyone know which time it will be in? I hope they don't do as LOTRO and let the players be NPCs to the main chars, better have it during the trolloc war or so then. |

I'm curious though, since book 12 will be a definitive ending for the WoT series, how will the developers expand on the universe? The problem with this MMO is that with the passing of Robert Jordan the lore is pretty much a closed and set in stone. I assume then that the developers will be able to create whatever storyline they wish which does not sound like a good idea to me. |

I LOVE the LOTRO game - Graphics are awesome, gameplay is great and I like the PvP - can't wait for Mines of Moria to be released! I would love to see PvP in a WoT time where you could play Dark creatures and/or Aes Sedai, etc. However, if it ends up like that P.O.S. game that was released several years ago, it would be a sad thing for this phenomenal book series. |

Interesting, but even if there is another book to encompass all of Jordan's material, it still means that after this book has been published all further material will not be the ideas that Jordan envisioned |

I loved Jordan's story... however... the man had a problem, almost ever character introduced in one book had to be followed like a main character in the next... along with everyone else. He couldn't have wrapped it up in one more book, and I only hope his replacement can bring it all together successfully. As for an ongoing game, there are plenty of things going on in the world that don't involve Rand and friends... I see no difficulties in keeping it fresh and fun, yet remaining connected to the world of the novels. |

Does anyone actually know of any studies showing that having an established lore like this or LOTRO actually helps sell the product? Personally I tried to read the series twice and gave up on the fourth or fith book. At the end of the day its just a bunch of teens riding around the country side. Mind you, that probably bodes well for an MMO. Take the most boring, least creative, least strategic and most heavily scripted parts of rpgs and ditch everything else and there you have MMOs today. - Fennris |

Perhaps they can let it play during the war of shadows, I'm sure they had planty of countermessures against channelers then... Shocklanses anyone? :) |

I really find it kind of sad that the initial reaction of so many could be.. "we don't need another fantasy game." I hate to say it, but I think this is part of the problem that the genre has in general with todays gamers. Once upon a time you didn't have to spoon feed lore to gamers because they were intelligent, imaginative, and they not only welcomed deep immersive environments.. but they also tried to add to them. The Wheel of Time source book was way better in my opinion than the generic D&D x-edition, as were the campaigns, and they always sold better for me. As a literary series it has a huge fan base, and that's what I find funny about the reaction I read. Just consider that the subscriber numbers are correct on various chart sites, and North America has 5 million subscribers to the genre. So the MMO gamer can tell a fan base that's a couple times bigger that they shouldn't have a game because the genre is flooded with generic fantasy titles? Maybe they can pull off a good game, or maybe they can't. Some things in the world are way bigger than the mentally challenged kiddies that support this genre, and WoT is far more deserving of a place at the table than just about anything other fantasy title on the market.

Double agreed. Goodkind is, IMO, far superior an author than both Tolkien and Jordan. Whether from his world, the story itself, or just his style of writing. |

Remember that they could make films about birgitte silver bow and Arthur Hawkwing ect. Not many of the 100 heroes of the horn were actually channelers. |

This game can be done. Just set it up to be on the Era before everything went crazy, before the poisoning. That way there is balanced gameplay.
That or make something up, perhaps after that guy fixed the poisoning.
Avoided spoilers for future readers. |

Finally, a neverending game for a neverending series of books, lol. |

Well it was posted that R.J. did outline all his plot ideas that he had, so while it may be more then one book by a different author part of R.J. should still be there.
Anyways back on topic I personally think, if done right, it might be interesting if it's set after Tarmon' Gaidon, but then again since it hasn't actually happened in the books yet and no one cep the new author has any idea what the world will be like after Tarmon' Gaidon it might be hard... |

Red Eagle who??? Rick Selvage who??? Larry Mondragon who??? This is another case of "let's acquire a major property, milk the venture capital morons for a few million, and then close up shop and run ." What's the pedigree of the guys running this outfit. ie... Name 3 Five-Star / Triple-A titles that either of these frauds has ever Developed, Produced, and Shipped. Exactly. This is a scam. |

Do people get a kick out of bashing stuff? There's always at least a handful, though usually more, of people who just go around and bash stuff all the time. Sure no one's heard of any of these names. Sure it could be a scam. But at the same time it could be an honest new company trying to bring something good to the consumers. Only time will tell. |

"A full line of games, including an MMO"...sounds almost like they're doing the MMO as something on the side, but hopefully I was reading that part wrong and that they have the resources to devote full time staff and money, manpower, talent etc to all of these games, it just sounds like reaching for a little bit too much but I hope they can pull it off :) |

Well I got all 10 books, though I'm only at book4. I play Lotro and maybe a few months ago posted I would love to see World of Time made into a game. So I am thrilled that they are planning to. Though I kind of wish Turbine did it since I think they did a great job in Lotro thus far. Regardless of the makers, I'll try out the MMORPG and see where they take it when it is out :) |
Originally posted by KyutaSyuko Well when two relatively unknown characters jump up and announce a movie and a MMO, it pretty much screams to be a bit skeptical. Even experienced development teams have tilted at windmills lately with their MMO's and you don't understand why there is a lot of skepticism on announcement like this?

Hopefully somebody does something different and refreshing, because Fantasy MMO is over done, but I think all MMO's have left More then a LITTLE to be desired. Let us pray they take a UO style approach to this game. [/img] |
