Patience is a virtue, reason a necessity

Hey Everyone,

I picked up my WOTLK this morning and am looking forward to going through some of the new zones and what not. I have not at the moment had a chance to get on *CRY* work and the family comes first.  If anyone has had the opportunity to brave Northrend please leave your impressions of the new class and the new zones here for everyone to discuss.

First impression. There are a lot of people in the game. I hope they stick around

QFT Almost impossible to do some quests because so many people grouped around the spawn areas.

And leveling is taking such a long time

But the expansion is fun (if you are in howling fjord attack a turkey!!)

For the Horde!

The DK starting area is really excellent, and Northrend - from what I've seen so far, has been quite impressive - especially the geography of the land.  It feels like they've actually put to good use the money they've been making from us.

Personally my favourite thing is seeing my friends back in game again, after we all took breaks etc, we were getting bored waiting for the expansion.  Northrend feels more consistent and epic than Outland, and I prefer the more traditional scenery.

I still haven't levelled past 70, it takes quite a lot of exp to gain a level, which is good because there is a LOT of content for each level.  Ran Utgarde keep a couple of times already, nothing particularly challenging though - though we're all in high end raid epics from TBC :p

It's kind of premature to say, but I think WOTLK will be the peak of the game, much like Velious was the peak of Everquest, being the 2nd expansion of that game.  Actually there are a lot of similarities between Velious and Northrend - lots of ice, dwarves, dragons, giants, huge bridges :p

So I figure I'm going to make the most of WoW now before it begins its slowly downward decline.  By the time the next expansion comes around, we might actually have another game that comes close to the quality and fun factor.  I guess Blizzard can go back to working on D3 and SC2 now as well :p

Many people have predicted the imminent decline of WoW for almost 5 years. One day, they will be right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Pretty sure Blizzard has said they don't have plans to make more expansions for WoW. They realize that it's already become dated and in about 6 months to a year will likely become an antique (a still very popular antique of course).

Blizzard is smart enough to realize that the next expansion they would make would have to upgrade their engine and graphics design in a pretty big way. I'm not convinced they'll be willing to do that on an existing title. If anything I would expect to see either a sort of "WoW 2" (lame idea imho) or a Starcraft Online.

Not saying WoW will be going anywhere anytime soon, but I just wouldn't expect another expansion on it.

Lol, this surprises you?

This is one reason why you don't buy new MMO's or expansions and start them on launch day.

Well if Evercrack can do it, WoW should have no problem at all to update their graphic engine. The game is only 4 years old anyways, still a baby comapred to Ultima Online and Evercrack. I just wish Blizzard would release more free content to it users for being so loyal through out the years.

I would have to agree on the Starcraft Online, we dont need anymore fantasy mmorpgs to saturate the market even more.

Thats right! Blizzard is so smart, that they would totally abandon one of the most successful games in MMO history, and a cash dow that brings them 11 Million X $15 = $165,000,000.00 per month, or $1,98 Billion dollars a year in subscriptions ALONE, not counting box sales. They should drop this game and totally stop it..after all, why would a company want to make that good of a profit? They must really be crazy.....

The next expansion is already being worked on.

Planned launch date around May 1 in 2010 - but of course only when ready. With free big patches for WotLK in May and November of 2009 (those last two dates are already scheduled if you followed the WOW schedules from the last 18 months).

Don't expect any new MMORPG with the same quality before that date btw, because no one has the money and Blizzard just keeps raising the standards.

Those who log in to see the starting zones of Northrend understand what I mean... Wow will be here in 10 years time (not even in the same time frame, but it will still be called Wow).

Expect a merge of Battlenet and Wow subs also beginning in the next year already. Making for a 20 million target audiance (SC2 and Diablo3) in 2010.

In view of these corporate plans, this Wow can only be considered the beginning of something multiple times bigger. Indeed that big.

You crazy WoW kiddies and your dependency on quests. Just find a nice camp and kill it a bunch, you don't need quests to level up.

Mythic has been doing free expansions for almost a decade, and their expansions are much larger than WoW, and actually do something different for the game instead of raising the level cap. Vast majority of people are sick of WoW, just like they were sick of EverQuest for the same reasons, they are virtually the same game, except WoW has about 1/4 the content and depth. WoW will never die, no MMO really does (a few, but those are exceptions) but its peak has come and gone.

My 1st impression was excitement to try it out.. After 2 hours of problems with authenticating and multiple crashes to the desktop after 2 hours I quit..uninstalled, cancelled and am going to sell my account to a friend...and I won't lose all money I spent on it, cause hes gonna buy it at a discount.

Im very dissappointed with WOW...This is possibly worse than TBC..BIG time let down...A sure sign that Blizzard is investing more time and money on other games in developement. I don't understand why they can't release expansions for free...A Billion dollar a year company and they feed us with a $100 B rated game...

I edited this because I wasn't finished venting..Its more of the same with repainted mobs that were in TBC..truly a disgrace for a well known company...Same cartoonish graphics, but thats the way it has been from the start....lag city..

Right, because after the numerous posts you constantly make about how the game is doomed and closing down soon you rushed right out to buy the latest expansion.  What a surprise you had such bad luck and everything in WoW is terrible and you rushed right over to help inform people of Blizzards awful bad evil ethics.

The game feels like the old wow. The rvr and new content is quite exciting. I'm 1/2 way to 71 and liking it.

My server has been really good, a couple bad spots of lag but not many.

I find this incredibly hilarious after all the doom and gloom people spouted about the servers falling apart.

The game is amazing. The quests are great and everything has an awesome feel to it.

You have heard the 8 PM news from a WoW employee. Now, we need Azrile for economy news, Strategy for the Xfire report and a nekked chick for the weather report for even more WoW subs. Stay tuned!

Being a fanboy is one thing (which I have no problems), making stupid propaganda like this is another thing.

Actually he is mostly right.  Blizzard said their plan was to make an expansion every 12Months.  Obviously, being Blizzard that is 18 months :)

The news about WOW and Battlenet merging has already been mentioned before.  it's a smart move by Blizzard to market all their games to their players.

All I have to say about the propaganda is to look at the numbers.  Blizzard in the last two weeks has launched about 10 new servers in NA and EU.    Warhammer, which is 2 months old is merging almost 50% of their servers and AOC is looking like they will be down to 4-6 servers in a month or two.

Wait until the sales numbers come out for the first 24hrs of Wrath.    probably about 3.5M copies in NA and EU in ONE day.  that is more people so anxious to playthe new expansion that they bought it the very first day.  that is more subscribers than EVERY other p2p game in NA and EU combined.   And that doesn't include Asia.

Here is a neat trick.. go to the wow main page and scroll down the realm status page.   About 50% of them are 'full' during primetime and have queues.    Compare that to Warhammer where people use the word 'ghostown' more and more frequently.

AOC was propaganda at launch,  Warhammer was propaganda at Launch.    Wrath's huge success is all about people who actually have played the game for the past years wanting more of that game.  People would not be this anxious to buy the expansion if they didn't like the game so much.

Wont be trying it for a while, but I will say the broken / crashed servers generated over 400 call in's to my work asking why today thinking their i-net was broken.
