http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=77574. In an effort to prevent this turning into a troll vs. fanboi thread, the link above is the latest news from the devs. I will let you draw your own conclusions. (I know it is long, but truncating it would add my opinion of what is important and spark an uneeded argument.) I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy. |

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on. |
Somebody remind me again why they can't use the front page for news like the rest of the game development companies in the world? - CaesarsGhost Lead Gameplay and Gameworld Designer for a yet unnamed MMO Title. |

LOL. Who knows, this game was supposed to be released at anytime within the last 5 years. Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic |

currently it is supposed to be ready for release in december, that would mean it will actually release in december or maybe january because they need to get it all distributed, but this is one of those games that i would spend the week downloading if needed lol and beta is supposed to get bigger on monday...i expect wednesday because someone will go wrong prolly. |

no just go beta nothing was ever mention since 2003 about release |

As far as I know, they still claim to be releasing before the end of 2008. This means the game has to go gold in the next five weeks.
I won't say it's impossible for them to pull this off, but to take an MMO from internal testing to successful release in a month or so would be the greatest feat of programming I've ever seen.

Let's just say I'm not holding my breath for a 2008 release. 2009 seems more likely at this point. I'm interested in seeing what they produce, because I like the ideas behind the gameplay and feature list.
I guess it's "exciting" in one way - Tasos & Co. are finally facing a deadline. If they don't release by the end of the year even the most ardent defenders will become disillusioned at yet another broken promise and delay. If they do release something so soon, it will be a miracle of coding if it isn't in an EXTREMELY beta state. This won't help them much more than a delay, if any.
So at least, for many, the time of final reckoning for Darkfall is at hand. I think the odds against the game are very high, meaning they will either have to delay release for at least six months, or release something that is so unready that to ask people to pay for it will be a bigger disaster than never releasing at all. |

wait, are you interested in EU release or US release? Because the latter is bound to be delayed somewhat. |

They're supposed to release in December 2008. I wish them the best, but the developers have a long track record of broken promises. My advice? If they don't have an open beta by the end of the year, just write this game off. If they do have an open beta, then we can probably hope for a 2009 release. |

I disagree with this statement. If Darkfall doesn't release by EOY, then the 'community' will come back with "it'll release when it's ready".. and we'll be led along by the nose. That's what blind faith does. The game is already in closed public beta, but I'd be surprised if they release by the end of the year. Obviously Aventurine have a better idea what shape their game is in than I do, but they must have massive faith in the professional testers they've had testing the game since 2007 if they think they can release with a public beta only 2 months long (public beta started in August). Time will tell, but I think the realistic probability will be that Darkfall will be in open public beta by the end of 2008, with release in 2009. |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

Their use of "private" testers has brought up another interesting point. For a company that is quite small, and has limited resources, can they really have hired enough private testers to fully emulate the full stress the servers are going to be under when it goes live? |

No. They never stated how many professional testers they had, but they've said that they've tested 100v100 battles, with players logging on from around the world, and it's ran fine. However, each server has been said to house 10,000 concurrent online players. If I were a betting man, I'd say that they don't have 10,000 professional testers. Just a hunch. |
