Don't play this game. If not for the fact that it is a mere shadow of what it once was, and still as much a bug ridden piece of filth as it was on November 14th 2005(the day the NGE released if you didn't know), don't play it for the good feeling you will get from knowing you aren't giving any money to such a horrible company that doesn't care in the least about it's customers.

Download the trail and make up your own mind, you'll either love it or hate it ( like most games really ) and yes you can play jedi straight of but no glow bat for you until you gain a few levels.

You should give the game a try.  You cannot appreciate just how bad the game is unless you have experienced it for yourself.  If you are an MMORPG player, it will give you a much greater appreciation of other MMOs, since none of the other ones are anywhere near as bad as SWG currently is.

Be warned, what the folks who made the website consider "thriving" is quite a ways divorced from reality.  They would be more in line with reality if they changed the website's tagline to "Star Wars Galaxies - We Haven't Shut Down Yet".

Anyway, by all means, try the trial and come back here and tell us about your experience.  Who knows, you may be one of the, as you put it, "elite few".  More than likely you will come to understand why they are so few in the first place.

No one is "hating on this game"...  It's foolish to have emotions towards a video game one way or another.  Please...  The problem is that you hate on this forum more than anyone else.  Most of the vets who realize what a broken game SWG is, still suggest that new players try the free trial...

I always suggest they play the free trial before paying a dime for the game.  That simple.

I feel the need to say something in regards to the "vet haters" leaking into the regular forums. (I feel the need to say things a lot. I get the feeling that it'll one day either get me fired or earn me a promotion.)

It is not, nor has it ever been, and nor will it ever be, against the rules of MMORPG.com to express a negative opinion. People are allowed to do that. They are allowed to come in to a forum full of people who love a game, and say "I hate this game". That's an opinion. You're allowed to speak opinions. Now it's true that the rules of MMORPG.com say that "excessive negative comments" are considered trolling. I can't speak much for that rule except to say that I think it's impractical and outdated, as well as being incredibly subjective and open to interpretation. Regardless, people are allowed to speak their opinions. Sometimes it may seem like a person's only purpose is to hang around one forum and talk bad about that game. And that can be annoying, but it's acceptable. People are allowed to talk bad about things. If they weren't, then the forums truly would be a dictatorship.

Secondly, this may come as a great surprise to many of you, but the moderators here don't really care about the specific sides of the community. The vet forum does stand out, but only insofar as it seems to be the center of a lot of flame wars. We don't moderate as fans of one side or another, because that never factors into it. I don't think there's been a single instance of a moderator here deleting a post because of a personal opinion. Like, ever. Maybe once or twice with a rookie moderator who was still learning the ropes, but seriously, that's it. We don't care about the NGE and Smedley. We care about flame wars and gold spammers.

Finally: Sharky, it's generally not going to get you much response to speak publicly about moderation issues. If you have issues with moderation, you should consult the community manager.

Also, for whatever it's worth, while I can't tell for sure why your post was deleted because I wasn't the one who deleted it, I can say that it was probably less to do with you telling somebody that they should make up their own mind, and probably more to do with the bit where you called another user a fascist. If you avoid calling other users fascists, you should probably be fine in the future.

Its always the same guys, derailing and spreading negativity and falsehoods about the imminent shutdown of the game etc. Just take a look at Obraiks thread about vehicular combat. He's basically been accused of lying and trying to dupe people into subbing, which quite simply isnt the case, and its ALWAYS the same offenders.

I have taken it up with the management and I made it public because it is my RIGHT to do so. If they choose to permanently ban me, that is their choice. This is a forum, it is of little consequence whether I am a member here or not in the grand scheme of things.

Again, no offense, and I won't comment any further on this matter.

I see it like this. If you have the time to fill to wonder about a new game, Then yes. At worst you know you never want to play that game, and at best you might like it. You are only out time. Which you were trying to fill up anyway. When possible always make your own decision.

No, I'd say it's simply defending opinions, which is pretty much all these kind of discussion boards come down to. It's really no surprise that there's more negative opinions than positive on this particular game's forum and that can no way be attributed to the people that run the site and/or forums, SOE messed up so they get the flack that comes with it. It's actually the same if you look at other forums on this very site, AC, AoC right through to Roma Victor... infact pretty much every game that has a forum here. There is no bias, you simply can't maintain any sort of online community if there's even a hint of bias, especially one as large and vocal as this particular one.

As for open commenting of moderation, most sites do prohibit it, there's terms and code of conducts to cover that on almost every site you'll ever visit, strangely though I can't seem to see anything like that here, possibly an oversight I guess but I'd expect that to change, it's nothing more than good manners to keep private conversations..... private.

Nope, thats not at all what I said. Obraik's current thread is a prime example of what I am talking about. He has been baited, misquoted, misrepresented and you, among others, are over there just trying to find a kink in the armour so you can pounce. No doubt you'll have endless criticisms of the flight model judging by Obraik's most recent response.

It is your nature to complain. When SWG does finally go, you'll either continue to whine about it long after it's closure or you'll find something else to complain about. That is the problem I have and it has nothing to do with free speech. Speak your piece, tell us you dont like SWG and why, but don't hang around, maliciously trying to pick holes in the game and its players simply because you have an axe to grind.

Well you obviously haven't seen too much of my posts. "Speak your piece, tell us you dont like SWG and why" That's pretty much what I do, I won't respond to Obraik's post in the other thread because he's already said what needs saying, it's not true atmospheric flight, it's what a lot of us guessed it would be, a modified version of the speeder mechanics, that was all I asked, that was all I wanted in reply. Your biggest problem is you see all "vets" as one entity, I'm a former player of the game of course, so consider me a vet if you like, it's rare you'll see me stating anything other than what's factually correct and on the rare occasion I do it'll probably be either alcohol (don't post drunk, kids) or misinformation, which I'm only too happy to be corrected on if that's the case.

On game mechanics, functionality, playability or whatever else with regards to the game, my opinion is just as relevent and at home on this forum as yours is.

I am a "vet" by their definitiion (although I find it a laughably inappropriate definition). I do not wish to subvert anyone's legitimate opinions but if you have an OUNCE of objectivity, you know that there are several here (and maybe you aren't included) that exist to attack anything positive that is said about SWG.

These are the same people that would be praising things like Hoth if there had never been an NGE. My guild and I spend hours a week on voice chat in the wee hours discussing the things we miss and the many other things that need attention. We lament the absolute stupidity of things like the halloween festival when they COULD be fixing bugs that have been around for years.

I am not some rabid fanboi, blinded by an irrational love of the game, or SOE. I play because I have many friends there and I still have a good time playing the game, despite its flaws. I enjoy helping new people and I still like going out and solo grinding in the deepest darkest parts of the Galaxy.

Dath is not as dangerous or forbidding as it used to be, Krayts aren't the challenge they used to be, but the game is still fun and I'd still rather play SWG than any mass marketed cartoon garbage that we will see in 2 years (mark my words on that).

In closing, MMORPG gave the "Vets" a forum for their conspiracy theories, naysaying and general ill will towards SWG and SOE. I never really post there and I rarely read the posts because it's always the same people and it's ALWAYS the same sentiment. I respect their right to post whatever they want, including the utter lies that have been perpetuated there in the last 3 years concerning the "imminent" demise of SWG.

Just keep it there, I think thats a fair request. Anything positive that is posted here is IMMEDIATELY attacked and that is the height of disrespect and discourtesy towards people who genuinely enjoy the game and to those who are thinking of trying it. Let them make up their own minds based on their own experiences.

I would stay away from this game for one simple reason.... it's boring.

What is hilarious is that Sharky is defending Obraik's thread claiming that he got flamed and derailed...

Go look at the title of Obraik's thread and tell us that it is not misleading...  Obraik later retracted saying that he "HOPES" vehicular combat comes to SWG outside of Hoth, but the title of his thread is just another example of why his posts come under scrutiny.

Sharky, I have just as much right to post here as you do.  So does everyone else.  A lot of people have very negative opinions of this game because, quite simply, the game isn't very good.  I still use my vet trials when they are offered so I can certainly offer an opinion of this game that is just as credible as yours or Obraiks.

It seems to me that you are the one that has all the problems on this forum.  We have been discussing this game for a long time with civility.  Even with Obraik and gutboy, there is civility, but with you it's just whining. 

The moderation of this forum is quite equitable.  I would suggest you take a break from the internet for a while and ease your tension.  It isn't healthy to get this emotional over a forum or a game.
