Except there's no coffin to nail so I guess you'll be nailing your own foot to the pavement? Contrary to MMORPG.com Troll reports WAR is doing quite well sure its not some bizarre freak success like WoW but its doing well enough to keep a stable population happy myself included. Thats all any MMO needs is a stable paying population. Anyone with any common sense knows that WoW's success and growth is a complete phenomon caused by the fact Blizzard is worshiped by gaming Zealots world round and has been for years before WoW even released. The WoW Juggernaut Carrot stick will continue to live on and good for them they need something they can exploit the mess out of according to their own CEO. Personally I could really give 2 shits what anyone from Activision Blizzard has to say as they pissed me off with WoW and they're breaking my heart with Diablo 3...I'm still on the fence with their Starcraft exploitation. |

68 percent of the players who listedn AoC as their reason for leaving... then went back. Many of those probably left again, and listed Warhammer Online as their reason. Spinning numbers is fun, and people make a living off of it. I hope WoW retains customer's forever... and that people always refer to it as home... I want WoW to hold more subscriptions than any other MMO Blizzard ever releases. I hope Blizzard is subjected to the same thing all other MMO companies have faced. and I bet they will, so long as an MMO is released with bugs.
Compared to most of the other mmo companies, blizzard doesn't have the trouble of "fundings", they can delay their games as long they see fit, players will whine about it but they will still buy it and be deeply thankful about Blizzard not rushing the games out of the doors.
Really with a billion dollar monster which blizzard has become, they won't need to worry about fundings, deadlines for releases, or the costs it takes for a delay, they got the funds to delay a game and be certain it will sell. Others don't have that luxury, thus they rush it and there we got WAR and AoC from, the only upcoming mmorpg that could possibly have a chance is Aion, since NCsoft also have fundings to simply take their time.
In the past a company with 10 mill funds could make a mmo for a couple of thousand players, today, you need more than 50, and with blizzard's current, still secret mmo project, which was set at 250mill initial funds, you can only guess, what there will be left after that bloodbath.
I hope that the upcoming mmorpgs and companies will take lesson in AoC's and War'hammer's problems and mistakes, so we all can get the fruits of new mmorpgs, which aren't rushed but polished to the core and worth every penny.
Though we have all become spoiled brats, i remember not giving much of a thought about bugs in my old mmorpgs, today just 1 silly bug that doesn't even force you to stop playing, is a big whine hit..... such a tough time new mmorpgs will have in store. |

I suspect the funding issue Funcom had was due to their own mis-management starting additional MMO projects and such.
Both of these titles should be huge success stories. While the outcome of Conan is pretty obvious, at least Warhammer is off to a good start if it can retain that momentum though time will tell.
WoW is very vulnerable right now, even with Lich King coming out. There sure looks to be a huge number of people looking for a new MMO to grab their attention and retain their subscriptions. The problem is companies keep underestimating how important it is to launch a stable finished game and make a solid first impression. There are enough games that launched well or have fixed themselves up to respectable levels that people just don't have to wait for a new game to get its act together.
Even considering the Warhammer is one of the best releases in the last four years, I think it is pretty obvious people are willing to return to their previous games and wait their to see how it turns out. It has proven almost impossible to regain the momentum of launch even when games get all their kinks worked out months after release. I don't know if people are spoiled or just tired of paying to wait for potential to be realized.

ALL PLAYERS will leave one game for a better game IN A HEARTBEAT. Its just not WoW players that are like this.
AION looks to be solid. Just enough like WoW and just different enough to do something HUGE, possibly. |

except for the fact that there is no coffin and no nails of any kind. just because WAR didn't reach 20million subscribers AFTER THE FIRST MONTH. doesn't mean its dying or any of that other bullshit some WoWbois are spewing. the President of Mythic has already said all WAR needs is 250k subscirbers to be a success. hell games like SWG and EQ2 have less than that (or about that) and they are still around. so yes TO ME a bunch of idiot WoW fans going back for WOTLK is a very good thing |

I consider myself a Mythic fanboi but WAR didn't make the grade or will it ever. I'm sorely dissappointed after having so much expereince with he best PVP game on the market DAOC. I've thought about ROTLK but i don't like instanced PVP at all and from what i read there new seige area is instanced. I think the days of seeing anything innovative in MMO is gone. I honestly believe the MMO as most of use know it from playing them 10+ years are beginning to face that MMO's of yesterday are all the same and not worth our time or money. We DON"T want more of the same and welll ROTLK is more of the same. |

In conclusion, the numbers show me: WoW is the best MMO now. (dot) But, you can play anything else, like me, i try in beta (and buy) AOC and WAR, and now i play Florensia (is free) You can try Florensia, and you will like it ! AOC = looks nice, but bored and i hope they will grow up WAR = a down grade copy of WoW and looks ugly (excuse me, but is a trash!) AION is my next option and i hope will be good as we can see on Youtube from Beta tests :) AION still remain an upgrade of L2 ( i have played from C1) with elements from WoW and a new game engine (looks nice). Games like SilkRoad and Florensia with item shop mall is a good strategy for the game owner, but for players is not fair. WoW have the best MMO game economy system i think, and from this reason worth to play! |

Lets just hope that their new attempt towards open world PvP is more fruitful than their previous ones. Unfortunately, I think that they are still shooting themselves in the foot from the get-go, when they put so much emphasis on the arenas and battlegrounds. |

For Death Knight pretty sure all you need is a level 55 any faction to make one on any server. Since now you are able to transfer PvE - PvP. I could be wrong about being able to create a Death Knight on any server, but i am certain you are able to though. |

In Nov ... most others will come home. Not everyone thinks like those forum guys at www.mmorpg.com Seriously, looking back I think the reasons why MMORPG's are being made these days is money greed. It's no longer a case of making good multi mass roleplaying games. Now every new launch is all about making a multi million dollars cash cow. : MMDCC's. Blizzard was trying to make a good online game for 300K-500K players and they stumbled - not even on purpose - on a gold mine. Hell, they even were thinking to make it subscription free in 2003. But since 2005, hell broke loose. Everyone sees the dollar signs and wants to have a part of the gold. Designers think up incredible ideas, financiers add TONS of money, complete websites support the hype (remember the AOC 9.4 reviews....), media campaigns are launched years in advance ... ... and then they come up with half arsed gameplay. EA had to have that 20% marketshare by year's end and everyone was focused, everything was in place... except it didn't happen. Reason is simple: players want to come home. Be it Wow, EQ2, LOTRO. It's their home, the place to go. If you don't agree, just see what happens in the next 6 weeks...

If you lose interest once you've "seen the entire game already" you will never find a place to settle, and I'm tired of game hopping I want to relax and just play one for a while, right now thats wow. And next week will be fun as hell. |

If I was going to play an MMORPG right now it would be WoW. I've played AoC and Warhammer. Both of them pale in comparison to making a game that feels somewhat like a world. Weather it be the smooth movement, animations, and combat or the fun artistic style or the ability to travel most places (even underwater) or the best PvE content in recent games sadly. With that said I am tired of playing the same style of game over and over again. It's great that people seem to be addicted to the point that they don't care they are repeating the same thing over and over again. Maybe it even relaxes these people in some way. I've been playing MMOs since Ultima Onine and Everquest. The game mechanics have become so standard in MMOs. You can almost see the developer intentions behind the game mechanics which is never a good sign. Someone needs to come out with a new strategy for making MMOs. |

Also you can make a death knight on the server you have a level 55 character and then transfer it over to a new server. I'm pretty sure you can do that right now. You might even be able to make a horde death knight even if you only have an alliance toon. Don't take my word for that though as I might be very wrong.
Hm I have a level 53 Warrior... how do you make a death knight out of one? |
