the truth is both of these games are good in thier own way .

warcraft offers decent pve and a nice game world .its a game i find i can switch to window mode chat to people on msn when i want to and relax . the battle ground pvp is fun . its a little slow to get into because you ll be questing most of the first month or so depending on how much you play . you ll get into a few instances and maybe get into a good low level guild . it will proberbly take you 3-4 months to get to the more interesting aspects of gameplay like pvp and high level instances .

warhammer offers action packed gameplay really from the first couple of days . its far more in your face than wow so its not really something you can play in window mode or travel around farming herbs for gold etc etc . but it must be played on a server with a good population . warhammer is unlike warcraft in that respect . it heavily relys on pvp . this means if you play on a low server your really going to have a dull experiance .

personally i like both depending on my mood .

warhammers one for people who like to slug it out . essentially its a constant battle  . warcraft is a very well realised virtual world with elements of pvp thrown in *mostly when you feel like it .

they are in fact equals in quality but are games that are at oppersite ends of the spectrum .

That was the 'theory' that was supposed to be true.  When I bought Warhammer, it was because I wanted more open world pvp and more of a 'huge battle' mentality.

But the reality of Warhammer is that most players do nothing but queue for scenarios while standing in their own villages.   Almost every time I ran through the RvR areas, they would be completely deserted.   Very very occasionally you could group with other players and actually run into an opposing player, but almost never did I group with players and run into another group of players.

Read the warhammer forums.. the word 'ghosttown' gets used all the time when describing the RvR areas.

In theory, what you wrote should have been true, but it just isn't happening ingame the way we expected.  Scenarios give too much renown and experience, so most players don't even waste time with the open world pvp.   It's also not likely to get any better.  Warhammer is bleeding subscriptions at about 15% per week.  The empty RvR areas are not going to be filling up any time soon.  The devs are working on server mergers, but they better come fast

Pre launch warhammer - everyone is complaining about wow and everyone is tired of that game, the masses wants something new!

Warhammer launch - everyone is playing warhammer like they played Wow, PvE grinding and waiting for scenarios to pop.

Post launch - bohoooo warhammer is nothing like wow, I am going back to wow.

Merging the server populations that are low low is not the answer.......the answer is for people to play the game in the way it was meant to be played!  Personally I blame WoW for this mass mentality of scenarios whoring and standing about waiting for your "Battleground"

A large number of players just don't "get" the whole RvR mechanic of the game, and "do what they know" instead.....hence t3 scenarios of about 5 or so, only being played within one of said scenarios.....let's hear it for lava toss fun fest!

SO many people whom have moved to War, and left too, tried to make it a game that it is not!  You cannot play Warhammer with the same mentality of most of the player base of WoW.

Agree, decent comparrison in theory, but, the comparrisons need to stop, heh.....as the two games have a totally different game mechanic in general.  Regardless of the aspects of gameplay in War to entice "other" MMO players to it's doors, the WoW \ War comparriosons are daft!

Better comparriosons would be, oh I don't know other RvR mechanic based games?!  Unfortunatley their aren't a whole lot, but DAoC (regardless of being a Mythic game) and Dark and Light (regardless of being a failboat) are MUCH better comparrisons in this regard.

OH, and if your a WoW player that mostly dooes Battlegrounds, and are bored with your MMO, unless you want to embrase teh WHOLE, please do not plague us here in War by joining the ranks of Scenario Whores, or if you do.....at least go run out and start a PQ grp while you wait, or something....

Mythic should implement a PQ for either side that basically dumbs down the camp guards in an area, and then you could have whichever side able to raid \ rush said "afk zones" and make them PvP open RvR as it were......lol, I bet the afk'ing waiting for queues issue would clear up with a quickness.

EDIT - Dammit Saurus you summed it up in a few sentences, bravo, lmao......

Anyone who remember the fun of Tarren mill, Hammerfall, and Crossroads know that BGs killed that sort of true large battle feeling.

but now there's Wintergrasp....  Hopefully it will bring back those times. And it actually got working sieges and air to air combat as well.

Not to mention D-day BG, even though it's a BG, it looks quite awesome.

In theory OP was right but the truth is, WoW is better on both remarks with the coming expansion, it's a shame because the PvP isn't quite what many really wish it to be (a little more focus would be nice).

But then we got Aion, it looks like it will have the real RvR feeling to it with the MASSIVE Abyss system.

If EA hadn't punted on RvR, then I may have agreed with you.

I said a month ago, the biggest mistake Warhammer made was to assume that players would put the progression of their realm over the progression of their character.

The assumption was that players would flock to the RvR areas so their side would 'win' the war.  But then they added scenarios which are much easier to progress your character in.  Players are mostly chosing to advance their own character and not worrying very much about their faction.

As much as you and I 'wished' that players would do RvR.. it simply did not happen, and is not going to happen.  I quit Warhammer in 2 weeks because scenarios=battlegrounds.  There is no reason for me to play Warhammer and do SCs when I can do them in WOW on my developed characters. (I also think WOW bgs are better than SCs).  In any event.. players like myself who tried Warhammer for RvR are going to be the first ones to quit... which means the players that stick around are going to be the ones who are happy queueing for SCs.

Now the question is.. will the Warhammer devs fix this any time soon?  I think the answer is in the fact that the Devs have announced that you can now queue for any Scenerio from any zone.  They are making it even EASIER to do scenarios.   They also tried to help RvR by increasing the exp by 20%.. but the problem with RvR was never EXP... it was diminishing returns.    If you ever do get a big fight going.. you end up getting NO exp after about 20 mins because of diminishign returns (killing the same players).

I think both are good games as well unlike certain fanboys and haters.

I really like warhammer PvP tho because of the keep sieges and open world RvR.

I'm post 40 and have never even stepped into a scenario for 2 weeks.  What do I do?  Form a warband, take keeps and objectives, fight the opposing realm in the 3 zones.

Warfare in Praag (a Tier4 contested zone) is awesome, the city is full of nicks and crannies to hide around.  It's a PvPers dream, you can bait them into your force or simply ambush them in the bridges, graveyards and around buildings.  It's RvR in a city environment that's loads of fun.

Dragonwake (Tier4 High elf zone) is beautiful with lush greenery and rolling hills to hide around.  Simply breathtaking.

Thunder mountain (Tier4 Dwarf zone) is full of mountains, rocks and lava, a harsh looking environment with lots of cliffs and lava to fight around.

Keep/Fortress attacking and defending is loads of fun.  Had a 45 minute keep defence today with a huge ton of destruction pouring in.  Repelled them 3 times with hot oil, siege weapons and AE til they finally overran us.

What's cool is there is a rivaly that builds up between the two factions which is inflamed by forum posts.  The high renown ranked people are often targetted first and dispatched.

From a post 40 on a high population server, Warhammer is a blast!

PS: Dev post said they are working to add tons of ORVR incentives to get people into open RvR.
