I am sure it is just me, but this recent influx of free-to-play anime games is almost irritating. Does anyone actually play them? I can understand like the Final Fantasy series, but when you look like Mario with a punk hairdo running through a land of 20 foot flowers, just takes away from the whole ideal.

I know some people love playing these games, but could we find out how many people actually do? I am probably way off base, and not trying to offend anyone, to each their own.

Just idle curiousity. :)

Would you ever play an anime-based MMORPG?

You're more worried about the graphics instead of the horrid gameplay/grind?

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Well, it is a complete package of disappointment. I mean, one of them has "Find your Soulmate" in its' ad. That's not mmorpg, that's a dating site!

Well, with the exception of the AAA titles such as Lineage 2 or Final Fantasy and the upcoming Aion (which is the only game I am looking forward to playing ) i woudl have to say no.

They all seem very junky and just made to soak money out of people until they can make new ones.

I realize there are some other more high concept games such as sword of the new world or maybe even Archlord.

but some of these really do seem very junky. When played side by side with Lineage 2 you can really feel the difference.

I know some people like anime.

However I have never seen the attraction of it.  When I see anime the first thing that crosses my mind is,  Get a haircut.

Reall I would rather have hot nails stuck in my eyes than to play any game that has anime.

I would play one if it was a AAA title and not that pay for items model that predominates those type of games.  If they made a regular MMO with an anime style thatI just played a flat monthly fee I would consider it if it had decent gameplay of course.

Lineage 2. Seriously.

It has some of the best gameplay mechanics in any game and it's beautfiul.

It's easier to level than ever before (though you aren't going to zip up to top lvl in 1 month) and the major part of the gameplay is player interaction.

It's different from other games in many ways but might be something to look into. Of course it is ffa pvp so if that isn't your thing then I say you should pass.

I guess my biggest problem, is that I have seen some flash games that have better content and thought behind them. They just seem like a huge waste of advertising space. IMHO, I would love to hear more about the AAA games on here than the 90%  of the info being ads for the newest Yu-Gi-Oh game (although my kids would probably that game MMO)

But see, that is a classic. I am talking about all the new bubble-gum wrapper games. The ones that the janitor makes in their spare time with an online "Make your own MMO now!" toolkit.

Well I wouldn't totally be against it myself. I don't know where this comparison of L2 and FFXI to anime comes from though. I watch a lot a anime and played both of those games extensively and don't seem the resemblance. I would however say I always saw a resemblance when it came to games like chrono trigger. If they made an MMO in the Chrono Trigger universe I would have to give it a try because that might possibly be the best RPG of all time or at least of that time.

It's not an MMORPG, but has anyone else seen the demos for the newest Prince of Persia that is coming out?  There is a definite anime influence this time, and it looks ridiculous.

It is much cheaper with anime models, because they are so basic. AAA titles like WoW, EQ2, and VG invest time in trying to make it as realistic as possible. Animes try to make it as cartoon as possible.
