I still look back fondly at CoH before ED. I played EQ before that and I never felt like my character was very powerful. CoH was completely fun and awesome. Too bad they never developed a real end-game. I agree with what alot of other posters have said though. "WoW is the most polished game ever" Most of my friends agree that WoW does nothing new but it does most everything "pretty well". PvE = pretty good, PvP = pretty good, Crafting = pretty good, and End-game = pretty good. Nothing outstanding but nothing seriously lacking either.

That would be the early days of Ultima onilne for me, until Tammel move changed all that. it just went down hill after that due in part to a load of bad choices from the dev team and half baked expansions. All you MMO players that cut your teeth on later MMO's and never played UO will never know how great it felt to have a thief class that actually was a thief and was a thrill to play. The best steal was a house key at a time when the Uo housing system had none of the ownership features it does now, it relied on who ever held the key was pretty much the house owner. So the house was mine when I stole the house key. I stole whole boats loaded with just loot in the hold just by pickpocketing the key. Whatever a player could put in theirbackpack it could be stolen in UO in those days. The thrill of snooping players packs around the banks as a GM snooper GM thief. I remember the rush it gave dong a steal on a players pack for a juicy item and getting away with it by then not noticing and shouting “Guard!” for the Npc guard to teleport in and kill me. The cat and mouse chases I had were times to remember. Teaming up with other thieves and working the bank crowds and other hunting spots. Ah, those were the days. |

EverQuest for me. It kept me playing for 8 years. Thinking back on the game, it really did a lot right and has had a great influence on the newer games. Sure there is a lot that can be improved on but it is what it is. Sadly I often think and wish I could go back but after all my friends that I played so long with quit, it just wasn't the same. No MMO since EQ has given me the great experiences that I had in Norrath. |

Runescape, hands down.
You may think that's its pure shit, and yeh It may seem like that at first, but after you've played it a bit and got into the clan world, you'll notice its greatness.
Clan world; thats the shit lol. I quarantee that Ill never again have the same feeling on a MMO that I had on 2002-2003 on Runescape; Sitting alone on my computer with headset on in darkness, waiting for another clan to come to fight and listening clan leaders advices.
I've tried alot of newer MMO's, at first I liked Guild Wars, Florensia, Perfect World etc, but after some time they all got boring. Prolly mostly cause I cant play 24 hours a day like some people do, and therefore its hard to for example PVP. |

Funny, most people reflect on older games as being the best and so many people have a "pre" in front of the game they like the most. I'm going to put EQ2 first, even after the changes they did. I really think there's a game that offers about anything a person could want, except a high population. System requirements of the time helped keep it from catching fire. Second would be pre everything SWG, I quit right before JTL because I saw the end coming or so I thought. Third is a big mix of games I've played that didn't stand out and a ton of others that I've watched others play. WOW and its worthless end game gets a mention from me - as long as it's pre BC. |

Originally posted by Koma /Signed EQ was hands down my best experience with an MMO. Of course back then I was like 16 (1999), and had infinite time to play. Now a days I enjoy WAR because it's so casual friendly and fun, but I still miss the old days of hearing "TRAIN TO ZONE!" and watching people run like hell with a train of reaper looking ghost baddies Ah the memories =P The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall. |

UO when it first came out was by far the best MMO ever of all time, no arguments. It was literally the definition of an open world of adventure with no levels. I miss it. I'll take a 2d freedom MMO with tons of players vs. any of the 3d games out these days. |

1) First 2 years of Ultima Online 2) EverQuest before the release of an expansion pack 3) Dark Age of Camelot before the release of ToA No MMO will ever beat the original Ultima Online. |

Best experiences: I would have to say EVE albeit it is not the one I have played the longest. Second best experience was from original Ultima Online. WoW prior to Burning Crusade was a solid game and is still a game I have probably played longest, but only because there really wasn't any serious alternatives at the time. Fondest memories: I have from Anarchy Online right before and after Notum Wars, it came more from social aspects than from the game itself. Biggest dissapointments: SWG and Age of Conan. Looking forward: Mostly looking forward to Bioware's MMO. Hopefully, it will bring something new to the genre. Star Trek Online - not really that high hopes for the game, but I will give it a try. Love the genre and series. Stargate Worlds - mixed feelings about this one, looks ok, but not sure it will have much depth.

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off. |

Hands down, Ultima Online. Only during the time frame of 1997-2001 ish then it started to get rediculous. WoW was good for about 3 months then I figured out that the only reason people play is to get uber gear and that the gear was extremely difficult and rare to obtain....lame. I am now playing WAR and loving it. Of course it has some gear-based tendencies like WoW, but it also has some good RvR which allows for guild and server pride and ownership of keeps which is pretty cool. I imagine when the Knights of the Old Republic game is released that will be my new favorite. Possibly Darkfall if it ever releases and isn't crap. |
