I'm thinking BG's in WoW, complete with gnomes spazzing out everywhere if Yoda's race is playable.

I hope to god there are no such things as BGs, I am fine with RvR though.  But I am not getting the game for pvp, im getting it for the PvE. 

Bioware has never made a game with PvP.  So far I haven't read anything saying that it will be included.  I hope it's not because then they can concentrate on making a great story instead of trying to make PvP people happy.  They would also have less to worry about in terms of class balance.  They would only need to balance for group PvE.

Exactly... however I would be getting it for the PvP, and ofcourse I'd want good PvE to complement it but mainly for the PvP :)

Well I honestly think PvP is a major pain in the butt to balance, but if they do it right... they are kings among men.

Also, you are wrong. Neverwinter Nights has PvP.

I wish developers would stop trying to fix what isn't broke by inventing obvious twists on what's been done. Each new set of rules seems more arbitrary than the last.

Asheron's Call solved the problem years ago by letting players flag themselves with a quest. You couldn't flag yourself on a whim or by accident, and once you became flagged you were more or less stuck with it. (I think there was also a quest to unflag, but it was nevertheless a Big Decision.) And then they had one free-for-all server for the people who wanted everyone vulnerable all the time.

People complain that PVP causes balance problems which drive the developers to screw up the PVE game, but this is only for fear of losing the PVP customers they wouldn't have otherwise, or because the developers are virgins who can't handle forum flames and believe they are representative of popular opinion. Open PVP doesn't need balance and you can't ever balance it because it's all about chance, unfairness, bitterness, revenge, and most of all comedy.

Bored FPS players don't understand any of those things and they have been dominating the conversation for too long.

I hope they'll let carebears be carebears and go ahead make the game for them. But let those of us who prefer fighting other players do so in that game without invisible forcefields, "supression gas," and omniscient guards, and especially without WoW and WAR's instant /pvp flagging with a 5 or 10 minute cooldown.

Ah the worst Bioware game ever made in terms of telling a good story and having companions.  The game survived only because of the toolkit which allowed players to make their own worlds.  Exactly why I would prefer them to concentrate on the PvE game.  If there is PvP I hope it is very secondary.  I never heard them mention PvP once in the video interview on gamespot though so I'm guessing it's not very high on their priority list.

if its pve only i wont even give it a second thought..i couldnt bring myself to kill 10 boars as a bounty hunter..this game needs to be a pvp game because its star wars and not raidwars.its jedi v sith v the grey inbetween, how can this not be pvp.. and as one poster said pvp is not supposed to be balanced, its a game of risk and chance. if you know the outcome between certain classes then why bother. oh and if there is battlegrounds i wont touch it.

I think we all need to keep in mind that TOP will be settled in around the time the jedi and the sith were duking it out. You also have the explosion of the greater war when galaxies were being brought under the control of the empire or remaining loyal to the republic. Conflict on certain planets is almost inevitable. Kashyyyk being a planet at the front of my mind when i think about "contested" areas.

To not have pvp in this game and have it at the forefront would be an atrocity imo.

I really don't think PvP is going to be the main portion of the game.  You can have the battle between the Jedi and Sith with PvE.  I don't mind if PvP is in the game so long as it doesn't detract from Bioware's main focus which should be PvE.  They have always focused first and foremost on storytelling and PvE in their games.  Once they get that portion done right then worry about letting the lightsabre battles begin.

I'm just hoping that there is a Bounty Hunter system that allows us to hunt other players.

and that it lets you choose who you can kill and not choose for you..this is essential in this new age of mmo's..give the choice back to the player. we have all had our hands held long enough.

I wonder if anyone has any information about this.  I've read the article posted 1up, I've read through the website, and I've watched the video at gamespot.  I haven't seen any mention of PvP or RvR though it's very possible that it exists.  Especially at engame when the story runs out.

they mentioned rvr in the 1up blog..and the game is set up for rvr with the two different factions and the factions within each faction..so i expect a game with great pvp and pve and no its not impossible to do.

So far WoW had good PvE, but not so good PvP.  War has had pretty good PvP, but not so great PvE.  I'd rather have the good PvE and OK PvP if there is PvP.

i am willing to bet that pve will be the main focus of this game, as it should. you will probably be disappointed if you want to play this game mainly for pvp, that is just speculation though.

Yeah I hope it's nothing like wow or all those other games. 

They need to come up with a new idea.  I personally think BGs in wow were the most retarded thing, maybe right after arena.  Here's a group of 10 people on each team and let them run at each other and kill each other....what a fun!

I love world pvp tho or as some people now call it rvr.  I hope this game has that in it :)
