Well my pc is 4 years old now and I am in need of an upgrade, im wanting to spend right around $1,000 for my rig . Ive spent hours figuring stuff out and reading up on things and this was the best possible build I could come up with for the money, what do you all think, and also do you think it will run almost all games on high/max settings now and  for a few years to come? thanks

Intel DP45SG Motherboard (crossfire ready so i can add another 4870 card later on)

DIAMOND 4870PE51G Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported

I would have went with a Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 Ghz over the Q6600 for gaming.

LOL at the mindless fanboyism.

For the price, ATI is the better deal.

I'd go with an e8400 also and fast DDR2.

Corei7 is coming soon.  Will be DDR3 only and we'll see new mobo's then- and soon after some lower latency DDR3, im sure.

Coolz

Why ddr3, is it worth the cost? (would have to change mebo also), i know you can buy cheap ddr2 thats fast and you can oc the processor hard son bring it up to at least 3.0ghz

DIAMOND 4870PE51G Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported

A great card , oddly CF often hurts it as much as helps it based on game, rez and config (somethign to ponder on, maybe that soem games are currently limited via cpu as 280 , 260 and 4870s act odd in dual card formats in some games).

get  a XIGMATEK HDT-S1284EE 120mm Rifle (air cooling but WORTH IT. lap it also)

Also note intel is releaseing a brand new arch the i7. Might want to look into this.

AS a quick note vid cares are odd atm , if i keep aa low or off or play at 1680x1050 i often will beat out the 2xx and 4xxxx , with a 8800gts 512 sli'ed on like 1/2 of the games in the last 2 years out there go figure.

REally try to save money when it comes to video cards. but the 4870 out preforms the 4850 very well (on some games not so much but on many many others it does).

c2 duos are better gaming cpus for most games , but i am crazy and runa  ton of apps and game so a quad was just nice for me. bubbping up my q6600 to 3.3 ghz with no stablity issues or heat , at lower than standard voltage made me quite happy also.

Thanks for the input, I may go with the core duo 3 ghz instead, ive heard alot of ppl say its good for gaming and i wouldnt be running all kinds of apps while gaming anyways. also i looked up the intel core i7 looks interesting would prolly be to $$$ when it first comes out anyways, but I saw in the wiki were it said they did achieve like a 6gb bandwidth difference with the core i7 setup versus the current quad core running ddr 3, so i guess it would be worth waiting and just going with fast ddr2.

The socket for the Core i7 will support only DDR3.  Its really the only type of memory that can be shrunk to a voltage low enough to keep within the specs.
