“The things you own end up owning you.” -Tyler Durden |
everything looks different from the movies. Stormtroopers dont look like STs from the movies, droids look totally different..... why did they feel the need to change everything? The new models look ..... alot less frightening and alot less realistic, i almost want to say they look like some generic "bad guy", almost childish. Anyone else have any comments on the screenshots from SWTOR?

Have you played either of the Kotor games? |

This.
The only thing we can compare is the two KOTOR games (set in the era)... Personally I do understand people's complain of graphic when it is compared to both KOTOR games, but I must say that I do like this different artistic feeling of it, howeve non-realistic it is. Although I would prefer a more realistic feel to it, I can accept their artistic direction as of now. Waiting: Star Wars: The Old Republic, FFXIV, Xenjo Journeys Online (Chinese MMO), Hero's Journey, Stargate Worlds, LEGO Universe, Earthrise, Warhammer 40k Online Current MMO: Aion, Champions Online Past MMO: SWG, Lineage 2, VCO, 9Dragon, SoF, Hero Online, RFO, PotBS, Perfect World, AoA, Cabal Online, Mabinogi, CoH/CoV, WAR, WoW, FFXI, Florensia Online, , TCoS, Dynasty Warrior Online (Chinese version), ESO, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine (Eng and Chinese) |

I feel the overall design is about 90% close to the look and feel of KOTOR. It is set 300 years past KOTOR as well. Plus I think if this is the end quality they chose this to ensure its ability to run on some older machines. I accept this and i am overall satisfied with the look. I just hope the purpose of these graphics aren't for an eventual console port (yes I know they said they are "side stepping" consoles). I can see these graphics working on a PS3 or XB360 though. One complaint I do have is the lightsabers are overly large and feel out of place. They may have done this to allow people to visually identify the type in game. This could be because certain LS may have different capabiliteis allowing for a pick your battle moment. Still it looks bad IMO. Many are already calling for redesign on official forum. Unless there is a real ingame mechanic where they look the way they do for a functional reason, I too want to see a redesign. To OP, as others have said this is not based on anything seen from the movies time line. It all takes place 3500 years before. Everything is going to look different even if in the end it functions the same. Just like in KOTOR. For me to agree with you it would depend on which version of SWG. In CU (started in CU) I was lost in the SWU. In NGE I felt like I was playing a console game. In fact SWG cured me of console games; even KOTOR. I still love KOTOR but I don't play it much any more. Before SWG I would play some of it at least once a week even if only for 15 minutes. Since 2005 I have only played some of it for maybe 10 hours total. I do not own any of this generation consoles and I don't care too. From here on out it is pretty much MMOs if I am gaming. Ah my favorite brain soup: cream of no where. What''s the matter kid, don''t you like clowns? |
I'm happy that the people who constantly cry about keeping the canon straight will have nothing to piss and moan about.

I think he is referring to diehard fans of the Star Wars IP. |

Good Lord, man! Haven't you people ever played World of Warcraft?! Big, fake, cartoony graphics that cater to 10 year olds are even more immersive than photorealism! It'll be great when we're all swinging our oversized lightsabers at droids with huge, over-proportioned heads and tiny bodies, swatting them to the ground in a splash of color and particle effects! WEEEEEEEEEE!!! |

I cannot say I really care for the concept art they have shown, but am very interested in trying the game. As for lore and canon, choosing the time frame they have gives them plenty of room for freedom. I will not bash the game over the graphics, since it is a long way from going live, and many changes will be made on all apsects of the game by then. All I can do is wait and buy a copy, then give it a try. |

When i first saw the screenshots... i was pretty surprised that they were going in that direction but i honestly have no problem with that. I just acnnot wait for the story line... and hopefully get some good jedi vs sith pvp action goin on! |

I thought the screenshots were fine I'm not a graphic artists so I guess it's why I am not so critical of graphics myself but I did want to point out to you that this game is set 3,500 years before the movies so you are not going to see alot directly from the movie I do think they did a good job of making content that looked like it came from the star wars universe so I'm guessing I'm mostly not in agreement with you.

yes but the design is even much different from the other two KOTOR games... i think that is why people are so surprised... |

I know what they mean. Cause 300 years ago things like armor and computers looked pretty much the same irl too. |
