How can you soar with eagles, when you work with turkeys.

The pics on TTH don't do the new zone much in the way of justice.  Here's a shot of the giant "Frost Father" taken by one of our guildies on the Test Server:

There's others on the internet too, including:

and

Btw, that's a third party UI he's using.

Is it just me, or does it look like a rehash of field of the dead?

Its not you.  It does indeed. It also looks like a drunken monkey took those shots.  When you realize that most of the far off places you see in those shots arent travelable area and that the zone will be like the rest of them, setting you on rails, its pretty much like ... YAWWWN.

what are you even talking about....

most MMO,s put up huge moutains to keep players on rails...AoC at least give you a realistic backdrop.

either way its the same, and its not any different from any other MMO. Vanguard being the exception.

anyhoo back on topic the zone fits the theme of the game looking forward to checking out the new areas when they open cancelled accounts one day

I think he's saying the zones in AOC are small, which I would agree with (though it never really bothered me). IN SWG for instance just about any mountain you saw you could climb, reaching a region border was a fairly long trek in that game.

Even compared to EQ2 the zones a fairly small in AOC. Again that's not a deal breaker for me, it's just the simple truth of the matter.

Technically you are correct. The point, however, is in how wide the rails are. I consider WoW to be a fairly limited (in terms of rails) because its small. And yet AoC felt even smaller and more limiting then WoW.

A huge and well balanced world is hard to make, thats why most of the MMOs have average to small world sizes. With this limit, every little square meter is worth a small fortune.

To be fair, I haven't really spend much time in AoC (played it in beta). So I dont know how big/small mid-high level zones are. Please feel free to correct/inform me of the tru scope of the world at the high end level.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I  agree. EQII and LoTRO both keep you on rails to a extent but AoC felt more like FPS rails to me. You could rarely ever leave the main path. By comparison LoTRO and EQII are almost like SWG...well that is bit of a exxageration but after 2 weeks of AoC it sure felt like it.

Field of the Dead is a good example on how all the zones should be. Other zones just seem too small for me.
