I did not want to marry AOC, though I did hope to have a long and wonderful relationship with this game. Now that being said, as it is in every relationship, you can only take being lied to so many times. June of this year she promised me PVP, June came and passed and then she changed her target date to July, but after august came and passed I pretty much had figured out that she was cheating on me with a guy name ERLING or something like that and they were eating and drinking merrily off my credit card.

3) Then she stops taking your phone calls. Well we've all been there, the sad lil place you arrive at in a relationship when you aren't quite sure its worth giving up on and you try to reason with her, at which point her annoying bitch friend named Jenny steps in and starts answering the phone and hanging up on you.

This is roughly the same thing that took place in Age of Conan. Now taking into account that Erling Ellison or whatever the hell his name is looks like his chances of getting any action outside the bounds of the red light district hover somewhere around that of the pope converting to ISLAM. They chose to turn to the community to be their lil JENNY FRIEND and convert what was left of the FANBOIS into devoted and misguided Conan Nazis patrolling the forums with all the zeal of good little facists and all the power of a paid funcom employee.  Banning anyone that DARED speak the truth of what was actually going on in the game and with the development arc.
 

I do expect that at some point AOC will come crawling back to me via email, begging me to come back and give the NEW HER a shot again. She will talk of the old times we had together and try to suck me into yet another round of female induced hysteria.  She will promise the world and in the end I will remember being banned from the forums and remember that I hate that bitch JENNY so much that nothing short of giving me a Mercedes could make me want to endure the treatment I suffered from the JENNIES of the forums and I will promptly HANG UP on FUNCOM.

Most of the features on the BOX at LAUNCH, could you explain what feature's are on the box and are not ingame, okay I give in on the DX10 thing, but aside from that which are those MOST feature's you are refuring to, I only have the regular box but could find any feature noted that I didn't see in game, but when I see someone say MOST I asume that person must have a different box then I have? And lets be realistic and not speak about media cause anyone who is experiance in this genre who still falls for hype must still believe in Santa.........have you seen the Star converence speech, well I wonder how many % will be left in the actual game as no way they will be able to pull of what they say, it's like with about every game ever made there always'be games that people will dislike for numerous reasons, AoC has it issue's, but sorry which MMORPG is so perfect, look at WOW's tech forums, people are still crashing, getting bluescreens and what not and many of you feel WOW is the best there is yet ignore it has similar issue's you keep hokking onto AoC.

Oh and incase you wonder....NO I aint playing AoC anymore, since a couple of weeks.

Well among other things - the crafting system - the client crashing - the pvp system that I hear tell was implemented YESTERDAY? Among other things... oh yea - Content past level 50 being thing, dungeon raids being utterly borked, falling through the worlds after leaving the cistern.... Performance issues: mainly AOC never using more than 35% of ONE of my gpus to say nothing of it completely ignoring the second cards ram and gpu or existence. ( some the the video problems are vista issues) Which I chose to install on the new system I built for AOC because they hyped the HELL out of it being a DIRECT X 10 game. I could go on - but after a while, beating a dead horse is just ugly, messy and an utter waste of time.

Funny post.  Very nice job.

I quit after about 2 weeks.  I just got fed up with all the problems, and frankly was kind of bored.  I mean there is something about the game that is just plain boring.  It could be the combat, it could be all the instancing...whatever.  I still maintain that reading about the games downfall is more entertaining than playing the game.

A friend of mine is still playing AoC becase the most important ascpect of an MMO to him is Role Playing, which I guess is good in AoC because the game looks very good and It's art style is very realistic (as opposed to cartoony like WAR or WoW).  So in keeping with the metaphore here, all he really cares about is a nice rack.  All the lying and nazi's mean nothing to him because the rack is all that matters.

Technically, I think he is right.. the only thing not in the game that is on the box is dx10.

PvP was in the game at launch.  You could kill other players which is pvp.   OF course there is absolutely no reason to do it

Dungeon Raids were in the game at launch.  Sure, you couldn't kill bosses without exploits, but that is besides the point

There were certainly 10,000 pieces of armor in the game, of which about 100 were available for player

There were stats in the game.. you could easily raise any stat you wanted.  Of course it had no effect at all on your character.

Seiging was in the game at launch.  Of course battlekeeps were unconqurable.. but that doesn't mean you couldn't spend hours trying.

As for WOW, I can say this in all honesty I never had more than tertiary issues with this game and my system. It ran wonderfully and the third gen PC I had when I bought the game.... Thats two builds ago.. I got bored with WOW after two years and simply chose to leave.... Playing a game for two years is a good run and a completely satisfying one... I would say I never felt like I was swifted or lied to by blizzard, save for the detailed ideas I had about the class changes, but most of that was my take on what they had said and I was able to see past that and find things in the game to do that still enterntained me.... For years this was the case....

With AOC I started at launch and the pre launch was a fiasco, being that the dates you registered the numbers given to you, which I had though Guaranteed access, determined weather you actually got the early start date.... Which meant I couldnt game with my housemate. Then after just a few hours I began to notice the client wasnt stable enough to play for more than a couple of hours before crashing. Then I noticed that others were having the same problems and randomly dropping from the group, only to relog and find they couldnt see the group members or had been logged into a new instance of the game, requiring more tedium and nuisance group remaking than I cared to bother with at the time. 

At this point I really began to see that the entire world is instanced, who ever though this one up should be taken out back and shot.  I mean talk about removing immersion from the game at the games very heart, the world you inhabit..... Anyway the problems go on and on and on and on - the fact my housemate is female and chose to play a female assassin and was therefore unable to match the attack speed and damage of her male counterparts in the game without any side BUFF in agility or anything for having chosen to be female.

The trader : do I have to even go here? The game has and had no economy, none.  Wow had a smoking economy as I remember it... and a functioning AH interface - AOC does not - search for any gems lately?

The grey mob boss tweak: to avoid gold farming they made grey mobs scale to your level.  This means any feeling advancement in the PVE side of the world is instantly and FOREVER removed.

I mean just about everything they did to the game in terms of patching just served to bewilder or anger me.

Then I got to the forums and began posting about any one of the above mentioned topics and began to find my posts removed, moved, or out right deleted. Sometimes just my responses were removed from a particular thread.  Then I began to notice that funcom, in its infinite wisdom, had decided to make average players with a particular love for the game, moderators on their forums.  Now Im subjected to someone just like me, not being paid, but inflicting their derision on those that chose to complain.

So youll have to excuse me if I feel like AOC closely mirrors any of the failed relationships Ive had in the past.  Even my female housemate agrees with this article, and believe me she was PISSED about the female attack speed issues!

1) Most of the features on the BOX at LAUNCH, not to mention those features touted, in numerous ads in print, audio, video and every other form of ad spam possible, by the developers were not in the game. Many are not in the game TODAY, this very moment youre reading this article. And probably wont be when you happen across this article in say december of this year or even march 2009 for that matter. This is roughly the same as the first time you get to see the girl youve decided to date without makeup.  At this point youre a lil shocked but you know her and she is familiar and youve already moved some of your stuff to her hourse or vice versa.  Roughly the same way we all felt as we began to notice that AOC was not what they had been promising us all along. However, some of us had purchased new PC's, upgraded old ones, or spent alot of time telling our buddies how HOT our new game was to be able to admit to ourselves that the game flat out sucked and we couldnt live with her anymore.

2) After the bait and switch there are PROMISES. Now there are promises one makes for life, like for example, getting married. I did not want to marry AOC, though I did hope to have a long and wonderful relationship with this game. Now that being said, as it is in every relationship, you can only take being lied to so many times. June of this year she promised me PVP, June came and passed and then she changed her target date to July, but after august came and passed I pretty much had figured out that she was cheating on me with a guy name ERLING or something like that and they were eating and drinking merrily off my credit card.

3) Then she stops taking your phone calls. Well we've all been there, the sad lil place you arrive at in a relationship when you aren't quite sure its worth giving up on and you try to reason with her, at which point her annoying bitch friend named Jenny steps in and starts answering the phone and hanging up on you.

This is roughly the same thing that took place in Age of Conan. Now taking into account that Erling Ellison or whatever the hell his name is looks like his chances of getting any action outside the bounds of the red light district hover somewhere around that of the pope converting to ISLAM. They chose to turn to the community to be their lil JENNY FRIEND and convert what was left of the FANBOIS into devoted and misguided Conan Nazis patrolling the forums with all the zeal of good little facists and all the power of a paid funcom employee.  Banning anyone that DARED speak the truth of what was actually going on in the game and with the development arc.
 

I do expect that at some point AOC will come crawling back to me via email, begging me to come back and give the NEW HER a shot again. She will talk of the old times we had together and try to suck me into yet another round of female induced hysteria.  She will promise the world and in the end I will remember being banned from the forums and remember that I hate that bitch JENNY so much that nothing short of giving me a Mercedes could make me want to endure the treatment I suffered from the JENNIES of the forums and I will promptly HANG UP on FUNCOM.

If this is the sort of MMO experience you are seeking - HAVE AT IT - but you wont even respect yourself in the morning.

Entertaining read but I have a questions if you don't mind.....

1. Most of the features on the BOX at LAUNCH, could you explain what feature's are on the box and are not ingame, okay I give in on the DX10 thing, but aside from that which are those MOST feature's you are refuring to, I only have the regular box but could find any feature noted that I didn't see in game, but when I see someone say MOST I asume that person must have a different box then I have? And lets be realistic and not speak about media cause anyone who is experiance in this genre who still falls for hype must still believe in Santa.........have you seen the Star converence speech, well I wonder how many % will be left in the actual game as no way they will be able to pull of what they say, it's like with about every game ever made there always'be games that people will dislike for numerous reasons, AoC has it issue's, but sorry which MMORPG is so perfect, look at WOW's tech forums, people are still crashing, getting bluescreens and what not and many of you feel WOW is the best there is yet ignore it has similar issue's you keep hokking onto AoC.

Oh and incase you wonder....NO I aint playing AoC anymore, since a couple of weeks.

A working PVP system for a game that was touted as GROUND BREAKING PVP, hell even today the second half of the hastily tossed together AFTER LAUNCH PVP system isnt in the game.... Need I say more?

Any game with these features are supposed to mean four key things

Well - I played my "Jenny" part and sent a complaint to www.gamesforwindows.com stating that as a "Usually very satisfied MS customer I failed to comprehend HOW ON EARTH they could endorse a product such as AoC" as it clearly failed to live up to at least 2 of the four key things...

Mysteriously AoC disappeared from the frontpage focusarea of www.gamesforwindows.com and can now only be found by a search.

Oh - If you DO play Jenny and find the right address at MS you will get a nice and polite email that (between the lines) explains why they do not (and in the future will not) endorse AoC

From the gamesforwindows site: Funny when I click on the ATI Graphics card link it takes me to an article about an NVIDIA 9800 card. And dude AOC is there at the bottom of the page on the left to be clicked on, albeit its very small and just type now.

Funcom really did a lot of damage to its reputation and I doubt we will see another release from this company.

Yes actually, "ground breaking PVP" that's your best example of lying? I mean is PVP xp, or the act of pvping itself ? Were they referring to multiple styles of PVP? This is marketing man realize these are words thrown together intended to sell a product. The message isn't intended to be honest telling you "hey were no better than anything else out there". You also can't forget, everyone knew the PVP system got put on the back burner. 

As an example lets use WAR and their current marketing for RVR. Is it truly RvR at this point, or is it faction PVP? It could be argued it's factional warfare. That's because the actually RvR got cut, yet the marketing didn't change. Why would it, it's whole purpose is to make you believe they're offering you something extraordinary.

Stick to the facts about the game itself or the dev's own admissions, to point out where they screwed up. There's nothing more damning than when you damn yourself, and everyone sees it. Missing content admissions, not so stable code admissions, lack of foresight admissions, servers need merging admissions etc...

When they are saying it themselves there's no disputing it.

I think sometimes that you are just out there man, I mean the post about sony making it ok for Funcom to act this way and you claim I damn myself? Dude seriously.

We arent discussing war first of all and certainly not on some tertiary basis about weather its RVR or not.  Realm Versus Realm is just that.   We all know that tons of things were left out of the game and you even posted a huge article about the release of this game sucking and now youre here to question me? Seems a little odd... A LOT odd in fact.
