well it seems all the other communitys together finnaly managed to dethrone Darkfall and dehhype it with a 1.

Doesnt matter much anyway , its releasing end this year anyway.

I take comfort that Darkfall community is larger than any other developping game and has managed to withstand the tide of dehyping for so long,

And with atlantica online , a turnbased mmo on top , i al highly doubting the effectiveness of the hype meter.

Then again it is a highly activre political climate.

I want DarkFall to release, however, I highly doubt it will be this year. They STILL haven't started beta and it's halfway through October. Best case Q1 09.

OP is right thou its pretty obvious what ppl are doing.

Actually if you take all the polls in about a day you could probably get to elite member with 5 posts.  Then there's posting in subfourms which sometimes seem to be worth more shinies.

Basically there are a lot of things that earn shinies on the website.

I got to Elite with only a few posts. It was only after I passed the 100 mark that I got hit with ther nerf bat.

Which will come first? Darkfall or Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy?

That comment is so far fetched, that the absurdity of such a statement made me laugh.

Where is the promised beta for October?  Yep, still missing in action.  Just like all their other beta announcements.  It really amazes me the naivete of some people when it comes to some of these indy firms.  They promise the world and have not yet delievered anything close.

They have not even let a magazine review it, so we at least know the game exists and is playable.

When we get confirmation from a reliable source that such a game does exists and is in a beta state, then you might be able to talk about a year end release.  At this point talking about any release date is laughable.

Another shining example of the DF community.

I thin kDf will beat CD, because people have actually played it, it is genuinely being developed. nobody is yet to hear CD, some 'leaks' that didnt even have axel singing on them, but some other guy (or god wtf happened to his voice even more!) and they were shit anyway.

Chinese Democracy has got to be THE BEST album EVER or im actually going to find AR and punch him, like many I guess!

Darkfall catches a lot of shit, but you have to at least give those guys credit for having some ambition.  The biggest ambition of most MMO developments is, apparently, just to sell as many copies as possible.

I understand what OP is saying about the hype/de-hype.  I've been watching it happen for Aion for a while.  There will be lots of posts from people who have just joined and have only posted 2 times.  Then, they get enough posts to hype and they hype it to a 10.  Everytime I've seen another game get to the top spot, it sinks fast only to have Aion rise up again.  De-hyping for sure.  There's no way that many people like that game (although it seems to have gone down in hype a bit over the last few weeks).

Fact is, so many people have their favorite game and don't want the others to get good attention.  Doesn't make sense to me as these boards probably don't convince many people to buy a game or not.

Most of the times, it's from people that are associated with some god aweful asian MMO. Yesterday, Atlantica online was first, and today there's another isometric asian mmo in the first 5 places.

Beta started in September....

While i do not support OP's conspiracy theory, I don't think it's really that worse than the claim that Darkfall supporters make alts at mmorpg.com day and night to dehype other games, a claim a lot of people i see here supported.

DF probably won't even go live in 2009 if they do thorough testing, or near the end of Q4. To expect much from them is ludicrous considering their track record.

As far as rankings, sometimes people's post count just vanishes. I know I had a lot more than I do over the years, although I'm not a huge poster (only while I am at work, hehe).  Supposedly there is a beta going on now, but I find it hard to believe no one is leaking anything, especially since the game has been promising the world for like 7 years. You would think a few people would at least say "Hey, there really is a beta and I'm in it, and it is awesome, or is a pos". Maybe there have been and I just missed it, lol. Also, I would think DF would allow some leakage just to confirm a game does exist and have people actually interested in the game.

Aventurine are masters of inventing different sorts of "beta's" - my favorite is when they said they would start beta in 2006, and when it didnt happen they said: Oh we did indeed start beta, but we meant "internal beta".

And its abit the same with "hardware testing beta".

Beta hasnt started yet, noone outside Aventurine and their close friends have played the game.

But that will all change in a few weeks. I dont believe they would go on national tv and state its being released in 2008, if they weren't 100% sure.

It doesn't really matter at this point, not like it really matterd at all. The fact that those not interested in playing DarkFall constantly troll here and try and convience others the game is Vaporware or that it will fail for what ever reason and never present anything remotely close to evidence to back there statements up is an indicator there worried DarkFall will take players from there games of choice.  They also would not be so worried about dehyping it that they continously make new alt's to do so if DarkFall was truely as bad as they claim. To prove this point I will ask a simple question.......

If they truely believed DarkFall to be as bad as they have claimed, that it was Vaporware or that it is destined to fail..... then why exactly are they trying so hard ?
