I have played this game for about 1-2 weeks now and I am blown away by the game mechanics in this game. This game has the same graphics as “Lost planet” on Xbox360(which is unbelievably good) and looks absolutely fabulous. Game animations are so smooth as well as the atmosphere and the music just totally suck you into the game. Besides this your character can do so much more than what I have seen in other MMO's. Let me explain. In WOW you can ride a Wolf for example but you can not do any tricks or attack with it mounted. In AoC you can pull your horse up on the rear legs, you can attack with hoofs, you can rear kick. Same thing with the Mammoths, you can slam people to the ground, you do structural damage to buildings. I could keep going, but I hope I am getting my point across. The world just seem so much more alive and you can actually use the world more to you advantage, like throwing yourself behind a pillar to avoid getting shot. In WOW that arrow would just go straight through the pillar. I like this. Good stuff. I will keep this post running and give more updates later.

1-2 weeks of playing and you've already made 68 posts totally hyping the game.

Let us know how you like things after tortage.  Everyone loved the game the first 2 weeks, 90% quit by the first 2 months.

i quit the first time at level 30, it was like hitting the proverbial brick wall. I am playing this again to give it another try, as well as feed my pve addiction, while war has my pvp addiciton. Got a level 25 hox and 22 assassin.....though i am coming up to the wall again.....and am scared!

There's plenty to do at 30, 55+ is where the wall hits. Though Ymirs pass is set to hit fairly soon, it's on test at present (55+ zone). Out of curiosity what server are you on? The only reason Is stopped playing for the second time was because Deathwhisper was feeling a little deserted, hows the population on your end?

Hehe.. Sorry.. I made many of those posts before joining AoC. Have also posted quite a bit on other boards. I have a LotRO on order in fact (even though it probably will sit on the shelf for a good while).

But please comment on my mainpoint in the post. The world itself seem so alive in that walls are actual walls and will protect you from projectiles, horses can do real horsestuff (havent checked the crapping yet, but will), Somebody hit you really hard you will fly back, and so on. I like this very much, what about you guys?

The wall wasn't around the the early 30's but in the late 40's, well i hit the wall back then around level 48, i was playing with friends pretty much all the time, i guess doing the grp quests does a lot, not to mention sanctum of burning souls, beside that place being godly just by the entrance the inside was really nice as well.

I'm liking it so far again, i've rerolled on a pvp server, was on a pve server at start, the whole place is quite different, always on your toes, ready to jump, should someone attack, when you think about it, it's just like the lore of Conan.

But somehow it's not the same without the usual friends you played the game with.... The game feels like the conan adventures, a little lonely, then you get a duo, perhaps even a trio running but it seems like both keeping theconan feeling to the game, yet also not really feeling like a mmorpg.

But many things have improved that i'm thankful fore....

Imo levels 38-48 in Fields of the Dead are the best Aoc has to offer. It's all downhill from there.

I just resubbed due to WAR failing imo.  Games great fun and what not.  Lots of fixes I couldn't even play before (due to a driver support problem ) but, that was fixed and now I'm surprised how great this game runs and looks compared to WAR.  I'm lvl 33 and having fun with pve and a great guild that's been helping me out.  If anyone wants to resub and/or reroll,   roll on Scourge and /tell Valdr.   I'll get u in a great guild and a great community.

No worries.  I'm just a little critical.  Also one of the reason myself and a lot of people are mad about the game is because of the huge dropoff in gameplay after the first few weeks.   Funcom kinda tricked us by letting us see that content and making us believe the rest of the game was like that.

I think you spend more time posting about how great this game is instead of playing the game.

Reminds me of...wargpest and some others come to mind. Post a TON ...must not be playing to much with the amount of time you guys spend posting. I think you came from the forums along wth some others when warg got on the AOC boards and started (or tried) a player PR campaign to hit here and other forums with hype and mass GREAT news type posts to combat the other 90% of the gameing population that think the game still sucks. <---true story btw not making that up ,  I could search and link it but that would require some sort of care factor.Sorry

Ever hung out with some gamers? Talking about AoC the way you guys do would get you laughed outta the group.

Look I don't know what happend to you down the road and I don't want to know either. I know one thing though, I never did anything to you so please cut back on the hate. If you want me to post less here, I have good news I will probably start posting in www. ageofconan.com very soon as it looks like I will stay with this game for a while..

@ Pezzbomb: Glad to see you're enjoying the game Pezzbomb, hope you're finding all the interesting things AoC has to offer!  I also enjoyed the overall environment and how breaking line of sight affected the battles in positive ways.

@69Cuda: Warg has a current endeavor underway to have official AoC forum go'ers visit this forum, under the premise that this forum does not accurately represent the AoC community.

Keep us apprised of your progress on this endeavor Wargpest, as your honest and objective views on AoC are refreshing and provide a much needed balance to these forums:

Wargpest:

Some of the first places MMOers look to find out more about Age of Conan before potentially buying it or resubscribing is MMORPG.com. The only sad thing about this forum is that very few people that actually play AoC visit those forums, so you can imagine how outdated and trolled that forum is. It is impossible for a person to i.e. ask "People that play AoC, what is your honest opinion about it?" before pre patch 2.0 guys, trolls, WARbois and others that have this very twisted urge to talk this game more down in the dirt than it deserves jumps onboard and start to abuse the poor guy. I post over there like 3-4 times a week, try to help out, gave a buddy key etc... And I have gotten a lot of thanks from the posters till now, but you can only do so much. That forum need more actual AoC players to update the MMO cummunity outside AoC about the real condition of this game. That's my thought on this. Have a look, an actual AoC players comments would make a world of difference in that AoC forum which is interfacing the MMO community outside AoC.http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/forum/593

My subscription for WAR runs out very soon and I have no intention of continuing with it. Its just so simplistic and boring that I can barely feel any enthusiasm for logging in. It was fun for the first few weeks though so I guess it wasnt a total waste of money. The RvR aspect of the game (the main appeal for me) is pointless though and as you already know scenarios make it even more irrelevant. The fact that the game was released without a proper chat channel to communicate with your realm mates was ridiculous beyond belief! How could they release an mmo with such a basic feature missing? They only just added it into the game because so many players complained about it. What a joke!

Anyway I have never played AoC largely because of its shaky beginnings but to be honest its actually looking to be a hell of a lot better than all the competition at the moment. It appears to have the best graphics and atmosphere for an mmo and lets face it ALL mmos are pretty rubbish to play (click the same buttons in a rythm and repeat) so basicly visuals, sound and atmosphere = illusion of immersion which is the main strength of an mmo.

So I wrote down that server name and your character name for when I get the game. Expect a hello from me some time in the future

Consider to drop by Scourge too. I'm there and have just started a guild with my 80 lvl alts and about 35 friends. My 80 Lvl alts have been saving on a lot of their blue stuff and a couple of purple as well so it's well worth it. . Guildbank looks good.

A lot of people like to use the term brick wall, when they describe reaching level 50 in AOC. It seems conversation here hit a brick wall back in may. We just can't move past it, we're stuck there's no moving forward (here).

I'm right behind you man, I've been here three years went through the whole nge fiasco on this very site . I just feel all reasoning has gone from the discussion here lately. The only thing anyone cares to discuss are the negatives of a video game. When was the last time you saw a thoroughly positive discussion? It's been quite some time for me, I think it was in like 2003.

A lot of people don't even discuss issues anymore, they simply bash anything and everything said. Doesn't matter what it is (freeman threads are a prime example). I don't know what happened in the last few days I just realized I was done with it (soon to be anyway). It's a shame (to me) I used to love this site.

the only good thing i can say about this game imho is the graphics. i thought the graphics were outstanding and had really nice detail. i had a level 80 ranger and a 67 barb. i never understood where people had this problem leveling in the 50-80 range. there was definitely some grinding to be done and if you hated that then you were in trouble. i stopped playing due to the fact once you hit 80 you couldnt really do anything else other than PvP. raids take 24 people and getting that many people together took forever. once you did get it together it was pretty fun.

I don't know if this is  post against funcom or not but

Failcom hasn't been in exsitance for about 1.5months now. People wouldn't knwo that if they would look at the patch notes and read the dev responses on the AoC forums.

So basicly the ONLY thing you liked about about the game was its graphics and yet you played it all the way through to the end once and then nearly did it all again a second time with another character. Yeah....ummm.....the game must have been terrible to play right?

You stopped playing because you had effectively "completed" the game and there wasnt much to do except fight other players and do raids (which were fun when they happened). How exactly is that different to any other mmo then? There isnt anything interesting to do in any of them either.

Why cant people just treat these mmos for what they are. They are just computer games and once you have played it through to the end then you have effectively "beaten it" just like you would have in any single player game......because mmos pretty much follow the same game design. I dont hear people moaning about lack of end-game content in single player games. They just accept that the game is over and either (a) stop playing it (b) play it again with a new character or (c) go and do something else. An mmo is only ever going to have a limited amount of content to keep a player occupied. They are NOT an alternate world to live in for years no matter how much you would like them to be.

No amount of patching will change history. FC failed big time, so Failcom is here to stay. It's a lesson learned to all developers and investors around the world.

OP: Sounds like you only like conan based on the absolutely superficial aspect of it. Graphics, music, something about a night elf on a flying thing.

What about the game itself?

I beta tested, bought, in the end it was just pretty graphics and sound.

Some of the gameplay I experienced:

Invisible walls
Tons of instancing
Not enough encouragment to play with others
Crappy loot, crappy interface

Really, overall, lack luster.

Seriously, everquest1 did a better job at less instances.

UO didn't even have instances and it came out in 97.

I'm no forum troll, but I was seriously bored with conan in about 2 days.

Oh and it only looks good with dx10. Lame.

But hey, you like it, thats great.

People can try and sell AoC all they want.  But in many ways it is the worst MMO out there.  Obviously the graphics and music is great.  But the core element of what makes an MMO fun?  Items?  Raids?  Advancement?  Crafting?  AoC is the worst new MMO out there.

Yes, they should just forget the for graphics for a moment and look at the core of the game. Graphics are nice at first but if the gameplay sucks, the game is doomed to failure.

I've played better F2P games.

Well I don't agree on that. I think AoC is fun. And by the way the graphics game engine as well as the most basic comat systems are the core of the game. If FC want to add more gear, tweek crafting, add another consequence system, they can do all that on a patch. What never can be changed is the game engine. And I really think FC did the groundworks very well.

Instancing isn't bad in of itself, but I understand why people were "turned off" by it. The reason AoC is instanced is because of its graphics. Remember how bad the game would lag in sieges were during the first month an half. Imagine if the entire game was like that. Rather have less people in a zone with no lag than as many people in a single zone as possible with shutter frame game play. I would like to see all the load scenes removed from the game if possible though, but I'm willing to deal.

I don't know of these invisible walls you are speaking of, unless you are talking about areas that we can't get to because they aren't in the game yet or not being able to completly scale a mountain, which has been my exp in every game.

Never understood the UI argument, then again I've always used a mod.

There is plenty of encouragement to play with others since the exp gained in groups is higher than during solo play. Also the best gear at any level is only attainable by grouping together especially with more gear BoPed after the June updates.

Whenever I hear someone complain about looting I either believe that person means loot doesn't look cool enough, which is true, or that gear doesn't make a huge difference, which is also true. However, both are getting changed, although I don't think gear should ever be greater than skill. I hate it when games make gear mandatory to access content because you can't, literal, do it without the proper armor. I hope they don't take the WoW or WAR route with gear because that will completly ruin PvP.

All that aside, the game has a good core that continues to impove in leaps and bounds with the major patches. By x-mas most of what people complained about, execpt maybe Dx10, will be in the game.
