WOW is now closing in on nearly 4 straight years of being the most played game on Xfire (daily count).  Because of the patch today.. it's likely that after 1250 straight days.. the streak could end.

not that it matters though LOL

Just goes to show you that WoW has to take a day off for someone else to win a day.

Yep, Call of Duty got close a few times on normal Tuesday Maintenance days.. but I'm thinking this extended downtime will push them over the edge.

God forbid WOW drops below Warhammer for a day... we'll never hear the end of it... haha.

I take this as undeniable truth that World of warcraft is dying  (/sarcasm)

Age of Conan               4,818 hours logged.

How is it that WOW can have 14 hours of downtime and still post those number compared to the other mmorpgs?

In any event, the 3+ year streak is over.  WOW lost the top spot for a day.

It was "Beaten" by a free to play FPS... not the same category of games imho.

Just list by games you pay to play, are persistent, etc... then the streak continues.

That is forever gone :)     I wasn't trying to say anything bad about WOW (my favorite game).  I was just saying that because of the patch,  a little bit of history was lost LOL

Well Azrile, I am NOT thrilled with the patch either.

Oh the content is rather good.

Graphics update is NOT good. They upgraded it and this is the first time I feel a lost connection with my Avatar. Blame it on the morons who kept asking for graphic updates. And the kind of developpers who don't realise you can't have FPS graphics in MMO's. But Blizzard gave (a liitle) in and that's just sad.

Long live Nintendo who showed the way: gameplay primes graphics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second remark: the combat in PVP. Two possibilities here: OR they tested the new talents purely on lvl 80 characters, OR they just touched the feeling of that high quality PvP tactical combat where everyhting fell into place. And this is the first feeling I had since 3.5 years of playing. Ok at level 80 everyone has double health, perhaps that's just it. But they shouldn't have launched the patch in talent setting than.

Well it's back into number one on Xfire.....

But Azrile, to me it is a sign nothing lasts forever and IF WOW dies, it will have nothing to do with a Wow killer, it will all depend on Blizzard. And sorry, for the moment this patch needs a LOT of tweaking and they only have less than 4 weeks.

Now let's hope they don't add "joining BG's from everywhere" and "XP only through PvP", because that would put it on hold for me (a long term fan of the game).

The extra graphics options are completely optional btw, you can no longer run WoW at max with dozens of people on the screen on a 4 year old PC.  Well, you can, if you're one of those wierdos who don't seem to mind playing at 5 frames per second in raids etc,  (eq2 and Aoc players spring to mind), and actually think it's smooth.

You also have to take into account how many people are actually playing WoW.

.. isn't it like 10 million or something??

So, it 25% of the population has Xfire..  Then the number alone is higher than most other games have subs... So.. technically they already have a huge advantage (which is why the next closest is like 10% of the hours logged in WoW).. Just something for you to think about.

Don't say 'nothing last forever' and try to imply that WOW actually really fell as the most played game.  This one day drop was because the game was down for over half the day.   The patch itself didn't cause people to hate the game so much they stopped playing.

And the addition of 'queue from anywhere' is great for WOW.   It didn't work in Warhammer because it made it to convienent to level in scenarios as compared to RvR.  RvR is non-existent in Warhammer because of it.  The same problem doens't apply to WOW.  Also, no game (that I know of) has XP only through pvp.  WOW said they are considering a system to allow players to get more exp from BGs then they currently can.  They've also said that the exp would be optional (save the twinks).

Also I laugh at your comment about graphics.  First, they did a very minor upgrade to shadows.. that is all that you will encounter with the 3.0 patch.  And you can turn it off.  They also increased the graphics in Outlands (which nobody can get to yet).. but the upgrade is mostly through optimization, not higher system requirements.   The 'recommended' system requirements for Wrath are still from 2 year old computers and the 'required' system requirements are from commodore 64s  LOL

Who the hell plays CoD4 more than WoW? Thats spray and pray game is good?
