MMORPG.com EVE Online Correspondent Andrew Wallace writes this new article giving players some tips on either destroying a pod or surviving a pod attack in CCP's EVE Online.

Consider the humble pod. This unimposing egg may not look like much, but it contains your character, or their current clone at least, and its destruction can be terribly frustrating, even without a head full of expensive implants.

Losing your pod means a trip to the medical centre to buy a new one, but hopefully this little guide will make your visits a lot less frequent for you and a lot more common for your enemy. But first, one of the golden rules of EVE:

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR CLONE UPDATED.

What is not mentioned in this article is that with the new Ambulation project that is going to be out later this year, it takes the last 5 years of this Pod Pilot Eve lore and throws it out the window.

To make thigns even more confusing, as the same time this article is posted, there is another one on here that tells how CCP is removing another one of their features, like the pod pilots mentioned here, from the game.

Total BS, and CCP should be ashamed of themselves. I guess greed is not limited ti just the USA.

If you want to argue about lore, you should really, really do your research.
There is an old chronicle describing the process of stepping out of a pod. Obviously not a very pleasant one..

If ignorance were bliss, the world would be a *much* happier place.

If you walk far enough you will meet yourself

100 or so years could be enough to develope a 'base' technolgy far enough so people don't wet grave anymore.

see jovian wetgrave.  Basically for a Jovian to keep themselves from going comatose after leaving a pod it takes years of training(the jove aren't worried about years so it's probably 5-10).  R&D on pods was probably insanely slow because of it being a fringe science because people had to figure pods out, how to interface them, optimizing them for human use.   All of that being insanely slow because there was no market to start with.

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

It should be noted that you can no longer smartbomb within 5km of gates.  So sitting on a gate as described in this article is no longer a valid method.

Incorrect. While you can't smartbomb directly on a gate, you can smartbomb 5k from the gate, which has basically the same effect, as you land roughly 2.5k from gate in your pod.

Sure, if you're lined up in the same direction as the person approaching the gate is warping to it at, you might get lucky.  But you simply can not sit there and expect to hit ever person approaching a gate with smart bombs, if the system has more than one other gate coming from it.

You also land anywhere from 2.5k to 0.  Meaning you can be out of the range of smart bombs quite often if the person using them isn't perfectly positioned, as the geometry from a gate extends out a few k.  Someone sitting on it at zero might be 6-8k from someone else, who only shows as 5k away from the gate.

Generally a good article, but I think you should mention a few more details:

- You should not make a habit out of warping your pod to Stargates, because if you do it in nullsec, you're likely to find that gate bubbled, guarded and yourself in a station shortly after.

- It should be actively discuraged for players to warp to moons. Moons have guns.

- Warping between several planets before attempting to dock is good advice. In fact, it should be stated that this is such good advice because it lets you wait out the 60 second agression timer you might have that would keep your pod outside a station, unable to dock.

EDIT: In response to the poster above - it is a common tactic for lowsec to have ships execute just this kind of smartbombing manouver to kill small ships. The trick, btw, is to stagger the smartbombs, making the first 5-6 kill the ship and the remaining the pod. The same is true for nullsec systems, especially with slingshot bubbles.

Yup, but this is very often the case. Usually you camp pipes, and there is usually one incoming gate and one outgoing. Damaging people who are still in warp is unreliable, but works more often than not. (i should know, i did this in a 0.0 pipe both with slingbubbles and without)
