I play the game and I like it. Best way to decide is to test it yourself. If you post your mail I am sure someone will drop you a buddy key. If you want to join a packed server you should go Set, Thog, Commeria, Tyrrant, deatwisper, Wiccana or any of the other servers listed in the official AoC forum.

AoC does not have a free trial. Even if it did, it would most likely only allow you to play in Tortage, which is the best part of the game. That part of the game will get you to level 20.

Would I download the Tortage tutorial if it was a free download and free to play? Yes, that portion of AoC is fun to play, however the rest of the game, IMO is total crap.

Dont listen to a lot of the assholes. The game is FINE...I just bought it despite the negativity from the vocal minority on the forums. I found a decent population of people all having fun, no one complaining in chat channels.

It is a beast performance wise, but even the performance was better than these trolls lead you to believe.

So you liked it? Thats excellent man, in the end its all about what you like, not what we or anyone else tells you to think.  I wonder if you will have this view in a month or so, but whatever happens down the road, if its enjoyable for you, what can anyone say but have fun storming the castle!

This game has its fair share of issues, but it's really a game you should try out yourself and see if you like it.

To put it in perspective for you, I was thinking about how I played Age of Conan for 3 months, and then quit because there was nothing to do at level 80 for someone with my situation/gameplay style. I bought into the WAR hype/train, and its only 2-3 weeks into that game, and I'm bored with it, and thinking of seeing if Age of Conan doesn't suck yet or not.

Oh, and, I have my buddy pass still. Not quite sure what to do with it.

You have to log in at Register.Ageofconan.com and then go to Invite a buddy and have their email address ready to go.  Enter their email - your server and in game name and then a note if you want, and click send.

EDIT: I would hold off if you are inviting a friend as patch 3 looks like it might make some signifigant changes to the game.  Shame to waste it now when some pretty drastic (if the patch goes in and goes well) changes are just around the corner.

Overall, I'd say no. It won't be at the point it was promised to be at launch even from a year from now. I can honestly say this was one of the biggest scams of a game I have ever played. If there was ever an example where the advertisement and media of a game measures it's success, this game would be that slogan's poster boy. Where it is at this point is decent, but not at $15 dollars a month.

Sure thing, it costs you $3 dollars though. Yup, $3 dollars to play their trial unless you know somebody with the disks or decide to download it from a torrent.

That in itself should be a great example of how the company conducts business with it's players.

If only SW:TOR could be this epic...

I just started playing this game and I love it. Absloutely amazing game. See for yourself then decide. One thing is for sure, I am very glad I did not trust on some of the comments thrown around in this forum.

Well said.   And also - don't support companies like Funcom.    Rarely have I ever seen a company with such terrible customer service, gaming or no.    The best way to teach a company like that a lesson is to speak with your wallet and not only refuse to support this product but future products as well.
