Well I didnt fall for all the hype of WAR infact I have only been playing about 2 weeks. I learned my lesson with AOC and wasnt going to fall victim again of all the pre release hype.  AOC was a blast up until I hit max level. I never had peformance issues never crashed and didnt really care about any of the unbalancing issues. The game was fun and i was having fun, but level 70 came and the fun stopped. However i am not here to talk about AOC.

WAR what is it good for? I am having a lot of fun atm however things seem pretty repetitive. Is this it?  I am level 12 and it has taken me around 2 weeks( I have tried a few other classes). I love scenarios and public quests and I have been pveing. I have never done RVR except to do quests. I have never eve seen another sole in RVR.  My question is this...Is this it? Is this how it is through out all levels? same repetitive motions of scenarios and Public quests.  Dont get me wrong i am loving the game but i can see this getting old after a few more levels. Is there going to be anything that is going to make me say holy shit?

Well then I must not be understanding the game. I have done so much Nordenwatch that I could play it blind folded. Is that not PVP.  I love PVP or I wouldnt have bought the game. Then tell me how to do RVR  because i must be missing something then and if RVR is just senerios then I guess i have done RVR.

I think he meant the same thing as I mean.   I wanted to RvR, but i couldn't because there was nobody else in the area.   You either do PvE or you do Scenarios... it's not by choice.

It gets better once you hit around rank 18 and start raiding Keeps. I find this part of the game a ton of fun, even more so than the scenarios. keep in mind you haven't even seen the city sieges yet and that is the endgame. Also, with the way they are patching and making great fixes, any negative aspects you are experiencing are being addressed and squashed fairly quickly. Can't wait to see how this game does through the Holidays and once the content patches start to hit.

Looking Forward to:Final Fantasy 14!!! STO and STOR and the Wheel of Time.

Playing: WoW,FFXI,LOTRO,EQ2,WAR,AoC(off and on)

Are you a member of a guild?

The reasons I ask this is I came to this game HATING PvP and RvR and now I've completely changed.  I do the PVE quests, PQ's, Scenarios and RvR in the battlegrounds.  If you want to do the BG's, you really need to be part of a guild (something which I wasn't big on before either).

There are three different scenarios per tier.  You don't have to keep doing Nordenwatch.  There are also (I think) three different PQ's per chapter.

The game can be quite cool when you plan an attack on a keep and do some heavy fighting on the way.

You have to be a bit more proactive with WAR than other games.  You need to seek the fun, not expect the fun to come to you.

I find there are many more choices of what to do in this game than others.  In other games, it was usually either PvE or PvP.... and that was it.

Well unfortunately RvR is relatively sparse because everyone is doing scenarios all the time.

However, RvR is by no means completely dead..  I have had some great battles in T2 and T3.

I think the issue here is that everyone and their dog is trying to get their first character to 40.  This means that you are way behind the rest of the pack who are tier 3/4.

When everyone reaches cap.. and people start to level alts or defend the frontlines in tier 4..  then I think things will improve.  Hopefully mythic nerf the exp/renown that can be gained from scenarios too.

I agree that it was a game designed around pvp. IF you're more of a PVE guy, and don't really want to partipate in PVP, then this game is probably not for you. It has some PVE content, but it isn't really a focus of the game.

I hope not. they need to up the xp for every thing ealse.

Sorry but the thought of having to grind 6 months to see the end game content just doesn't cut it with me.

I played DAoC back in the day when they made it take longer to hit lvl 50. 6 months of mind numbing  grinding to hit top lvl was too much.

As someone else said: depending on the server there is indeed not much RvR going on. Why? Because everyone is grinding both XP and RP in scenarios. Which is a sad thing, imho. It's like playing WoW BGs with a different skin. instanced PvP was not what I was looking for. I played enough BGs in WoW already, thanks. Especially since Blizzard decided to kill world PvP in WoW I was so excited when I heard about Warhammer. But frankly Warhammer is again nothing but grind in instanced BGs aka scenarios.

The root of the problem is that scenarios gives way more XP and RP than open RvR or PvE. Since everyone wants to rush to level 40 and RR 80 as fast as possible it's no wonder noone cares about open RvR or PvE.

Some servers might be a bit different. But on the servers I've tested there wasn't much open RvR or PvE. Everyone was doing scenarios. Becauze you levelz fazter

The amount of time it has been taking to level I was wondering if it was just my play style. I actually thought it was required to pve to level. I didnt know we could just do senerios to level.  So what is the best way to level your character. Lets me say this i am in no hurry to get to max level i want to enjoy the game.

The fastest  way would be to do only scenarios.

The best way would be to do a bit of all (scenarios, open RvR, PQs)

Unfortunately most of the players prefer the fastest way (everything below endgame seems to be irrelevant somehow) so, depending on the server, you might have a hard time finding players for open RvR and PQs.

Wrong. The fastest way is AoE-duo'ing first level PQs and specific areas. You get around 22k each time you complete a tier 4 scenario, that would be around 110Kexp/h. By AoE'ing with the right group you can get up to 300Kexp/h. To reach that you would have to get 60k each scenario match (which isn't very probable).

During the first levels yes, it is faster. Mainly because you don't have the proper tools for an AoE group, and simply because scenario exp doesn't rise like leveling exp (at rank 1 you can get around 4k per match, at level 40 you can get around 22k).

Don't expect REAL RvR at Rank 12. When you start capping & defending keeps, the REAL fun begins. Scenarios will be boring after doing it for 100s times, PQs will also get bored. But I never have anything more fun in a game as those keep fights and the fun lasts.

IMPORTANT!!!! WAR is NOT for soloers!! Join a guild or just quit WAR if you don't want to make friends/ally with others!

Keeps will be boring after doing it for 100 times. And Keeps are in there till the end game. In fact it IS the end game (capitol with a twist)....

I have had the same problem as the OP.  Admittedly I am an alt whore which has slowed my leveling down considerably.  My highest level is a 19 Black Orc.  The couple of times that I have seen keeps under attack I have gone to investigate and rvr only to find nobody else around.  This sucks because I'm not going to try to take on a massive force by myself. =p  I'm hoping things even out at level cap and when I find a good serious guild to join.

Play to win, Play to have fun

Fun = Win

10/09/08 11:25:04 AM#21

The problem is the people, plain and simple. All these people moaning about the game should either play  the way they want and except the game for what it is. But no there trying to change to the way it suits them. Sure "tons" of people hate scenario's, but thats them. Many people enjoy them. Probably more in fact.

But the reason you see more hate then like on this forum is because the people who enjoy it for what it is are playing it. They may not like everything about it but they except the fact of what the game is. People need to slow up on the bashing and realise theres never gonna be an mmo out there that fits everyones needs. Its impossible.

Yes the game is a grind. But What mmo isn't? Sine mmo's exsisted they been grinds. Console games are grinds to just in a diffrent aspect. Something else people need to come to terms with. (Most of the most successfull mmo's of all time were grinders)

As far as content, come on. Seiges, scenarios, PQ's, quests, unlockable entrys. That right there is bread butter for a good game. Then theres looks. Many of the classes have some pretty epic looks. People bash custimaztion but in reality, all games have a limit. (A few exceptions of course)

The excitement will be there if you want it to be, really it will be. Ifmmo pvp is your thing then the excitement will be there. Sure some points in the day are slow. But people do have lives. (Im at working writing this inbetween calls) The game is only as good as your mind lets it. If you have notion that your just endless grinding then nio, your gonna hate it. But if you keep an openmind and positive attitude about the REAL aspects of this game, then this game will be great for you like many others.

Basically to sum it up is don't let some grind get you down, any other gam you goto will have it to. Just accept the that fact and enjoy. If its not your thing thats fine to, just remember theres a game for everyone. Just have to look harder

Enjoy : )

Totally Brasome

10/09/08 11:29:23 AM#22

@OP

The RvR later on is the meat and potatoes of this game. It's insanely fun, but right now a lot of people are forgoeing it in favor of the scenarios which is really sad. I truly hope this changes because that is seriously the funnest part of this game. Keep Sieges, and city sieges are insanely fun, and fast paced.

My suggestion is get into a guild, and get organized and raid some keeps. Get the other side out there to defend, if there isn't RvR going on MAKE it happen. Attack war camps, and spur up some action!

The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.

I'm not sure I get excited about MMOs anymore, but I enjoy this game and I can see myself playing it for a long time to come.

There isn't really anything on the immediate horizon that I'm keeping an eye on.

If Bioware's MMO is the same quality as their other products that's the only thing I can think of. Oh and WH40K :p

Yea me too..  DAoC was way too slow..  and losing exp on death didnt help.

However, this game is silly fast leveling compared to that.  Its faster than WoW too.

No idea why people think this game has slow levelling.  The only game that is faster is guild wars.

Actually this is incorrect.  Open RvR at the keeps gives you way more RP than Scenarios.  If your keep has gone into the under attack flag you gain about 100+ RP (in T2) every couple of mins. It increases if your fighting people live because then you get RP for defending but for also each player you kill.   Because everyone's playing scenarios back to back (and then complains about grinding) there's not enough constant fights going on ... if people actually chose to try the RvR lakes everyone would be gaining Gear, xp and renown way faster.   Infact gear set peices for PvP only drop in the RvR lakes...the Keep lord has a peice and each objective has a peice...funny...how the scenario grinders don't seem to notice so they all complain about customization well hello they're missing it by grinding.

People rant and rave but never actively try anything.  Last night Order kept attacking the keeps we had...I created an open warband with my friends got on the /1 channel and within 5 mins we had another warband and several members in our warband beating order back out of our keep.  Its really not that hard if you TRY.
