What SOE got right:  Raiding. That is about it. EQ1 raids (anything Rathe council+) are the best by far suprassing anything else out there for sheer fun and complexity.

Their biggest problems are trying to nickle and dime their playerbase and releasing expansions way too often. Before I quit you barely had time to finish the content of one expansion before the next came in. And that was just the basic content. There was no time to really digest all the content most of the expansions offered and really enjoy them.  Thats the big reason I quit.

I would also agree that Smedly is a big part of the problem. Nothing will change there until he goes.

I agree with this completely.

He's the one who introduced LoN and the cash shops.

He's also the one who started focusing on console games.

And he's the one who thought EQ2 could be successful without knowing that a majority of players would still prefer EQ1.

EQ2 was a failure. Yes it was, compare it to what EQ did, when you have an IP like EQ and can't even get more people to play EQ2 than EQ1, you failed.

PoTBS was a failure. I don't need to explain.

The Agent is the lamest thing I have ever seen being promoted as an MMO, which it is not.

The only reasonable game out there they still have is EQ1. And that's not saying much.

All the "fire Smedley" etc posts might be a bit more believable if not for the fact that it is always the same dozen or so posters that plaster that tired old refrain in every message thread that mentions SOE.

SOE bashing has been the "thing to do" for the past couple few years. I guess that proves you are part of the "in" crowd.

Here's a clue - despite all the bashing by the same core of people time after time, SOE managed to survive for longer than 98% of all other MMO publishers. It's also getting a bit tiresome, kind of like hearing the same old "talking points" from politicians.
