Looked at population over the weekend (more to see grab bag in case they mentioned Origins) and was kind of shocked to see the US population in the 500's. This morning its about 50 per cluster. Um, with the addition of taxes now being charged, it seems Mythic is purposely trying to kill DAoC. May have to break down and get WAR in 6 months or so, since Age of Crap kinda ruined my thoughts on ever getting an MMO at release.

I think its safe to say this game is on its last breath, it was amazing while it lasted, but its outdated, and people have just moved on, and new players arent going to be coming in with a low population.

Supposedly theirs this "origin server" that might bring players back, we can only hope so, but im not going to hold my breath on it.

Fantastic game though, I pity anyone who never got the chance to play this game in its primetime.

Well, if DAoC does die, I'll have nothing to go back to or play.  I've tried war and it's not for me.  I guess I'll just hang back in the shadows and watch the genre move along and perhaps I'll jump out everny now and again to see how it is.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I bet you played an infiltrator, shadowblade or nightshade.

Sad to see it go, I played it when it first came out and then again on the classic servers. Eh, hopefully they will do something with the license to bring people back. With the population as it stands now, theres little hope of seeing anyone with all the different expansions.

I suppose I did play a few of those classes.  I do have a 50 nightshade as well as a 50 Shadowblade.  Toward the end when I last played I was mostly on my dwarf WARRIOR!!!  I got him to look exactly how I wanted, got all the armor exactly the way I wanted.  The CL sword was kick ass.  I especially ejoyed butchering Albion players... damn nostalgia... I'm getting all misty eyed.

I still have a sliver of hope for Origins.  Not quite sure if it's misguided hope at this point.

SWTOR (hooked), DAoC, SWG, CoH, WoW, 9 Dragons, VCO, LotRo, RoM most played many times off and on.

I think at this point everyone is looking at the population and waiting for "The Savior Server" to see if people play.  I have an odd feeling that there are going to be a ton (give or take a few pounds) of people who will not play until they see a high population.  The old "I'll play if other people play" approach.  So unless a few hundred people jump on it as soon as it is released it might fail.  Sadly the whiners and greifers rule the forums and "word of mouth" of the MMO genre so once there is even a hint that Origins might not be as populated as we all hope it will be there will be rampant stories of how is sucks and how "they" ruined it, etc.

So my advice is, if you liked DAoC and would like to see it have another run at the glory of the "old days", you better grab your family and friends and re-up your accounts and log on Origins the second it drops... and stay logged on 24-7 so the "I'll play if others do" people see a decent population.  Oh, and I'll see you there.

At least they are doing it the way the game first started, choose a realm and stay there. One server and one realm. It will be nice to be able to play in all the original areas and OF with all the new stuff in place. I really missed going out with my Sorcerer and charming an ice giant in OF and then parking it in front of Camelot just for pure reactions.

What they should do is get rid of all the clusters and just do a merge of the TOA stuff on one server and the Classic stuff on another. Maybe a third for the origins (if).

They've merged all the classic servers a long time ago, the toa servers have been thrown together into 4 separate clusters.  I'm pretty sure they can cobble them together into 2 if not even 1 solid cluster.

Its sad really, I really miss those old grouping days where you just got together to grind for hours, raid and such.  it was enjoyable yes it may have been long but you got to know people that way. Thats what I loved about DA plus it was my first MMO ever and I just fell in love with it to start.

I've made many....many attempts to go back to the game but I just can't do it, its not the same. They've added so much, and have fixed what wasn't broken. Call me old fashion but I rather liked the olden days of the game before ToA.

I have WAR now but honestly I can't get into it, and I dunno if its cuz I'm disappointed, was expecting more or for the fact I haven't had much luck with grouping or guilds yet and I can't say I'm a huge fan of the chapter system and I can't pin point what I don't like about it yet...I just know I don't like it. I am continuing to play though in hopes of things brightening up maybe I just need to get out of the tier 1 area away from all the noobies.... WAR is a good game but will never be Dark Age of Camelot, not that I was expecting it to be after all I was in closed beta for awhile

My private server has a bigger population than the main ones do xD

Haven't looked into the private servers yet. But am very much interested, send me a private message, getting sick of playing F2P games or waiting for betas to start. After 3 months of Age of Crap, kinda weary about signing up for WAR currently, not to mention the economy sucks right now.

I'll probably go back if/when origins comes out, maybe even before. War also isn't quite for me. It is fun sometimes, but its just something to pass the time for me it seems. And no I did not play a rogue class in daoc. I loved my spiritmaster and other casters I use to have in alb.

I went in with some sort of expectation of WAR being something like DAoC and it wasn't.  It's an ok game... i guess.  It just wasn't for me.  The focus of the general player base is different from that of my own.  Everybody is intent on getting to the highest levels as fast as possible and in doing so start depleting the lower zones or they outlevel the new guys and make a void in the middle zones.

I'm one to take my time explore everything and when I played DAoC I could find people with similar interests with whom I can head out into the wilderness with and still have fun.  Not so in WAR.  I think overall it's just a different feeling and not something I'm interested in.

I'll keep an eye on it for a while just to see where it goes unless the few of my friends that still play it quit, then I'll forget it all together.  Maybe Stargate Worlds will be interesting....

Eh, what you explained in regards to WAR was the same with Age of Crap. Everyone trying to hit the high level first. Its the same with any game. It should calm down in a few months. People will be more interested in exploring, and taking their time, rather than racing to the highest level first. I also believe the population will balance out (ie. order) eventually.

Do remember though, WAR is a more intense RvR game, kinda like what DAoC would be like if all there was, were frontiers. Eventually, it will all work out.

Stargate worlds looks and seems to play exactly like Tabulas Rasa (which I played for a while). It will be compared to Planetside as well. Just has the stargate license.

Another grab bag and no mention of origins. I think they gave up on that idea. So sad....

Jacobs will continue to pretend DAOC does not exist until WAR subscriber base begins to erode.I see about 3k total worldwide online  at peak times.DAOC is breathing its last breaths.

I think they'll start thinking about origins once the population of WAR peaks.  I don't think it has to start eroding before they consider DAoC again.  I think after the free month is over for the WAR people they'll have to consider if they want to continue to pay for it or if they'll just go back to what it was they were playing before.  Somehow I think that the true DAoC players will not find what they're looking for in WAR and they'll eventually just come back and demand the origins server.

I say give it a month or 2.  If nothing else, go on a vacation and come back after the new year.  I think by then things will be a bit more clear.

Well, if DAoC does die, I'll have nothing to go back to or play.  I've tried war and it's not for me.  I guess I'll just hang back in the shadows and watch the genre die a slow death and perhaps I'll jump out everny now and again to see how it is.

Fixed ;)       Origins or bust, this genre is gone.  We can only go back to these games, otherwise there's nothing left.

I see what you did there .  I haven't really thought of it that way.  I guess you might be onto something since I have yet to find anything that matches the fun I've had with DAoC.  I looked at the population today on the Herald and it was best described as dismal.  I'm glad there's still some people who play it but it's just not enough to make it feel alive.

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off.

I highly recommend making the jump to Warhammer.  It has all the great characteristics that DAoC has, only impoved.  WAR is still suffering from some performance issues in terms of RvR, but that is something that I feel Mythic is making a high priority, as WAR will live or die with it's end game RvR.  The rest of the game is brillant and has a lot of fun for those who like the team aspect of MMOs.
