it seems that if you dont love an MMO you have to hate it. and everyone who loves the one they buy, usually ONLY loves that one and roots against all others like they were the enemy. where else does this dynamic exist????

yup/ sports.

"my favorite 'team' is blizzard, it totally crushes turbine."

"oh yeah, well blizzard is the mcdonalds of MMO developers, EQ is way cooler cause its for hardcore people"

on and on... etc, etc...

it seems that we cant JUST like an MMO, it must be either loved or hated. and it seems people LOVE to hate AoC.

i think the MMO space is a much healthier space due to conan's launch. and i really enjoy conan.

in fact, i usually am subbed to 2 MMOs at a time and in between many others because its up there as one of my favorite genres. im playing, actively-

LotRO / AoC / WAR

and, on and off-

EQ2, tabula rasa, SWG, PotBS...

conan also serves a demographic that no other MMO up to this point has served yet, and therefore it is a necessary piece of software as one of the colors of the MMO rainbow. and in this case, the color is RED...

conan is the higher paced, mature MMO with a rich mythology and lore based on the robert e. howard books. it has a visual art style like no other and of course, its a fact that it IS the best MMO graphically. it may not be your vial of blood, stylistically, but its a fact, the GFX are phenominal.

I think thats very true.  Just look at the backlash most new games get from wow fans..

however, with conan things are a little different.

i think the MMO space is a much healthier space due to conan's launch. and i really enjoy conan.

Yes, but not for why you think.  Conan makes the mmorpg genre better by serving as a warning to other developers not to treat their players as fools.

conan also serves a demographic that no other MMO up to this point has served yet, and therefore it is a necessary piece of software as one of the colors of the MMO rainbow. and in this case, the color is RED...

conceptually conan looked great..  but it wasnt implemented by an honest company..  and whilst all games have their haters - I think in this one case there is a real legitimacy, not for wanting AoC to fail directly, but to want funcom to fail.  It is better for the market.

You may feel differently, and thats your right..  but I really think a good proportion of this particular hatred is deserved.

Actually AoC is the only game that I hate. Turbine, for example didn't con me like Failcom has done (AoC NDA still not lifted). Granted, I don't play Lotro anymore, but I have nothing bad to say about Turbine and I hope they do well. Failcom on the other hand, oh boy.. let's just say that it makes me very happy to see them crawl with over 90% lowered stock value and loss of employees.

People, for the most part, don't like Failcom/AoC because they lied blatantly to players. It has nothing to do with "sportsteams".

What did they blatantly lie about? They hyped sure, more along the lines of over hyped it. However, if you're referring to dx10, it's on the box yet it was announced through the gaming media , "no dx10 at launch". Boxes were printed before this came to be, that's oversight (poor resource management) it's not lying. This is the fact of the matter, one that's rarely faced I'll add.

Look I understand the reason people were more than angry over AOC at launch. That's perfectly understandable. However that was months ago, the guy responsible stepped down or was forced out. At this point it's ancient history, as far as I'm concerned. You do realize SOE customers have been hoping for something like this to happen over there for years? That's a true den of lies (research it), you want to see a company trully piss on customers spend a few months subscribed to SWG or something else they run.

You're also mistaking his sports team analogy to only be about AOC. His analogy is spot on, it's been this way for years, far before anyone even talked about AOC.It's no different than the kiddies who argue over playstation and xbox.

Now how can you hate a game or a gamedeveloper? How is that possible? I mean, there are games I do not like as in, it's just not fun or it's just bugged, but hate? That is just very disturbing.

Well you tell us, as you OBVIOUSLY LOVE FUNCOM, how can you blindly support a company that releases a game THIS BAD? The fact that you stand here day in and day out trying to convince people to buy this pile of doo-doo is sad enough.  Ask yourself the same question why dont you?
