You know FFXI was actually a PS2 game released in Japan.. when they opened up the US market it was cross platformed to the PC. FFXI is better than many of the "pc only" MMO's that have ever come out.. and had one of the best control systems (imho) of any MMO I have ever played. I never thought of that game as watered down... and ya I'm not into consoles either but.. to make general statements like they are facts is.. not logical. Its perfectly viable to make a very good cross platform MMO... then again considering recent MMO releases its not all that hard to be one of the better MMO's on the market. |

| "We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers." -Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts. Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market? |

One good example of a multi-console mmo that is routinely hacked is Phantasy Star Universe. One of the reasons most of its players are gone. |

FFXI IMO is very successful. It came out before WOW did and its still going strong. Its one of my favorite MMO's as i played it for 5 years. Its more of an MMO for the hardcore MMO'er which I like so that cuts out your casual MMO'er sub rate which isnt a bad thing. The community in it is by far the best of ANY mmo out there. Its not only for the ps2 but also the 360. For it to still be around today and releasing expansions, it has to be successful or Square Enix would not continue to put time and money into it. |

It went over pretty well in Japan, not so much in the US. That is why Square / Enix maintains it. |

| I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food" |

But there are alot of north american players that do play it. The word Solo is not in FFXI vocabulary. US gamers like to solo alot and not be forced to group for the most part. Edit: so I dont think that it being cross platform (pc/console) had anything to do with its popularity or lack there of. |

Originally posted by toddze Man what is it with ignorant people these days? PS3/360 Consoles CAN use keyboard and mouse. Its just that the games developed for them do not have the software built in to be compatable with keyboard and mouse. So if an MMO goes to console it can use keybord and mouse if the developers want it to. They just need to add the software to their game and presto you can use mouse and keyboard.
I never said it couldn't use a keyboard. I was saying the keyboard and mouse are way better than using a controller. Besides using a keyboard and mouse on a console is a joke....how many successful games have come out that use a keyboard and mouse? I tried playing FF on the 360... | |
