It is called magic. It operates in ways that are beyond our comprehension. It has its own set of rules that are logically baffiling to us. If its workings were not so elusive, would it not be science? A dragon is acceptable, but a simple controlled explosion is not? If you can control the wind, why row? If you can trap a fire elemental and make it do your bidding, why build an extremely complex (mechanically speaking) stone thrower? Also, as per the warhulks: It has come up many times on the official df forums that wheels require diffucult animations and are likely to cause lag. I am not an expert, but it comes up quite a lot. This may be the reason that the warhulks hover? I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy. |

I don’t think magic can explain away everything… If it was a magic based weapon, don’t you think they would have come up with something more creative then something that looks exactly like a cannon? Like a giant sunflower… Or something… See, that’s why I don’t make games. Everquest 1, Star wars galaxies, City of heroes/villains, Eve, Lord of the rings, Age of Conan |

why cant it be a normal cannon? thats how i interpreted it, seemed like a normal ass cannon to me considering the cannon balls coming out. i'd said the warhaulks are propelled by some sort of magic, though considering how successful hovercrafts have been with today's technologies. |

If they didn't have cannons they would have to take out the whole boat aspect which would be a waste. Becuase what else could attack off a boat besides a catapult really? |

Originally posted by feyrband I think they wanted an explanation that didn't lead directly to "why no pistols?" therefore magic was said to be used to propel the balls instead of gunpowder I guess you could still have magic pistols, but whatever. but yeah, cannons are in for the ships. also, cannons are faster at leveling huge castles, a realistic fight w/o cannons but with catapults took a long time. plus this way you can sail into a port, take out a wall, rush in and take the city. pirates are fun, no? |

Originally posted by Squitty Well, most probably they could have used boats like they were historically used prior to the cannon, for boarding other boats or delivering troops to a destination. But if you want ship vs ship combat, have to have cannons of some sort to make it fun.
