I stopped playing MMOS for a while, and recently came back to try LoTRO, WAR, and AoC... After playing each of them for a long while, they still don't compare to WoW.. They are not even close to as fun, creative, and diverse...

So, I'm playing Burning Crusade, and pre-ordered Lich King..WoW is king.. Can't wait for a real contender.. But I have a feeling the oly contender to WoW will be WoWII

you should give vanguard  a try before announcing best mmo..

You do not know how to appreciate quality of games. You are probably this new generation of kids which want to be popular like the rest of the kids from the block and play WoW.

But I already tried vanguard, that wasn't even in the same area.

WoW is awesome, period. This is why it has the most players of ALL age groups in any of these MMOS.

And FYI, I've been playing MMOS for 7 Years, and I am a hard core gamer.

To the OP: The games you tried in place of WoW aren't *that* far different from it (especially WAR) so maybe you should try something like Eve which is pretty unique.

Yeah, and I created the genre. My 4 yrs old son was the first one to get to 60 on WoW.

I do play EvE when I get tired of fantasy, but fantasy is mostly what I like. EvE is a great game in it's genre :)

WoW is awesome, period. WoW has the past world wide reputation of other Blizzard titles such as the WarCraft RTS series and Diablo. This is why it has the most players of ALL age groups in any of these MMOS.

I know that I speak for everyone here on the MMORPG.com forums when I say, "Thank goodness!"

If I hadn't found out the exciting news that someone who has never posted here before and just registered TODAY was "back to WoW", I don't think I would have made it through the day.

I was particularly intrigued to discover that while you only "recently came back to try LoTRO, WAR, and AoC" you had, in fact, played "each of them for a long while" and found that "they still don't compare to WoW."

But, to be honest, the most striking and moving part of your post was the revelation that you "have a feeling the oly contender to WoW will be WoWII"

Yes, I did play Ultima Online, and at the time i was living in Chicago.

First off. I played all the games you mentioned.

AoC was boring for me after level 20.

WAR I love. Mainly because I've played Warhammer since I was 10

LoTRO. Well I find the combat too......clunky. But I aprreciate it's a good game, and I could love it if the combat was more my style.

WoW.....I still have my account and dabble in it occasionally. So I play WoW, WAR and CoH. Every time I go back to WoW I get bored with the commitment it seems to need me to put into it, whilst giving me no enjoyment in return. It's slow, and the combat is actually made slow (as are recovery times) to make it more time-consuming. At least it feels that way to me. I feel WAR is just faster and more accessible. One thing I will say in favor of WoW. It is a whole world. It has little jokes, side games etc. which make it a whole world, whereas WAR is just the frontlines of a war. That is WAR's flaw and WoW's perhaps greatese strength. Immersion.

Oh and character customisation is TERRIBLE.

You are full of BS WAR has been out 2 weeks.  That is nota long while.  Care to tell what Mount Gunbad is like?

Hey I am being nice her that is a level 22-26 dungeon.  I didn't even mention the bastion stair or taking a T3 keep.

Pretty sure you have done none of those.  So I call BS.

I had no idea one could consider 2 weeks a "long while" in MMO standards.  but obviously you're such an awsome hardcore gamer, you can bend time and space and try a game for months in the span of 2 weeks.

Mount Gunbad is mid-level dungeon where the boss is Masta Mixa...isn't it? All I remember is dying by Whirlin' brain Bursta spell.

And I am in the middle of vacation. So I have all day and night to try the games. So belive it or not two weeks is a long time when you can play 24/7

Don't mind him, he was friend of Richard back when he was 11 and lived next to Origin's HQ.

but WoW is crap. How can anyone like it after playing the old UO, as you so-claim.

WoW is lacking of skill, pitiful lore, and many, many other terrible features. The lore is GARBAGE compared to WC3, and WoW killed WC3's greatness. a TRUE WC3 MMO should have been...darkfall, pretty much...but look at WoW. LOLLLLLLL

Lack of skill, lack of PvP, joke of PvE. Its not really Player vs Environment, more like Player vs Scripted, Predictable Mob

Dueling in a sandbox is not PvP. I never see good old 40 man raids on x-roads, capitals, nothing. Just a bored 70 or two who gank some noobs because theyre bored and tired of the game, and remember the good old days pre-battlegrounds, where at least it was fun, if still lacking skill, to attack capitals with 40 people.

WoW will soon be in the shadow of the Dark.

Nonsense, EVE's still the best, even if you haven't come to accept it yet.
