As can be seen in this thread: http://forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=95079

Seems Funcom really knows the players think facial expressions are important. So they enhanced them!

Here's a player who is pleased with this new feature by Funcom:

Even the NPCs get enhanced facial expressions! :

This is a youtube video that shows a before and after. Imagine this powerful warrior charging his enemies with his new fighting face!

Age of Conan has the best NPC of all time:

I don't care about his facial expression, but his dialogue is just too damn funny!

There was more talk on the NA forums too Molok:  http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=167105

OMG! That's got me coming back to AoC! Glad Funcom are adding smiley npc's to the game.  Finally Funcom are listening to the community and adding the smiley npc's.

Why add something that is not needed and looks kinda weird when the game has still a lot of flaws?

Im glad I left, really.

Sigh. An expression patch for NPCs/PCs...

Why are they doing this? Last time I checked skills are still bugged, classes are still unbalanced, and tehre's still geometry bugs in the maps (falling through ground, etc). Not to mention the memory leak (CPU/RAM requirements raise the longer you play the game).

Unless they already fixed this...which I think they didn't.

News flash: Games are not made, or patched one feature at a time, many teams working on many areas make adjustments at the same time. Coders do not make artwork ETC... Adding this, would not have affected the team working on bugs.

Also, OOM issues, and most memory leaks have been addresed, and will continue to be. So yes, they have been making improvements in thoes areas by all accounts.

I think what Callist0 was saying is why waste ANY time at ALL on this stuff now, given that they are bleeding subs left and right and the game worlds are mostly devoid of players?

Most likely because they, as the holders of the data, know better if this is true, than an observer on a forums, and everything I said above.

If you don’t like the feature, fine. But saying that its taking away, or more important than fixing the game, is false.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

They are when you are talking about the remaining time frame this game has left. I mean, now this is just me, but if I were suddenly in charge of this mess and some dev came into the meeting to present this as what hes been doing, I would make sure that from that second forward he did something more productive.... of course I see what you mean mr blood, you refuse to concede that this isnt the time for this game to be making cosmetic changes.

400k people cancelled as of august. The game director resigns from the game, the company and the ENTIRE industry in september, we are still bleeding subs like the black night in the holy grail movie, ahhh what the hell - you two : spend serious development time on changing the characters facial expressions!

I think you know what we are talking about here..... allocation of resources... thats all Im saying - argue that all you want and make high and mighty statements as if you work at funcom even..... but its all about it...

Your painting a picture of dire straits based on antecedal evidence. Also, Games like Eve proved games can, and do com back from bad launches.

Funcom is not closing anytime soon as a company. Sorry. If you think they are, then you really do not know how large they are. AOC is not their only product, past, present, or Future.

Funcom isn't closing. Offcourse not. But the servers have bleeded dry, that's for sure. You should know that. I'm not basing this on forum talk, I'm basing this on my own experiences.

But back on topic: I also agree that releasing a "feature" like this is pretty useless. Atleast at this time. Sure, artwork and coding are 2 different departments, but I can't imagine myself saying "Yeah, let's release it NOW. I bet the public will take it very well!".

Excerpt taken from your post on crafting - He says this himself:>>>>It's always a balance between spending resources on a quick-fix to get something out to the players, and concentrating on more comprehensive profession upgrades which to varying degrees are planned across the board. <<<<

So there it is they do focus resources, it seems the graphics team chose facial expressions?

As an artist, I can tell you for a fact, I have no clue how to code art into a game. I'm sure someone has to code it in at some point. A different team may have did the artwork, but it has to make it into the game somehow.

But eve didnt cost $50 million of mostly borrowed money to make either.
