One good thing is that the Directx 10 is close to being put on the test server.  Looks like the new guy is shaking things up.  Good for him.  Just hope for Funcom that it is not too late.

it's too late for you to be hoping it's not too late for funcom.  You should have been hoping it's not too late for Funcom back in April, when it wasn't too late.   Once they launched the game, it was too late.

The only uncertainty (in my mind) is if we hear about the financial collapse of Funcom before they have to officially announce it on Nov 15th.

But but but... They have 400,000 subscribers! How could you need server merges with 400,000 people playing??

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

I'm trying my best not to use the server mergers in any way to slam on Funcom.  This is the one time where they put their ego's and hype on the back burner and did something that is right by their players.  The server mergers will make a HUGE difference to the players who still enjoy the game.

There are plenty of other ways to make fun of the fanboys.. I'm just not going to use server mergers :)

That number is made for legal reasons on a financial report... it isn't a live number. So EVER referring to it outside the context of the original document it was intended for is a dumb move.

Bingo. I really hope this will make the game much more enjoyable for those still playing AoC.

And hey, if we see other servers popping up later it means more subscribers.

RIP Blackguard. May a resurrection come.

I can't wait. The only reason I'm not playing is because there is no one to play with.

His comment was sarcasm directed at the half-dozen or so fanbois who insist on doing that very thing. They throw around this 400k number, which is not only old data, but was already out of date when it was released, and then pretend it actually means something.

While I agree this is a good thing and this is ONE time. Its too little to late to make up for months of customer bashing.

Server mergers are not a "good" thing in regards to the health and quality of the game. Nice spin.

It proves that either they lost many of their initial customers since launch or they conducted flawed marketing  prior to release and anticipated more players, but gamers have decided that AoC sucks.

It is a 'good thing' for current players.  that is how I meant it.   People who can't do instances because there aren't enough players,  guilds who can't seige because they are on the only guild on their server will have a much better gaming environment when the servers merge.

Yes, it is a PR nightmare, but that is why I said I'm not going to bash Funcom on this news.  They took the PR hit in order to give their customers a better experience.

yep server merges are a very positive and strong responce to a bad situation. Should have happened back late July. Leaving till now to start discussing it has cost them a massive ammount of subs.

Kudos to Funcom.  AoC will never be a blockbuster but if they play their cards right there is no reason they can't sustain 100K subscribers over a period of 3 - 5 years.

If tey are able to do that then this game will be profitable in the end, and profit is the bottom line.  But it will take a shrewd person to accomplish this.

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities.

Funcom is not doing server merges for the players.  They are doing them in a last ditch effort to save their collective butts.  The motivation is not a magnanimous gesture on their part because they have finally seen the light and are changing their evil ways.  They can't afford to keep all those extra servers running.  This was cost saving decision and nothing more.

This is not true.  Funcom does not operate their own servers.  They outsource it to a third party company and pay that company a percentage of every subscriber.    This will end up saving the third party company money, but not funcom.

I use skooma so that I can work harder and longer and make more money so I can buy more skooma. I don't see a problem.

Do I need to repeat myself for you too? I guess you BOTH don't understand. They are not "throwing" the number out. They use the SAME number for LEGAL reasons. Not just to "look good" for the MMORPG.com forums.....

Wha?  So this new guy at Funcom might have actually made a decision that will deliberately affect the playerbase in a positive way?  Lies!   Well, I hope this is the case, Azrile.

Funcom went too far with many servers at launching, this decision will benefit the game, and with all the -edited- playing WAR or back to WOW, we are gonna have good times.

Whatever

Er... I am not trying to be a troll... but did you actually read that post?

"I can today confirm that we are actively working on an approach to merge servers, both in Europe and North America. It’s important for us to ensure the best gameplay experience for you all, and more healthy populations on each and every server will make sure we maintain healthy communities for the game in the future. Still, there are many complexities involved in this, and we want to ensure that everything happens as fair and streamlined as possible. That work has now started, and we are naturally making sure that guilds and players can get to new servers in the best possible way. We will come back with more info on this, but I hope that this will serve as a positive injection to the social scene in the game. ..."

??

That work has started.

Yeah, I have started on losing weight, earning a million dollars and getting a playboy bunny girlfriend.
