I love the game footage so far. But why the mix of cannons and wizards? They could have just as easily used catapults on the land based siege equipment and balista for the ships... I guess it’s my preference to keep the games with guns outa my games with swords.. Everquest 1, Star wars galaxies, City of heroes/villains, Eve, Lord of the rings, Age of Conan |

It's a pretty common theme with War 40k and Warcraft. |

I highly doubt that any world that could develope anything similar to magic would ever find a use for canons or similar. It just seems kinda silly. |

Cannons were created hundreds of years before guns ever came out.

Its not historical MMO. Guess Cannons are in for practical reasons and IMO best Naval warfare in real history was the time ships used sails and had cannons. Scullers and ballisters may be more true to the "timeline" but would make things more complicated and maybe more unenjoyable to handle. -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE-------------------------------------------------- "There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Don’t forget the hover tanks with flame throwers and lasers or the 19th century ships of the line with their one size fits all machine gun cannons either. All looks like quite good fun but for how long I don’t know. Disappointing when I was expecting authentic siege weapons and ships, or at lease some sort of coherent design principle. Just looks like a mess to me, Judging by the video I doubt we will be seeing many if any realistic sieges or naval battles along with their associated real world tactics. |

Somehow I don't see Darkfall being a historical representation of our progress.
So why are we comparing it?
And Warhammer 40k is the future stuff, like space age future stuff. Warhammer is the .. well WAR. |

Only thing disturbing me is those hovercrafts, I say wtf? Where in hell did they get that idèa? I love what Darkfall could become, but seeing those in the video made me a bit dissapointed. What ever happend to the old ballista, catapult, trebushe, ram and canon sieges? Why in gods name to they have to have hovercrafts in the middle of everything? |

DarthRaiden theres a big difference between Greek fire which I’m very familiar with and flame throwers. Check the video for yourself again , flame thrower as in modern flamethrowers say from tanks from the 2nd world war commonly used in the pacific are a much more accurate description of the weaponry on the hover tanks. Greek Fire had a much more limited range and was primarily used on ships for naval battles not mounted on floating tanks to attack city’s. I appreciate you are trying to support these design decisions but most people who see the hover tanks in the video will think flamethrowers and lasers, not Greek fire. Most people who see the 19th century SOL’s in the video will think battle of Trafalgar not some kind of medieval type fantasy sea battles. Most people who see the hand grenades are not going to think “earthenware vessels containing greek fire” they are just going to think hand grenades from war movies. And then they are going to ask if we have cannons, and flamethrowers and grenades why don’t we have any forms of firearm? And if we have tanks and 19th century ships and grenades and cannons why are we still running around in medieval armor and using swords? And if we have floating vehicles why don’t we have any form of flying vehicles?, and why are we still bothering with mounts and cavalry when we could have hovering vehicles for transport? As I said this looks fun, and its not really that important if the game is actually good but it is disappointing, especially for the people like myself who have been following the game for years and got the impression this would be a fantasy / medieval based world even from the official FAQ, and then the developers reveal things like hover tanks and 19th century ships of the line this close to release. This is in coherent and inconsistent and its not a believable world to me personally. Its more like at some time during the development the developers asked what can we add that’s “cool”, and someone said “I know lets do hover tanks and ships from the pirates of the Caribbean!”, and someone else said “yeah and lets have flamethrowers and grenades and cannons to!” |

Originally posted by Polarization Great points. That’s what I would have written if I were more eloquent. Lol. And another point! Why would I “fly” my hover siege weapon into arrow range when I could just put a cannon on it and stay safe? It takes away from the immersion factor in the game and to me that is the most important thing… Everquest 1, Star wars galaxies, City of heroes/villains, Eve, Lord of the rings, Age of Conan |
