http://forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=95180 So much for Tahitoa's "no server merges planned" in the future spam from...well...yesterday. That guy should be fired for producing such errant info.

That is common in any industry. People release information when THEY want to release it. If Funcom was planning to release this letter today and announce server merges, then they aren't going to let a CM confirm it a day early, just because someone happened to ask. Its nice to see that this guy was pretty open about what is coming next. I think I hear the whole " in WOW people with the best gear ALWAYS win' crowd taking a little gasp. I'd have to go and do the math on WOW's stat budgets.. but 50% is pretty steep. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. All games launched should be launched with a server transfer as well as a server merges infrastructure finished. Almost all of them needs it. Logic dictates that after a while if you have a huge launch servers become empty and needs a merge.. Once pop.. settles down to a more likely level.. AoC of course is special.. so many jumped ship that I bet they don't need instances any more.. ____________________________ |

Agreed. I am intrigued by that powerpoint thing in the letter. Good thing I kept my sub running since launch as loyalty is rewarded. |

Well good...
It shows that they are finally figuring out that ignoring your players gets you nothing. I hope that they can manage to get some of this done soon, or else their won't be many players left, my account expires next month and I cannot justify paying for a game that I am too bored to play, anymore. I think Craig has the right ideas and direction for the game, but Funcom has very little credibility left with MMO gamers, not everyone wants to wait for and pay for a year till the game works properly |

Although they announced it today, I would not expect server mergers any time soon, probably 3+ months at least. This is way more complicated then the very basic pvp patch they just released and look how long that took. Honestly though, they shouldn't merge servers, they should just announce that 50% of their servers will be closed down and offer free character transfers to anyone on those servers. Mergers are much more difficult to pull off because of guilds. They should do it the easiest way possible so it gets done in a few weeks. Leave it up to the players to 'rebuild' guilds on the new servers. The investors really did not like this announcement... the stock is down almost 20% today. It's amazing how blind the investors are that it takes something 'official' to cause the stock to crash like this. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. It took around a month in vanguard if I remember rightly after proper details about the merge were annouced (which we havn't gotten yet in AoC). So it's going to be very close as to weather they can get them done before the WoW expansion in 6-7 weeks. your solution wouldn't be acceptable to many, building the city takes a ludicrous ammount of time to build the T3 city, just transfers is not an acceptable solution. Of course the best solution is to allow guild leaders to take the city down and convert it into a plan version of the building that can be transfered and put up on the next server allowing guilds to move without losing anything. Personally I wouldn't worry about battlekeeps though just do it for the main citys. |

Hard to tell in AOC and related sciences, since 75% of all characters I met in the game were female... Regardess of gender, Tahitoa is first and foremost an ignorant, mean, petty, lameass excuse for a proper moderator. It (to sidestep the he/she issue) was the reason I quit reading the official forums before I even cancelled, and a largely contributing factor in my final assessement of Funcom's customer service. (i.e. that it is condescending and worthless). Hiring (and retaining) such staffers is just one of the many, many, MANY wrong moves by Funcom. |

Hate to say it but I've always seen server mergers as a Deathknell for any MMO. It's basically admitting you don't have enough players. "Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000 |

I have no problem with server merges (or the fact that they've changed their minds about this) - 50 or so was always a very high number to start out with. They can always introduce more again later, should the need arise. |

Understand the job title before you make threads like this. And yes, SHE is a volunteer moderator. |

And SHE was and continues to be as worthless as Lufkin was. By the way, the "she doesn't work for the company" line is about as bull as the mods here with their "views expressed" disclaimers are. She represents the company merely by having that official title. Matters not if she is paid or not. |

I'm just stating to the OP that she is a volunteer moderator and her reasoning behind stating "no server merges planned" is because of that. From the way he made his thread, he seems to think somehow she works for the company and was "trying" to spread lies. When in fact she knew as much as him. Volunteer mod's do not get any inside information. Now as to the way she stated the subject matter is another story. I honestly could careless, i don't play Age of Conan. |
