Common sense is not so common.

I've spoken to numerous players who like the thought of bringing back the magic of the original World of Warcraft (AKA "Vanilla WoW"). The Burning Crusade didn't really have that much new to offer and what it did have to offer "broke the game" to put it bluntly.

There's something special about the original WoW, and I believe there's a market for "Retro-Realms". Since this would be more of a niche, I'm sure the community in such a realm would be a lot better than the ones we log into whenever we play nowadays.

Kids/immature players would (hopefully) be next to non-existant because of the fact that pre-TBC content is old and outdated which in turn makes it un-cool.

Would YOU be interested in joining a "Retro-Realm"? Ideas? Thoughts?

I'd go for that. It will never happen though.

Just uninstall the burning crusade and you are back to the original WoW.

No, wrong.

First your game won't run. Once you've purchased and activated TBC on your account not having it installed will make your game not work.

Second whether you own the expansion or not all the changes made by the expansion STILL effect your game.

Third most of the people that I know that want to go back to "old school" whatever want this because of the changes to most of the raids. Changes that are still in effect even if you don't own the TBC expansion. See  the above. (raid changes aren't my reasons, and this obviously doesn't apply to everyone that might want a roll back of sorts)

Fourth ****put something extremely rude here and apply it to yourself****

Seems like a good idea, whoever, could the number of people interested in playing vanilla WoW justify making new servers? Blizzard wants to promote their new features, not the old ones. I don't really see it happening, unless a LOT of people want it. Even then, how many current players actually played in vanilla WoW?

I'd go back to wow and pay them 15 a month for pre-tbc servers that aren't polluted with tbc.  It would be interesting if they threw in a bone or two as far as patching/updating the old game as far as raids/instances as well.

Lol, why does every MMORPG have the 'old schoolers'.

Quite frankly if the games never advanced in content or changes I'd leave after a few months. The whole point of development is that new ideas are introduced and then are either run with or removed. The 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' mentality doesn't apply to MMORPGs - they need to constantly evolve. Yes sometimes dev's make mistakes, they're only human, but can you seriously say that ALL the developments in WoW have been bad?

Horus was weak. Horus was a fool. He had the whole galaxy within his grasp and he let it slip away.

What if they just took all the old end game dungeons at 60 and 70 and just bumped them up to Heroic for lvl 80?

I'm strictly talking MC, AQ 20/40, ZG, and BWL.

They can upgrade the loot and difficulty (subject to the instance hehe).

I'd have a ball going back into BWL and MC!

They have infact upgraded Naxxramas and it's already being raided on my server by level 80 players :)

Just post a lot in their suggestion forum to make ideas come to life, I'm sure one of their people will think it's a great idea, unless they're busy eating baguette.

But then you couldn't have your elite guild community to reign supreme in PVP and PVE, to steamroll anyone who cross your path....

It would never work anyway, only people who would play on old realms would be the same people and you would get what they are complainnig about today, people looking the same, runing the same dungeons. Community would be even worse.

I would never go back to that horrid place!

Well I'd imagine the re-vamped old dungeons could be max 10-man raids and not 20 or 25.

It seems like something that could be a lot of fun with not much work to be done.

lmao, every game believes it was better when it first started, and they're usually right.

However, there was nothign special about original WoW, its virtually identical to current WoW.

WoW wasn't special to begin with, so...

I agree that games need to involve in order to continue to grow, and I personally don't think that the developments in the game have been bad.  With that said, I don't see how having a few servers with only pre-BC are an impediment.  Sometimes it's fun to go back and do the stuff the old way; it doesn't necessarily mean the old way was better or the new way is terrible..just means the old one was worth remembering.  As I said in another thread, there was just something that I (personally) felt was more fun about the original game prior to BC.  I enjoy the stuff BC added, but as far as questing/the world goes, I prefer the original.

Northrend added everything that was good in the original, mixed it up with the best from burning crusade, added the sweetest and most beautiful areas combined with high-resolution armor pieces. Can one ask for more?

Armor really is badass in Northrend, well, at least compared to that circus shit from Hellfire Penninsula and rest of Outland.

I seek the basis for the perfect game. A game that anyone can pick up and anyone can enjoy.

Not going to happen.  It's much harder to maintain stable code and fix bugs for two versions of the game.  Players on vanilla servers would probably still expect content patches and bug fixes, which would waste resources from the "main" game.

There are options out there if you want to play a specific version, but most are illegal in the US (private servers, etc).

What was the reason why I quit wow? WoW did a poor job "balancing" after BC.

I vote yes to classic servers because wotlk is like "omgezmodelolhunt@rd" and bc was like "mswarftw2v2". WoW classic was balanced and fun. Why "fix" what ain't broken, Blizzard?

also pre-TBC was not uncool.
