I see obvious troll posters that have pages of responses while good threads are getting burried. Well iam taking a stand. If i think the poster is a troll or trying to start a flame war(including super fanboys) i will no longer be responding because thats what they want. Thanks.
Also there needs to be a different word to describe a fanboy ( which i believe is someone who is just a fan of the game) and a super fanboy (those that are a fan of the game but annoy people and are blind to obvious game flaws.) This way there is a middle ground because the way i see it right now your a troll or a fanboy and all this does is start useless flaming back and forth. playing: Dragon Age |

Fully agree with the OP. Knowing how much WAR hits the mmo bull's eye with many, many people, some titles and posts make me feel like someone is trying to dislodge my nails with a pair of rusty pliers. It's hard to resist, but just don't give in on those who somehow are on a zealous campaign bashing this game for the sake of their own favourite MMO; their only aim is bad press it seems and flamebaiting is the tool for that; make a suitable horrifying title and it will stay on top anyway because it 'agro'd' the people that are actually playing the game and having a good time. (ofc I am NOT talking about constructive critisism here, we can't have enough of that). Regarding your question for an alternative word to 'fanboi' ... as a 32 year old male I am offended as well and have previously suggested the term; FANMAN lol |

You might think I'm Trolling, but the fact that my wife just started playing WAR, that I had to explain to her what "WASD" was and that despite not knowing jack shit about gaming she still had "FUN" proves that I'm not trolling. I'm speaking the truth. Have fun in the fetal position. |

Lol, just with any new release, WAR follows the same pattern: WAR is great, WAR sucks, fanboi v. troll, fanboi plea to ignore troll, troll plea to use the 'ignore' button, rinse and repeat for the first three or so months. I'm not saying that everyone here falls into either category, but people usually decide that if you post an objecting opinion ... well you're labled. Ico |

Troll to watch out for is neonwire. He loves to troll WAR threads and is really good at frightening away people posting in good threads so he can hijack them. Beware of him and his possible other accounts who, in Wikipedia terms, sock puppet the thread. I detest Wikipedia and I don't like that term either but it is what they do. I don't play WAR, not yet anyway, but it is evident some people are just out to cause trouble for the fun of it. |

Pretty much I just say. Troll goes on Ignore! Trolls usually disappear after a day or two. |

I certainly don't mind people who come in and have something constructive to say about WAR of a negative or positive nature. When someone comes in to say anying negative or postive in a non-constructive manner, I calmly and rationally explain that they are not being constructive and useful. I also explain that if they want any measure of respect from me (if they even care), they need to adjust their manner of addressing other people here in the forum. I certainly don't mind if someone disagrees with what I have to say, since I'm certainly not a major sage. I do mind if the best someone can do for themselves is to behave like an immature child. I think they are short changing themselves and the other people around them. I will always act to advocate mature and rational discussion on controversial issues, be they political, social, or just minor issues like choice of hobby. In the big picture WAR is just a minor issue. It's an entertainment some people do for fun, and other people don't enjoy. I fail to understand why so many people get deeply emotionaly invested in what other people think of the game. If you like it, great, come join us in the fun we are having here. If you don't like it, that's fine. Why do you think we need to hear about it constantly? You are not saving people from making a mistake and trying the game, people have the ability to determine for themselves what they like or don't like. You are trying to make something other people are having fun doing fail. That is the essence of a Troll or a Hater. They are only happy when someone else is being made to be unhappy. The OP thinks the only way to defeat a troll is to ignore them. While that is a valid strategy, it is not the only approach to the problem. My prefered approach is to treat them politely and rationally. When they see that I will not be unhappy regardless of what they say, most trolls move on after one or two attempts and refuse to discuss anything with me again. I'm often labled a troll by trolls because what I do doesn't give them the personal satisfaction they are looking to have. I make them unhappy because they can't make me unhappy, and thus I must be a troll. I prefer the term "counter troll" and I have successfully sent several trolls packing. All without leaving the bounds of polite rational conversation. I hope this helps. |

There is no rationalality to trolls , thier only objective is to make sure you or other people dont have fun. Constructive criticism is fine, there are obvious flaws that one could raise ..... but saying some crazy statements like this is the worst combat ever....having a thread title saying an honest review and then flame it to death.....ect....i was a lurker on this site for awhile and i stayed away cuz i knew that i would be doing this (battling the trolls and superfanbois that clutter this site.) These threads are 10 pages in length. There is obvious things you can do to tell if the poster is a troll or not, mainly by how aggressive his words are, or how much he compares it to his said game and how much greater it is then the game he/she is trolling. Why not start a seperate section on the forums section for flamewars and people can go in there to bash the game or glorify it, while other posters that have valid question, post meaningful information, or give critical analysis/reviews can flourish. playing: Dragon Age |
