Well now, some people like playing MMO's with cartoony graphics and pretty colors. Thats cool, to each their own.

Personally, I'd rather play a fantasy MMO that doesn't look like it was drawn by the people who did the Pokemon cartoons, but thats just me.

I like WoW because of the variety and balance in their spells and classes.  In WAR I like the public quests, the pvp drive behind it, the idea of raid vs raid castle fights, and realm vs realm.  But WAR does not have the polish WoW did, which is very sad.  I will be staying away from WoW because after awhile it becomes a boring repetative grindathon that you cant win compared to the people who have more time, but they sure have some unique and fun spells.  WAR's combat is not nearly as animated (in WoW you can tell which spells are being cast when which is nice) nor in depth.  They are both nice, but because WoW has frustraited me i will lean twoards WAR.

I'm playing WAR and it is fun but in no way am I in love with the game. If people don't like WAR then it is no skin off my back, it's really their preference. Right now WAR has an advantage because other than WOW there is no really good mmo out there that people are in love with. Thpugh I admit, as soon as Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 hit the stands its goodbye WAR and mmos for quite awhile.

Anyone judging an MMO it's launch month is pretty goofed in the head.  I seem to remember a certain Blizzard MMO with serious issues with lag, bugs and queue's at launch.   But that's aside the point.

WoW players will stay with WoW, and I'm glad for it.  You an spot the WoW head's in WAR all ready.  "But I need my gear" types, the ones that dont' get that winning the objective in a scenario is worth it and go chasing a single player while the other side rushes off to win...

It's pretty obvious who get's it and who does not.  WAR is not WoW, despite the superficial similarities between them.  In the end, WAR will appeal to anyone sick of grinding the computer, and WoW will appeal to those that prefer the more steady challenge OF the computer.

I for haven't touched WoW in two months.. and ya know what?  I don't miss it a whit.   WAAGGHHH!!!

1 thing? RvR? And what exactly does WoW have?  Guess what it is? Its 1 thing.  Gear.

The game is 100% Gear based.  And from what Ive read from beta testers the gear gap just gets even bigger from 70-80.

So everything you do in WoW is for gear.  With out good gear you can no do anything.  So the game is 100% absolute gear based.

Now you may enjoy that but I sure don't.

How do you get gear? PvP "wellfare" epics and Raids.  Huge mondo time sinks.  The game was great wonderful game before they added in raids. 

RvR and pvp is the same shit, least you get to fight cross servers  vs other players not his BS were their are only like 4k to a server, and even servers that are full seem empty, and the game is all about BGS, so how is War not WoW?????? Scenarios = bgs, thats all ppl do and the Pve is horrendous

I'm an MMO Veteran, starting with EQ in 2000ish Kunark Era and I found Warhammer to lack the control and brilliant game design of WoW.  It cannot possibly hope to touch World of Warcraft in every department.  The only thing it has is it's 'twist' of RVR.   Every MMORPG these days has their special 'twist' to try and seperate themselves from Wow, but their overall experience falls far short.  Even if RVR is soo important to you that you have to play the game just for that feature, the  overall experience will always be far diminished compared to WoW.

WAR feels rough and outsourced, like every part has been outsourced at the last minute and tied together.  The game doesn't have the flow of WoW, theres no internal consistency and it just doesn't feel fun to play.

WAR feels like a game designed by Javascript "programmers" instead of game designers.

There is just no comparison.   The Scenarios are nothing more than blander, more imbalanced battlegrounds with poor design and a few useless 'twists' that serve no purpose than to lure people into thinking the gameplay is deeper.   The combat is disgraceful, it's far more poorly designed than WoW, where everything connects and flows and it just feels like superior design compared to WAR's patchwork quilt of a game.

And the general gaming population know this to be true.  Not most of you guys for sure, but our opinions here are not superior to the silent masses, nor are they indicative at all of what's going on in the real world.   This place is a hotbed of negativity and you cannot see the wood for the trees, WoW is a far superior game and this is not personal opinion or blind fanboism, this is simply the way things are.  You don't have to like it, but to deny it is just lying to yourself.  You will never understand why you enjoy gaming until you accept and understand the fantastic aspects of WoW, even if not to your personal tastes, to hide behind ignorance by making false claims that your game of choice exceeds in every area is self-dellusion.

Warhammer is an OK game, it will forever be OK and will forever live in the shadow of WoW and perhaps the game that eventually surpasses it.

I agree Warhammers launch is far from smooth, not sure what the people saying it is is smoking. Right now in the EU there are countless problems with the servers the most annoying being the authentication errors that are seemingly random.

Plus theres all that crap before launch, etc

 

 

Personally I think warhammer is a very mediocre game, but half the stuff that people put across about why you should play WoW instead of War is pretty pointless and some of it plain crap. Like for instance people not looking the same, you must be playing a different game to the one I played for almost 4 years because most people look the same in WoW.

WoW has been out for 4 years, half the problems War has can be fixed and I am sure in 4 years time it will be much better game if its still around. Lack of gear variety, problems with the AH, gear imbalence/itemisation, balance for classes, and population etcetera can be fixed with time, hopefully sooner rather than later especially regarding population.

As for PvE they are both the same, only thing that seperates them is the 4 year content gap, other than the mechanics are exactly the same, even down to the AI intelligence, and easyness of the game. Public quests are similar to daily quests, they get boring after the first time you do them because they are the same thing each time.

Both games are as ugly as each other its like comparing two very ugly twins to each other and trying to figure out which one is better looking. So it is probably best to concentrate on the gameplay differences.

The PvP systems in both games are the same, only thing that differenciates them is how PvP is rewarded in each game, and where the PvP is regulated to in each game. Mythic have even made the same mistake Blizzard made, they are rewarding people for doing scenarios more than those who do RvR, the effects are obvious in the game barely anyone does RvR unless you are on a very populated server.

Combat is very slow and boring in War. But I sure that is down to the lack of polish, and the terrible animations. WoWs combat is the same in essence, it is just better executed, again it also has 4 years of polish to improve the combat. Although at launch the combat was not as bad as Wars.

Community, they are like the graphics at the end of the day, both games suffer from terrible communities. Probably because most War players are ex-WoW players, and both games are as bad as each other when it comes to promoting being sociable. Although I think Wars at the moment is slightley worse since the community rarely talks, and when they do talk its usually to shout L2P, u sux, etc Not really sure what they can do to improve that, maybe when people have gotten more used to the game they might start chatting.

wow was good two years ago but now there is a new guy in town called war, and its a better, more ejoyable game than raidcraft could ever be.

As for myself. Tried it. Didn't like it. At all. Frankly, if all MMO companies went bankrupt tomorrow so that WAR would be the only MMO in business, I'd just leave the MMO genre for good and go back to pen and paper RPGs. That's how much i enjoyed WAR.

I've been playing WoW forever. I use to do the old honor grind. My favorite class was always the warrior. Leveled up to 58 as a fury and then respecced to Arms.

I pre-ordered WotLK before reading the patch notes. What a hack job they did on Warriors. That's when I decided I would give Warhammer a chance.

 WoW dev team seems to be missing a few doses of medication as of late so I'm steering clear.

Sure there are similarties, however I still believe that both games offer a different option to players that desire a different style of MMOs.  WAR is a lot more RvR, PvP based, obviously.  WAR is not as gear based due to the other options, keep ownership, renown rank, guild rank, city unlocks, city ranks ect.  WoW is going to be more of the raid style of game that many players desire.  To each their own.  For those that don't have 8 hours in a row to raid then I feel WAR may be a little less time demanding.

Why play WOW or WAR? They're both the same kiddie junk. EZ mode mmo. No skill required just time, and a fashion show LOOK AT MY PURPLE GLOVES.. huh???

I think most people who say they prefer WoW over WAR because of POLISH and ARENA and all that bullshit don't releaize one game is like 7 days old, while one game ... launched in November 23rd 2004? (I played original beta and played at launch, on and off retiring with an epic'd out 70 hunter with arena gear).

What do you expect, did you play WoW back then like I did? Remeber the bug where you'd loot something band be stuck kneeling for ten minutes with red latency until your server crashed? Or what "PVP" was like before they added battlegrounds in? (and how you had to actually go wait in line at the actual portal??)

WAR has been the smoothest most amazing MMORPG release to date, imagine it's potential in even 5 or 6 months. Already beyond fantastic, with so much to offer.

I believe alot of people who max out fast in WoLK play it a few months and realize its the same damn instance grind, same damn pvp gear grind, same damn arena grind, same damn daily grind, OH BUT ONE AREA HAS SIEGE PVP!! Nobody world pvp'ed anyway. try a game that is entirely siege world pvp. My guild (200+ players) sieged an enemy keep, and held it for over three hours to an equal if not more mass of Order players.

This is what PVP is suppose to be. and the PVE is great fun as well, public quests are a great idea!

As far as flaming goes it's probably going to come since so many seem to dislike Blizzard, I played wow for the first 2 years but got bored of it and haven't had the desire to return really I'm just not that impressed with the direction they take with the game. I think most would do well to atleast respect Blizzards production values at least when they put it out it does what it is supposed to (for the most part) and for that I will always be a fan.

Now the comparison is a bit unfair I think because you are quite simply comparing a game that is years old to something that just dropped and in fact is trying to compete most directly with WOW for it's market so yeah I'm sure it has ecerything wow has and more but you have to expect that since it was what they set out to do WOTLK will probably have tons of stuff that WAR has and though I don't question your right to play whatever you choose be it either WOW or WAR just remember that the only things you pointed out that makes you think WAR is better is graphics which is a purely opinionated criteria I've heard som say the graphics in WAR are horrible and that they love WOWs cartoony style(lord knows why) either way I hope WAR can live up to WOWs standards which can only be good for all gamers.

Blizzard is a great game company! No doubt about it. I respect Blizz more than I respect Mythic. I played WoW for a while but I don't really care for the game that much. Even though I am not that enthusiastic about WoW, it doesn't make me think that Blizzard sucks at all.

I think WAR is a good game as well. It has some flaws though. I think the worst bit about WAR is the population problems with Destro vs Order. Almost all of the Euro servers have a higher Destro population to Order, except for one RP server. It really does matter if you are outnumbered 1:3 Order:Destro. Since there are huge incentives to winning I don't ever see the populations balancing out unfortunately. In WoW Horde is almost always smaller than Alliance, but it seems to hardly matter since there are no real bonuses to doing well in PvP on a server-wide scale. Yes there are some incentives in some of the TBC areas, but they're really minor imo in comparison to WAR's bonuses for having keeps, etc.

I do prefer WAR to WoW so far though because I'm a PvPer. I really didn't enjoy PvP in WoW, especially in the BGs. I loved DAoC's RvR so I am happy to fight out in WAR's frontiers even if I do get steamrolled a lot by Destro. I don't have time to do raids at all. The PQs make a nice alternative. I also love leveling up and gaining money on killing other players. I think that's a path Blizz should take for the PvP servers imo.

Shouldn't a game be fun from the starting? It is one of the worst agruments I have heared. Its a videogame, its is ment to be fun. Maybe some people just need to accept that there are people that think WAR is just crap.
