So that's potentially 600k who are playing WAR atm....

And I can safely say i'll never re-sub to WoW... WAR is just FAR superior to it... in every way apart from polish (which it'll be eventually) and GOA's customer service...

If WotLK is as bad as it looks, then WAR is going to be the new WoW.

So Warhammers 400 thousand subscribers are equal to WoW's six million subscribers. Can I have some of what you're having?

WoW only has around 2.5 million NA subscribers actually. But yeah his point still doesn't make sense.

Us Euro's are still here too and that number of 400k includes Euro's, so you can basically double WoW 's number there before it can even be used in a comparison :)

not sure what basis in reality the quoted has; but, blizzard does have a LOT of information centrally and easily located for wow players.

mythic doesn't give enough a crap about their customers to do the same.

the number of frustrated players will continue to grow and soon.... war will be the new daoc.

wow honestly has nothing to worry about.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Many people get distraught over numbers, but i might mention the obvious. You can have 100 million subs ,they won't all be on your server EVER.Most games carry around 5k a server, and it can fluctuate of course depending on time of day or what day it is.

From my experience a game ONLY gets frustrating when the populace falls below 1500 at any given time.I have played when there is like 1300 on several occasions but you can notice the difference. Then you have to take into consideration a VERY big factor>>>.where do you fall into the majority of the active populace? For example FFXI the majority are end gamers level 75,even if the server had 2500 it could very well feel dead to a noob.I found this to even be true IN WOW on a full server,re rolling a new player in noob zones,it was extremely dead.Same goes for most  older games.

The over all subscriptions a game has means NOTHING,it only tells how much cash the developer is making,it will have ZERO bearing on your individual server or populace.Sometimes games are slow to make changes ..example EQ2,there populace dies a little there servers still squander around 800-1000,that is horrible and they need to suck it up and merge servers.I remember the negative side of a full server as well, taking an hour to form a great party only to find out all the leveling zones are over camped,so really through experience i have found it takes a nice medium and a great community that makes for a perfect gaming experience.

As with AoC, the real test is to KEEP that 400K or gain some 2-3 months after launch.

No WAR won't be the new WoW and I doubt will ever break 1 mill, maybe 1.5 mill max.  That doesn't mean it isn't a good game for a ton of people.  It just depends on what people like.  The game only needs 250k-300k subs to break even so 600k subs is pretty good profit if it keeps them.

Interesting is that he speaks of players connected to War hammer-online.

He doesn't mention specific US or EU. Read carefully...

I had calculated about 400 K total due to the server loads in EU (and  the normal 4 to 1 overhead). Because with a new game 4 to 1 is a normal proportion.

After 2 months you could indeed have a 5 to 1 overhead and lesser playing times.

Good to have that confirmation - now we can watch the coming weeks and server stats.

AoC had a far better selling on launch, but we all know how that story ended.

Publicly-trade company excused sound like the PR guy from AOC.

If they have 400k they gonna piss their pants with happiness and make another public announcement for that.

Don't forget that most MMO's *peak* at or around release and significant gains in numbers after that are extremely rare.

You realize that WoW has over 10million subs right? I'd say its safe to say that what they have so far is not going to impress WoW especially since pretty none of those subs were playing WoW when WAR launched. AoC is the game that will be destroyed because of WAR not WoW.

heh WAR was never intended to be a WoW killer it was planned and designed to be the number 2 mmo behind it. Now if you compare WARs numbers to WoWs launch numbers then maybe the OP's remarks might have made more sense. Btw i am a former WoW fanatic that went to WAR because of boredom and im luving it. That and after being depressed on how bad lick beta was im sticking with WAR.

Potentially 600.000? yes or 750.000 with a 1:10 ratio. But read the article:

Using a ratio of 1 to 5 PCU to players, we have approximately 375,000 players but using a 1 to 8 ratio, we have 600,000. Since it's a new game and most people are playing off the free month, the ratio should be on the lower end. So I guess it's realistic to assume about 400,000 or so are playing Warhammer Online. Comments welcome. We won't get these numbers confirmed by EA, since it's a "publicly-traded" company...

And this is based in a vague estimation by ... the almighty alknowing Mark Jacobs

Yes but I think the sales will peak in the coming two weeks.

Wow players just wait and don't have anything to do except wait (gear reset and saving gold). So I think an extra 300K coming form Wow is certainly possible in the following weeks.

It depends if Blizzard launches the pre launch patch the next two weeks or not. The downside is that these are the players that will jump right off, the moment Blizz says "Booh".

The other players are more interesting for WAR as of now: the MMO less, the ex MMO bored players and smaller (dead) MMO's need to be addressed now for long term interest.

This is a potential market of 600K fixed, but most are afraid I think after the AoC disaster.

indeed AoC scared off alot of people. But once they play WAR they will see it isnt a giant piece of crap like AoC was. Oh and Mythic never lied about any aspects of the game like a certain developer which i wont mention but we all know what im talking about so theres really no use hiding it eh

-smacks forehead-

No. No no no.

600,000, much less 400k, is not greater than several million. Not in any math, in any universe, in any reality. Ever.

And, Jimminy H. Cricket... why are people so damned obsessed over the popularity of "their game" compared to another?

Are you playing the game for fun? Or as some strange popularity contest played against millions of equally anonymous people? Is your personal enjoyment of the game somehow affected if the game has 400k instead of 800k?

And really, how many times can people go through this crap before it gets old? Any numbers Mythic gives are going to be "lies" or "fabrication" according to the legion of forum-certified arm-chair experts who love to tout their "comprehensive analysis" anyway... Just as it is with any other MMO dev, for all the same reasons.

The people who hate a game will never want to acknowledge it's a success - no matter how well it's doing. And the people who love a game will never acknolwedge it's not a success, despite how poorly it's doing.

It's the same old carousel.

I'm sure WAR will do fine as long as Mythic doesn't blow it (and despite the prediction of fans or nay-sayers, only time will tell on that).. There should always be plenty of people to interact with.
