"Conan has by far the best looking gear in any game yet" Huh, are we talking about the same game? Sure graphics are nice, but, best looking? Unless brown is your favorate color and you don't mind everything that shade, to say the equipment looks drab is an understatement in my book. |

Don't forget that AoC is aiming more for realism with muted tones instead of bright primary colours. That said the interesting AoC armour is the NPC stuff which was shown in most of the screenshots. Quest reward armour is generally dull and identical to everything else out there. Crafted stuff is similar. What does look nice are the high level sets, the epic sets and the pvp sets. The problem is there is one each of these sets per class. WAR armour is equally unimpressive (and much lower resolution) and my Witch Elf looks a lot like any other Witch Elf but at least it doesn't look like most of the other classes which is one of the failings of AoC. Also, the WAR armour has fancy names and varying stats whereas AoC has 80 levels of "Scything Wristguards" which all add the same damage type. In AoC there are a few interesting blues and the occasional purple with a decent look and name but until recently they were really hard to get so a lot of people missed out on them. If Funcom really want to turn the game around they'll look next at itemisation. The game is already immersive, it just needs to be rewarding and make people want to invest in their characters. |

Originally posted by DarVashiel I often wonder what the roman legion or any of today's army, navy, air-force and marines would be like if they got to choose what they the wore on the battlefield. Of course this is just a game, and everyone wants to look good, but It's not about the way you look or dress in the game. It's whats inside that set us apart from one another. So we look alike. big deal...
This isn't the roman legion, this is a MMORPG where players want to express themselves and their character. My character in AoC is NOT part of any single group or faction. Now...if you are talking about Guilds...Customisation options make it even more feasible to have a Guild Look and Style of dress so that people recognise the guild - like the Roman Army, or Navy etc. Ergo even with your argument, the ability to customise a character's look can only help, not hurt. A quick way to do it would be to have two clothing slots - One for stats/abilities, the other one would be what people see your character wearing. |

One of the big things that players like to do in MMO's is individualize themselves. . The lack there of, seems to be pretty common in most of these newer MMO's. I think many of the developers don't realize how important that is. |

I dissagree totally. When i played WoW people who rolled need on armour or weapons which posed no use to them at all would realy piss me off. You play for an hour together in a pug to get some snotty world of kidcraft warrior to roll a need on your epic spellcasting pants and then for him to say " well there better than the ones i'm wearing " How annoying, i just wanner teleport myself to where he is playing and rip he's eyes out and piss in he's empty skull. |
