yesterday there were 13k xfire users playing war... and 99k playing wow. I think its more then a single person don't you?? This is a pretty sizable sample of the game playing population. From this one could even speculate that there are 1/8 the number of active subs playing war that are playing wow. Only issue is I've heard that xfire isn't used in china or some asian areas so you would need ot figure out how to cut the number to just western populations. In any event these numbers probably indicate that war has more then 500k active customers at the moment. Even better numbers would be something like lotr and aoc. lotr is around 2k and aoc 1.9k. If Lotr is 150k subs then Aoc is probably around the same number. War is about 6x lotr so maybe it could be as high as 900k-1m. Bottom line is that war is doing very well for their launch. What xfire will show very well are the trends moving forward. |

RMT = The death of MMOs as we know them. |
I'm so sick of this Xfire bullshit. NONE of the gamers I know use it, and most have never even heard of it. My guess is that the majority of people posting these Xfire numbers are the kids that use it, and don't know any better. |

The problem is, it is statistics. It still counts as a viable way to measure/represent the larger PC gaming community as a whole. Much like www.gamerdna.com or other sites where people can record/track their gaming data. Since the Xfire crowd plays PC games, they represent, admittedly, a smaller portion of the PC gaming community. However this is still a viable reference to use as a measure of the whole. Statistics functions this way as full/complete/perfect data is unachievable. While the whole market doesn't use this measurement technique, the bunches that don't can be ignored as the people who don't use it really don't change the data all that much. Xfire represents an adequate variety to be used as a represenation of all PC gamers as a whole. People might not like it being used as a reference tool, but that does not mean it isn't one. Steam is also an alternative to Xfire but still does the same thing. Originally posted by ethion With this many players being reported, the only way to disprove the data collected by xfire is to have another source of data that disproves it. Another program that does the same thing that xfire does that people trust. People will choose to ignore what they do not like, fear what they do not understand, and persecute the heretic and the mutant. It's human nature. |

You are correct that it is currently the number 2 mmo in sales (see Amazon Link) but the sad thing is that it is currently second to the yet to be released WotLK expansion.
But, yeah, grats to being number two. I don't see why it wouldn't hold that slot for some time to come. What's going to challenge it? |

Any new or returning player to WOW, send me a PM for some help getting started. |
Of course Warhammer is #2. Who is it competing against? AOC and LotRO. At the end of the day.. WOW is always going to have >20x's more subscribers than Warhammer. Wait until the new videos are released of Lake Wintergrasp and players see what real seiging looks like. " Omg.. what do you mean, I can actually control and place the seige weapons" How many times will players tolerate playing scenarios that are model themselves after the two worst WOW battlegrounds while WOW is raising the bar with the Normandy Battlegound. How long are players going to mindlessly zerg the same keep gates while WOW players are actually tactically placin their seige machinary and blowing up bridges and destroying walls. Warhammer was a step up from WOW's pvp in BC.. but it will be a huge step backwards from Lake Wintergrasp. |

Yes I can, can you really be defending it? I see you use it, did I insult you in some way? Do you actually believe you can truly rely on a sampling of players using this thing as a guide to how well is doing overall?

Originally posted by Azrile I'll keep it up as long as WoW continues to be balanced to PvE because it has never been a pvp game. I don't care what the seiges are capable of because the pvp overall is an unbalanced suckfest. lmao And how long will WoW fans continue to suck the teet of Blizzard for more grinding? |
