I really hope he sticks to this.  It would be good.  I have already seen spammers and I would love to have a way to ignore them without having to select every name....they have infinate choices.

A guy can make an add-on that blocks gold selling messages. A whole company like Blizzard or Mythic can't.  Wonder why?

And no they don't block other messages by accident, at least not so often as being a problem. Gold selling IS a problem.

He says gold sellers have offered more money to Mythic to allow their companies to operate than they receive from box sales, if this is the case then they have absolutely no chance of stopping it as there is too much money involved.

They are fighting a losing battle just like the drug war / American prohibition of alcohol, they may as well legitimise it which would allow some kind of regulation,  or just start selling it themselves at low cost but tweak the economy to compensate for it.  

Gold would be much cheaper if they did this so there would not be as much incentive for people to try to bypass the offical gold selling route.

I have never bought gold or powerlevelling but it is plainly obvious that it cannot be stopped.  If you disagree then log on to WAR in six months time and gape in awe at the gold spam.

Will make no difference what so ever.  Log onto wow and bet there is gold spam.  Those laws are only enforcable against people in the US who are not the people who are selling it.

Also, in the beginning, these gold selling companies would give money to the Mmo owners as cutbacks for such big business...and it is big business, whatever the moral issue is.

Times are hopefully changing in the western style mmo and maybe they'll stick to the asian grinders, though it'll be a while 'til, if ever. we see that.

The thing about fighting a "war" against anything is you have to keep fighting it till you actually beat them so far down into the dirt they can't get back up, or won't get back up. Blizzard sued, won, then sat their fat asses back down and stopped doing jack shit against the rest of them.

It will always be profitable, the gold sellers can just increase their prices to compensate, there are always enough people with too much money and not enough time willing to pay for it.   It looks like making gold so expensive to farm that people won't be willing to pay would be too costly for the developer.

If it was economically feasible for mmo companies to eradicate it then blizzard would have done it by now, they must have spent millions and there is still plenty of gold spam.  

Blizzard might have won that case but did they ever receive any compensation or the court costs, probably not.  A judge in the US can rule against a gold farming company in another country and award $1000000 compensation but it's basically impossible to make someone in Asia pay it.  If they took them to court in their own country then I bet they still would not see 1 cent back to cover their expenses.

They can either legitmise it or make games where it's obsolete by design and that would be difficult to do.

      I dont know how but LoTRO definitely needs to stop their gold sellers...the game is a nightmare if you are in Bree for any length of time....It is literally non stop gold spam in general chat......
