I only read the first page of this thread . . . but . . .

The thing that stood out to me was that the OP said he had limited playing time. From the looks of his posts, he is 100% PVE. I would love to see a screenshot of the front page of the Tome to see just how much he has played. Probably not a lot  - certainly not enough to write a true review.

Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they''re yours.

The OP is just wrong. There's little more to say.

He has barely played the game to have any valid or credible input. It's like reviewing the game while still in closed beta during a focused testing period.

His post should be read as a very limited and, frankly, skewed editorial.

In short. He's reviewing a game based on such a limited play experience, it's laughable.

Yes. The game isn't perfect. No. The game isn't horrible, or anywhere near as bad as the OP makes it out to be.

If you want a good, balanced and fair review read the article posted here:

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/239/feature/2240

Don't waste your time elsewhere. Fanboys willl defend and insult erroneously and haters will ALWAYS find something to complain about.

My experience of the game is what a game should be: Fun.

And lastly, to the OP, when referring to playing a different racial pairing -- the person meant go to a flight master and queue for scenario RvR in a different zone, not roll a different race/class entirely, or -- even better, group with someone in another zone and queue up for... wait for it, TWO different scenario RvR.

Shock. I know.

It is very obvious you know nothing about the game and did not bother to read quests or follow the story line. You are not locked into your race! You can go to all 3 areas Tier 1-4 no matter what race you chose at the start. You can even quest there, what a surprise!

Go to a Warcamp (you should be brought there by the bad linear PvE at around level 5-6). Go to the flightmaster and fly over to Chaos vs. Empire or wherever. You should even have found a Quest in that first warcamp that asks you to use the flightmaster to visit someone over in another racial pairing and it is worth 2000-3000 exp. Got to hate the linear gameplay don't you?

Please inform yourself before you do another review as it is blatantly obvious you have not even grasped the basics of this game

I am very surprised to read that you've had the servers down so much.  I have never once seen the servers down at any time that I've been on to play, and I've probably put in over 40 hours of play since head start began.  It's possible that you are on one of the couple servers that I've seen occasional Herald announcements about, which is unfortunate if it's true.  But in all fairness, I have to say that WAR has had the smoothest launch of any new MMO I've ever played (including WoW), with considerably less server down time.  I also remember how when WoW launched, EVERY server had queues from 30 minutes to over an hour.  I know they're frustrating to encounter, but they are a necessary evil at launch.  If there were no server caps, then yeah there would be no queues.  But with no queues there would be no incentive to start up on a lower population server, which would be very detrimental to the game as a whole.  A game like WAR that relies a great deal on RvR action requires that the realms be reasonably balanced.

As for the PvE and the boring combat, mileage will certainly vary.  I solo a lot, and have had zero complaints about WAR's PvE.  Overall, I've enjoyed it a lot more than WoW's.  The storytelling is better.  Public Quests are a ton of fun, with some of them being extremely challenging.  I really like the concept of being able to get to a dungeon boss-type (or even raid-type) encounter in the course of just 10-20 minutes and without the need to spend an hour just getting a group together and getting everyone in the same place.

I can assure you that as you level your character combat will get a lot more interesting.  Tactics require strategy to set up in a way that will be useful, and a good player will constantly switch betwen his five tactics load outs depending upon what he's fighting at any given time.  For example, at level 17 I just got a core tactic which hugely increases my resistance to spiritual damage.  That's useless against a squig herder, but damned helpful against a Zealot.  However, you won't REALLY be making heavy use of your tactics until in your 20's for the simple reason that it takes a while to get enough for distinct load outs.  Morale abilities, on the other hand, are a huge help right from the start.  By the time you reach your late teens you'll have a couple rank 1 morale abilities and a rank 2.  This forces you to constantly be making choices.  Do you use your rank 1 right now, or do you let your morale continue to build and go for the rank 2?  If you use the rank 1, which one do you want to use?  It's also in your teens that you start getting your first crowd control abilities.

In short, WAR's character progression is designed in a very logical manner.  FIRST it gives you your archetype core abilities during the course of levels 1-10.  For example, by level 10 all healers will have very similar abilities that make them effective healers.  All tanks will have similar abilities that make them effective tanks.  This means that regardless of which class you choose, you will be useful, effective and wanted when it comes to fulfilling your archetype's role.  After rank 10, your class starts to differentiate itself and the game starts to introduce you to more complicated skills.  This continues for the rest of the game.  But the game does pretty much give you stuff one ability at a time.  That seems slow at first, but it lets you really get to know your new skills and master them before more gets thrown at you.  ALL of your abilities are important.  In other games, I've usually had about half my skills turn out to be things I used once in a blue moon, and about 1/4 of the skills are things I never use at all.  In WAR, I use every ability, constantly.  I pay very close attention to what I'm fighting, and I there are some abilities that are especially deadly against specific foes.

One last thing:  Did you know that you can queue for multiple scenarios at once?  If you're having trouble getting into one, go to a war camp and queue for that race's scenario.   Then use the flight master to go to each of the  other two races and queue for their scenarios as well.  Jump into the first one that becomes available.  If you do this, I think you'll find that you never have to wait long at all.

Well for someone who has a business at home and a LAN running to his home... ummm, your computers aren't as good as you once thought.  You still running Windows ME?

I have a decent rig and I can run WAR with SLI mode off, on max settings and have no slow downs.  FPS looks good too.

I have my own opinions on WAR, but I'll wait a few more days.  The game runs smooth on low end computers... that is part of who Mythic was targetting... worked for WoW.

Just give it some time.. but for rvr/pvp you need to, like others said go to a different camp.  Go up a tier lol thats what some of us did in closed beta or we just went to chaos, elf or what ever where there was PVP/RVR.

Everyone is different. I find tons of PVE to do. But trust me there is so much more to this game then just pve and rvr lol..

'cough' Elitist 'cough'   Heh, well, it takes all types.  Actually, if you had bothered to read further, there was lots of stuff.  :)

"The OP clearly states that "it hasn't even been out a week" when complaining about servers being down. Yet, claims that this is a week's worth of review in the thread title. That is a discrepancy, which makes me question the validity and reliability of this review all the more."

Well, ok, more like a 5 day review.    Last week, this week, 5 days, whatever works for you.  For the record, this was just what it says it is, a review based on my limited playing time.  Nothing more, nothing less.

I am in Elitist? Are you serious? It look me 8 months to level a guy to 70 in WoW because I stopped playing a few times and did other things for awhile, and just generally play games at my leisure. I don't find value in you're opinion because you complain servers down to fix a game is a "game breaker", aka making you an idiot. Which you've since proven by calling me an Elitist for disagreeing with you.

**EDIT** Maybe its because I have 5 stars on this forum he thinks I'm elitist...
