Well that is a pretty lame remark i am 29 and use Xfire for chatting in game, for personal Game statistics and as a form of communication between gaming buddy's Seems to me that some of the 12-16 year olds out there may just be a little bit more grown up then you seriously get over yourself.

This is the best quote ever. Well, you figure.

Steam is way better than Xfire. I don't think you can get one of these dynamic images that shows how many hours you've played, but why the fuck would you want one, seriously. It's not like anybody cares what you play. and which game you play the most.

This is the best signature ever. Well, it is really up to you to decide. :x

i'm 34, my brothers are 26 and 24, we've used it for years, my 13 year old brother has never heard of it.  hey cool sig you have there though, seems like one of those ones the 11-15 Year old crowd uses to show off their characters.

Why, because WoW is miles above WAR? Or that the Wotlk expansion is outselling a fresh game like WAR even at WAR's release date? :)

I don't think WoW fanbois need any excuses ;)

Still makes Xfire stats meaningless for MMO comparisons  and the statement as it says in the title misleading without the mention of Xfire ^^

*Use* the Xfire stats and compare times and time spent today and a few weeks ago and you may have something. (Like comment on a dropoff in the time played in WoW for example since WAR released).

But then I think that's beyond people that can't even read press statements correct and just cry "Zomg 1,5 million units sold to customers!" even though it *clearly* says they didn't :)

And people call xfire an invasive program?  why exactly would i ever have steam running if i'm not about to play a steam game?  i start it up to play cs or css and then when i'm done i exit out of it.

yesterday there were 13k xfire users playing war... and 99k playing wow.  I think its more then a single person don't you??  This is a pretty sizable sample of the game playing population.  From this one could even speculate that there are 1/8 the number of active subs playing war that are playing wow.  Only issue is I've heard that xfire isn't used in china or some asian areas so you would need ot figure out how to cut the number to just western populations.  In any event these numbers probably indicate that war has more then 500k active customers at the moment.

Even better numbers would be something like lotr and aoc.  lotr is around 2k and aoc 1.9k.  If Lotr is 150k subs then Aoc is probably around the same number.  War is about 6x lotr so maybe it could be as high as 900k-1m.

Bottom line is that war is doing very well for their launch.  What xfire will show very well are the trends moving forward.

I'm so sick of this Xfire bullshit. NONE of the gamers I know use it, and most have never even heard of it. My guess is that the majority of people posting these Xfire numbers are the kids that use it, and don't know any better.

The problem is, it is statistics. It still counts as a viable way to measure/represent the larger PC gaming community as a whole. Much like www.gamerdna.com or other sites where people can record/track their gaming data.

Since the Xfire crowd plays PC games, they represent, admittedly, a smaller portion of the PC gaming community. However this is still a viable reference to use as a measure of the whole. Statistics functions this way as full/complete/perfect data is unachievable.

While the whole market doesn't use this measurement technique, the bunches that don't can be ignored as the people who don't use it really don't change the data all that much. Xfire represents an adequate variety to be used as a represenation of all PC gamers as a whole.

People might not like it being used as a reference tool, but that does not mean it isn't one.

Steam is also an alternative to Xfire but still does the same thing.

With this many players being reported, the only way to disprove the data collected by xfire is to have another source of data that disproves it.

Another program that does the same thing that xfire does that people trust.
However Xfire was made to collect this data, and yet now people don't trust it.

People will choose to ignore what they do not like, fear what they do not understand, and persecute the heretic and the mutant.

It's human nature.

Someday my game will come.

9/22/08 10:28:10 AM#30

You are correct that it is currently the number 2 mmo in sales (see Amazon Link) but the sad thing is that it is currently second to the yet to be released WotLK expansion.

But, yeah, grats to being number two. I don't see why it wouldn't hold that slot for some time to come. What's going to challenge it?

Any new or returning player to WOW, send me a PM for some help getting started.

9/22/08 11:16:06 AM#31

Of course Warhammer is #2.   Who is it competing against?  AOC and LotRO.   At the end of the day.. WOW is always going to have >20x's more subscribers than Warhammer.

Wait until the new videos are released of Lake Wintergrasp and players see what real seiging looks like.

" Omg.. what do you mean, I can actually control and place the seige weapons"
"  Bombers and Jet fighters???"

How many times will players tolerate playing scenarios that are model themselves after the two worst WOW battlegrounds while WOW is raising the bar with the Normandy Battlegound.  How long are players going to mindlessly zerg the same keep gates while WOW players are actually tactically placin their seige machinary and blowing up bridges and destroying walls.

Warhammer was a step up from WOW's pvp in BC.. but it will be a huge step backwards from Lake Wintergrasp.

If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available

Can you really be asking this question?  Seriously....

Yes I can, can you really be defending it?  I see you use it, did I insult you in some way? Do you actually believe you can truly rely on a sampling of players using this thing as a guide to how well is doing overall?

I'll keep it up as long as WoW continues to be balanced to PvE because it has never been a pvp game.  I don't care what the seiges are capable of because the pvp overall is an unbalanced suckfest.  lmao

And how long will WoW fans continue to suck the teet of Blizzard for more grinding?

Lol!  Now THIS is a WoW fanboy if I've ever seen one, boys and girls.  WoW may be good with the pve, but they have just about the worst implementation of pvp than all the other MMOs.  Copying off of WoW bgs my ass.  WAR's pvp is light years ahead of WoW's sophomoric attempt, and WoW STILL doesn't have it right after overhauling it multiple times.  WoW's pvp is nothing ut a boring repetitive grindfest, as far as I'm concerned.  And that's the way they like it.  Because they don't have to worry about the unpredictability of open world pvp (which will always be the king of fun, as far as I'm concerned).  Instanced pvp will NEVER match open world pvp in sheer lasting fun factor.  Never.    Nice try though, WoW fanboy.

As for WAR's current #2 position, my money is that it will only grow from here., baby!

You didn't insult me... I insulted you.

if there are 10000 water bufalo living in an area and I tag 2% or 200 of them with a tracker and a year later I look for my tracked bufalo and find that they have moved to another location can I say that the 100k buffalo have also moved?  If 50 have moved and 150 stayed can I say that 75k of the total stayed and 25K have moved?  The answer is yes within a degree of certainty.  ie it won't be 100% accurate but it will give a fairly accurate measure.

If I say 2% of all war players have xfire.  Then if that 2% decreases so does the 100% proportionally.  The accuracy of this is affected by various factors which can sKew the results some but it is extremely unlikely as has been born out by past results that the skewing is significant.

As I said in another X-fire thread,  X-fire can't find WAR on my computers (one with XP and one with Vista). Is this a problem for other europeans? If it is  X-fire numbers should be even better considering both WoW and AoC (for example) works with X-fire european side of things.

edit: spelling

MMOs require more reasoning and imagination than most stereotypically ''adult'' activities.

Excuse me, did you just compare the steaming, stinking pile that is AoC with the quality, gorgeous--though not ultra-innovative--game that is LoTRO?   Shame on you.  Way to lose all credibility.

By most accounts, LOTRO and AOC are currently hanging at about the same number of subscriptions, 100k. LOTRO may be technically well executed, but it's boring as hell if you're not a hardcore lorehound-- which, by the way, most gamers are not.

I believe EVE would be the correct contender for the #2 slot, would it not? Not counting F2P/asian grinders of course.

I see that but the variable changes, it won't always be the same players being portrayed as new players will get xfire, or some will simply abandon it.

We're not a buffalo herd, where we can be predictably acurate in where we are, what do...but I see what you're saying. I just don't see as a point of valid reference.
