I give so many bad reviews, since most MMO's out there, at least newer ones, are total crap!! So when I get a chance to say something positive about a game, it must be quite a game!! What can I say... Eve is a great game in many aspects! The only draw back is the server lag and trying to keep up with the people who have played since release day. Anything you want to do in this game, you are allowed to. Blow up your allies, camp areas and kill people as they come in... best part, when you PvP and kill someone, you can grab their loot. How many MMO's offer that anymore? While Eve does have its drawbacks, such as the scenery which does not improve much in the game, the lameness of mining (asteroids really should have been done differently IMO), and some imbalances with speeds and such... this is all minor when you look at how great the game mechanics are. There are tons of items if you like crafting, the GUI is simple but everything you need is simple enough to get to. The general graphics of the GUI are pretty good. Eve excels in a few areas. Corporation management (guilds), the ambient music, and a PvP system unmatched by nearly all other MMO's make this close to being a perfect game. Well, I spoke my peace. If you're looking for a new MMO to play, try this one out with their 14-day free trial. The game starts out kind of slow until you build up some skills (which are all learned real-time) but given a bit of time, the game becomes very enjoyable. |

Only thing I would add to this is if you log in and do not join a corp you will get bored after a few days of being alone. Having a corp that helps you learn the ropes, gives you minimal supplies, a lot of advice, and most importantly a goal to work for makes the game much more fun. |

Apart from that; don't expect any handouts, not from the game, other players or "quest givers". This is a game where you HAVE to put in effort (read, learn and prepare) to make it. |

You should've read his whole post. By the way, please start writing in english. And stop using stupid internet memes that have neither been funny, nor original, ever. To the op, interesting post. Nice to see something different from the usual whine and flamebaiting. |

Well, that's your loss. And since you didn't read the whole review your response completely inappropriate. Please don't try to comment on what you haven't read, it makes you look really foolish. To the OP, I pretty well agree with you assessment of EVE. I especially love the fact that what you do in this game really matters. In so many MMOs you can play for a year without ever affecting another player. In EVE, everything has an effect. Sometimes the effect is small, but it can be really dramatic too. Great post! |

Originally posted by ceforlife I don't really understand this, here. Yes, the skills train in real time so, say, if you joined right now, I will always have more skillpoints than you. But, there are no players in the game who can do everything (simply too many skills), and there is no way for you to apply all of your skillpoints to any one activity, since you can't train any skill past level 5. For example let's say I'm in a frigate with lasers. My skills in other kinds of frigates, any larger ships, other weapons, mining, industry, trade, whatever... none of those skills have any bearing on my performance in the frigate. What this means is that a new player can be equally good at piloting a frigate as an older player. The skills system doesn't mean that old players do anything better, just that they can do more things. Also, it's worth pointing out that after a point the only thing keeping you from buying ships and stuff isn't whether you have the skills for them, but whether you have the money, which, if you're clever (I'm not) is very easy to come by in large amounts. |

If you want money just get in a corp that runs L4 missions and you can make 3-9 million a mission. |

As another poster succintly puts it, maybe wow is more your style of game if you're into keeping up with the Jones' and comparing equipment sizes. And as for attempting to "keep up" with someone whos been playing for many years... I'm not really sure how that works. Perplexing. You could maybe try and catch up to him? |

All I'm saying is, someone who has been playing forever, and who can easily spend the game currency to fly the faction ships with a faction fit, with no worries to purchase another... well, it is just hard, especially in PvP, to go head on with someone like that. That is the only point I was trying to make. |
|
Of course you can't keep up with them. Nobody can keep up with things that are not real. In Pvp, simple t2 setups are the only thing you will encounter. The people who fly faction or even officer are the ones who fly bought accounts or emoragequit when their ship finally blows up. The percentage of those ships in pvp is under 0.1%, judging from some of the killboards of the top 10 alliances.. |

I see lots of 1v1 kills between frigates and sometimes with cruisers as well. What I don't see that many of is 1v1 kills between battleships. Usually it's 4 0r 5 (or even more vs 1, and the 1 in this case almost always dies alone. This is probably the reason you don't see uber expensive ships in PvP. There is no way of making sure it won't get ganked. And regardless of how much isk someone has, no one (almost no one) will throw uber ship after uber ship into the abyss when you can just as easily gang up and get kills for a whole lot less risk. |

There's 4 ways to PVP; 1) not having a clue and thinking that your lack of SP/experience can be made up for by ship size and/or cost 2) understanding that a ship is just a tool and it probably will be lost soon anyway, so fit properly but not excessively 3) knowing #2 but needing the extra "WOOOOH" of flying an expensive ship for the fun of it, enjoying the massive adrenaline rush that comes which such high stakes 4) flying with a group of highly trained, organised and structured people who know what they are doing and who made the simple calculation that if everyone uses an uber(fit) ship they will have the advantage
#1 you see a lot and they make for great pinata's #2 you see the most, since it just makes sense 3# happens at times #4 is groups like the MC of old, Burn Eden and similar.
So no, you don't nee many expensive fitted ships mostly because they either don't get too far or aren't stupid or good enough to pull it off. |

EVE is an evil place. It is unforgiving and it is harsh. Tears have been shed by losers and real hatred exists between entities and alliances (Goons and Bob for example). This isn't WoW, this isn't Hello Kitty. This is EVE.
While these sound like propaganda they are, sometimes unfortunately, very true. I have lost freighters, expensive cargo, very expensive ships and have mined endlessly to remake the money so I can buy the same ships just to lose them again. Without the death penalty (loss of ship and or pod) EVE would be nothing more than WOW in space. While WoW is a very popular game it is a mindless, boring, highly imbalanced game (let's not mention how overpowered rogues are in WoW and how stupid and ignorant Blizzard are when dealing with this imbalance). I stopped playing WoW a while back but I am still playing EVE.
EvE has its problems (major lag when 1000 people are fighting in one system) and it has, right now, extremely big connection issues which are related to their ISP's, who should all be put on one spaceship and into the Sun. CCP, as a company, care about the customer base and that is evident on the forums where there are active discussions between the developers, GM's and the fanbase. Most games do not have this and all they want to do is milk their game for what its worth. Funcom, Blizzard, Sony, NCSoft, K2 and others don't listen to the players, don't care about the things they want to see implemented and only release expansions to keep the players entertained. Many burned out, frustrated and angry WoW players come to EVE because Blizzard is a useless company.
Is EVE a game for all? Definitely not. Do the players in EVE want the same players as in WOW? Definitely not. WOW is full of immature, pubescant 40 year olds who live in their mothers basement and have no lives other than raid 25 hours a day just to get that useless epic thing that will get nerfed after a few weeks because rogues whine and whine (I have seen this happen and I hate Blizzard for this with an unbridled passion). Goons in EVE are seen as that way but even they are intelligent, regardless of the jokes. Bob aren't stupid and neither are the others whom you see posting about game changes and mechanics. For pubescant stupidity COAD is the place to troll.
I love EVE, I don't like CCP right now but that has nothing to do with the game itself. |

Joining a player corp isnt always a good idea, take into account: 1.Their requirments,I seriously advise not joining 0.0 corps/alliances (based not working in 0.0 and stationed in empire/low sec),you will end up being cannon fodder and fleet battles do tend to get tedious sometimes. 2.They have active members in your time zone. 3.They have friendly and helpfull people. Personaly, when I started EVE,first I mined and did missions, after awhile ,I decided to start my life as a pirate, some success, some misfires, made quite afew enemys out of the people ive killed but surpringly made alot more friends ,either from the ones that went boom, the ones that popped me or the ones hunting around constellation for targets just like me. Key in EVE is to be smart and witty,if someone who blew you up starts gloating, just end it "Good job, maibe il have more luck next time" ... not "omfg nub,i pwn u wit super titan alt!",same goes around, you blow someone's ship up,be polite and witty. You WILL get alot of angry hate from some people but just ignore them, and never ever give in to the sob storys: "I dont have money for a new ship" or "that was my only ship" ,reply to them "Nr.1 Rule in EVE: never fly what you cant afford to replace". |
